I tested my oscillating vs a impulse sprinkler. In one hour the oscillating put down 1/8", while the impulse was a little less than 1/2". Big difference. I'm using my impulse sprinkler. 2 hours per spot. 1" of water twice a week. Temps are very hot, upper 90's all week. I have tall fescue. Good video tips Jake! Thanks. John

Watering my Scott's Pro Vista KBG was costing me $600 +/- a month. I decided green grass wasn't that cool and disconnected the sprinkler system. Green, beautiful grass is a myth in the midwest for a working man. Now I let that shit fry in the summer. I only water the one zone in front of my house. I fell for the scam of the perfect lawn. It doesn't exist.

I use a basic-ass pulsating sprinkler. 2 hours straight…3 times a week. “Water deep, not often”- according to Jake’s dad, “The Lawn Care Nut”. 🌱 Green grass comes from the fertilizer plus water. Not just watering. 🤷🏾‍♂️

@chadbailey7038 I was using a solid fertilizer program, watering using my 9 zone sprinkler system, putting down 1/2 inch at a time, twice per week. I would bump it up to 3 times a week if the temps were in the 90s all week. Putting a 1/2 inch of water down in my 9 zones would take 9 hours, so I broke it up into 2 days. Alan is not Jake's Dad. So your whole reply was a swing and a miss. You thought you were educating someone, nice try.....

KGB looks great but is insanely high maintenance due to its shallow roots. Overseed with TTTF which requires the least maintenance and water needed for any grass type next to fine fescue which fries in the sun and hates being cut.

Im in the Midwest. I keep my bluegrass 4" cut twice a week. My putting green I cut 1" every other day it's bent grass . I syringe the green alot but the other lawns I only water if I'm putting an application down or if I walk across it and my footprints don't spring up within 10 minutes, if that's the case I will give it a long deep water. Most years it only gets watered 3 times.

I have 12 zones and it takes about an hour each to drop 0.5in. Would you separate the zones into 2 watering days and get that 0.5in or do them all the same day but lower the lenght and get about 0.25in?

nice video! I wanted to add that I measured how much my water my irrigation system puts down. My lawn zones are normally off. I check how much rain we got on the internet, and then make up the difference by manually turning on the lawn zones. But what I really want to get off my chest is that whoever put in my in-ground system before I bought the house did a poor job. I have some large dry spots, and others that get watered 2x because of two zones overlap. So when your video showed one cup not filling up as much, it could very well be that whoever did your system took lessons from my installer… My sprinkler situation is so bad that I added an extra zone to the controller three weeks ago. I haven’t installed extra heads yet, am waiting until fall or winter to rent a trencher while I figure out where to re-locate the existing heads to work with the new zone I am planning. Hunter Industries has really good training materials if you want to plan your own in-ground system. In summary, do not assume your system provides even water coverage. Mine sure has heck does not. The cup test you illustrated is great for figuring out how even (or uneven) your coverage is. I used the same brand of sprinkler gauges, got them at the local Ace Hardware. Thanks for the video.

...deep and infrequent is generally a good recommendation... the exceptions include when there are significant slopes or when your soil does not perc well...😊
