talking to people who got me into Haruhi about Endless 8 made me realize there are few things i hate more than trend chasers and posers. they'd talk non-stop about wow, cool, deep, super interesting anime with the first season, but has absolutely nothing to good to say about Endless 8, even though you can clearly see the amount of work that has gone into each episode and the care they took with the all the differences. the story just wouldn't work if they didn't do it that way, yet all of my friends hated it and brushed if off and i don't even like everything about Haruhi.

From what I understand, it's a slice of life show with some supernatural-ish elements. Endless 8, the arc that's the focus of this video, features the cast caught in a time loop of the last month of summer (or, in other words, the eighth month has no end). From what I can tell it was fine (and relatively short) in the source material. Not aggravating, but not remarkable either. But for whatever reason the anime decided to not only make it eight episodes long (in a season that was roughly 15 episodes, for context) but make 6 of those episodes almost exactly the same. They didn't reuse any animation, so this wasn't a cost-cutting decision. The only variations were the second episode (where they realize they're in a time loop) and the eighth (where the mc finally figures out how to escape). Words cannot describe how aggravated the anime became, and this singular arc turned this from one of the most popular animes to something that's considered barely middle of the pack.
