I lived in Leningrad for 1 month back in July 1990 (part of a student exchange program ).Whatever the problems with prices of food now, the VARIETY and NUMBER of stores now in Russia boggles my mind. I think most people today would have nervous breakdown if they had to put up with the selection in stores and restaurants that we had back then.

same for me, as someone born in USSR, I am still amazed at the selection. Nobody would've ever thought it was possible back in 1980s

@@bennelong8451there has never been a communist country in the world. The only person to even attempt it was Castro. You don't know how to read. The definitions of words are not the same as their political usages. The United States is not a democracy, never has been. It's a republic. Both democracy and communism are exactly the same thing. In either, everyone is equal, everyone contributes to the greatest good of the whole, and everyone has an equal say ( or vote). Both the United States and the former Soviet Union used "communism" and "democracy " as political words to create elite classes while subjegating the working class. Russia now is not perfect, but Putin has done more for the country than any other leader in the entire recorded history Russia. ALL of them.
