OverDrive hosts Bryan Hayes, Jeff O’Neill and Jennifer Hedger are joined by TSN Hockey analyst Ray Ferraro to get his take on how much longer William Nylander’s grace period for his return should be.

Typical TSN and Bryan blowing things out of proportion. Ray is the only one talking sense
@jamescolyn59605 жыл бұрын
No kidding. From the first few seconds, Bryan sounded like a moron. As with any star (possibly superstar) athlete, Nylander is getting paid to produce long term, and to be part of a strong, promising team that inevitably will have its ups and downs. To expect and to state that Nylander now "HAS TO" produce immediately, or be demoted, is just the babbling of an idiot who believes his implausible thoughts are reflections of the actual truth. They're not. They're nonsense. And anyway, who is this guy who believes he can determine a "grace period"? What a joke.
@andrewlawlor35845 жыл бұрын
@@dylan15243 Matthews was out for a month, Nylander has been out for 8 months so that is no even a comparison. In the game vs Boston Nylander was one of the better players, although the whole team played like crap so that is not say much. Yeah, the detroit game was rough but first game back. Also, note that Nylander has not been on ice for a single goal against us since he has been back. If anyone has watched our last 2 games and is seriously blaming Nylander then you're just hating to hate. Give him a few weeks and hopefully the ENTIRE TEAM can start playing well because they have all played like crap the last two games except for maybe 1 or 2 players.
@andrewlawlor35845 жыл бұрын
Dylan Watts Against Boston only 4 players didn’t allow a goal while on ice and that is Nylander, Kadri, Johansson and Kapanen. He played 16 minutes against Boston, that’s a good amount of time. He’s line was easily our best line. Regardless of who he was up against ever other line got scored on so clearly he did alright. Look I’m not saying he doesn’t need to play better, because he does, but for just his second game back he played well considering how bad our team was. Also, don’t compare 8 months to skating by yourself and sometimes with what amounts to a Sweden ahl team to being here and practicing and playing in games. It’s not even close to the same level. He will get better but give him a few weeks before you through that 6.9 mil in his face. Also, if we wanted to we could easily trade him with that contract so it’s not a big deal at all. He will either play well and make us better or we could trade him and that would make us better so either way we win 👌

They admit Matthews didn't look fully like himself yet after missing a month, while having a pre-season and started the regular season, but Nylander's grace period should be over in 2 games and 2 practices? And yeah, fantastic idea, you want to acclimatize a guy to the NHL pace and timing, get him familiar with the sets and what's expected of him so your idea is to remove him from that environment and put him in one that's slower? Some backwords thinking from Bryan and Jenn on this one, Ray probably didn't have to go so hard, but he's not wrong. I even think 2 weeks is a bit quick to expect him to be going fully. The Leafs have allowed 11 goals since Willy's gotten back, he's been on the ice for 0 of them. You guys suck lol.
@omisbelfour205 жыл бұрын
Nylander is going to be 2 months behind everyone else as far as game shape and conditioning goes. Expecting him to be good to go after 2 games is just stupid. Im glad Ray said something about that. I've already given William a 1 month grace period, that includes the 2 weeks informal team skating that players do and the two weeks of training camp before the season starts.

As a professional, I think he should have arrived in good shape. Exhibition games and practice should equal his work in Sweden and Austria. He should have seeked contact games and trained hard. Just another game or two to get his competitiveness and wind up is all he should need if he did it right while negotiating.
@Dumontjon5 жыл бұрын
He is in great shape. You cannot mimic the speed and pace of the nhl by training. You obviously know nothing about hockey if you think he should have played contact games in Sweden. He was a restricted free agent, hes not allowed to play anywhere else.

Of course Nylander isn’t going to immediately start netting points every game, he’s had a few practices and a few games, unlike at the start of the season when some players need training camp, preseason, and 15+ games before they’re in season form. Nylander is still playing better then anyone who would take his spot that’s why you don’t send him down, because he makes your team better regardless of his instant level of play coming off his offseason.
