I think Madonna is more than just a popstar. She's one the women who changed the world. She uses her platform to make a statement on a certain issues. Before, artists just put on some random songs on their album or just sing songs on their concert and that's it. But Madonna always uses a statement whenever she put on an album or a show.
@aleccopile3 жыл бұрын
I think what made her the Queen of Pop is that she changed the scene and took it to another level by bringing elements from the underground to the mainstream and the fact that she's very diverse when it comes to music and image. I've always thought of Madonna first and foremost as a recording artist, and by that I mean she's very good at realizing her visions musically, writing music and producing it with other people. Secondly, she's a dancer/performer, because what many people may not know is that she actually wanted to be a professional dancer and fell into singing by accident and only in third place comes singing. Of course, she doesn't have the vocal range of a Whitney Houston, Celine Dion or Mariah Carey, but that's not the most important thing. What she has to offer is a diversity in her voice. "Lucky Star" is a completely different vocal approach compared to "Like A Prayer" for example. I think from a technical standpoint, she peaked vocally in the "Ray Of Light" era. Also, she likes to experiment with her voice, like on "Justify My Love", "Erotica" or "Paradise" with all the spoken and whispering stuff, and that's more interesting to me, which is also something the singers I mentioned never did. Overall there are more talented singers than Madonna, but many didn't have the drive like her.
@Kevin-rg3yc3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for mentioning the vocal part, I fell if Madonna had more consistency of her technique, she could’ve been a decent vocalist bc in contested Ti popular belief she can sing and do a lot with her voice. She especially vocally did the damn thing with ray of light as well as the dick Tracy and evita soundtracks
@RyanStorey12313 жыл бұрын
I've always loved Madonna's voice. There's something warm and almost motherly about it. It's hard to explain.
@nathanieljohnson59083 жыл бұрын
I think you meant to say that Madonna doesn't have the vocal ABILITY of Whitney, Celine or Mariah. Not range. Actually, Madonna has a bigger range than Whitney and Celine.
@aleccopile3 жыл бұрын
@@nathanieljohnson5908 Well, both, actually 😀. I mean, maybe Madonna can reach lower notes than the other three, but I can't imagine her singing "I Will Always Love You," "All By Myself", or "Without You" live, so I'm not sure she has a wider vocal range overall.
@nathanieljohnson59083 жыл бұрын
@@aleccopile Actually Madonna has a 4 octave vocal range and has reached notes into the upper 6th octave LIVE. Whitney or Celine have not done this and Madonna can reach lower notes than them. Madonna not being able to sing those songs doesn't have anything to do with her vocal range. She can easily reach those notes but she doesn't have the vocal ABILITY or musicality to pull off those songs.

Things I believe Madonna did that changed pop music in the 80s 1) becoming the Queen of Music Videos, Madonna debut era with the self titled debut and like a virgin was the perfect time when MTV started and male artists like Michael Jackson and Prince becoming the face for it. There needed to be a female artist and Madonna was there, Madonna used MTV and music videos overall to change the visual medium of what a female artist look like which is embracing their feminity and sexuality and using that to take control of the latter instead of it being viewed or controlled through the male gaze. She also (along with MJ and Janet) made music videos become cultural events and make them more into short films, as well as using them to bring taboo socio-political and cultural topics to the forefront. 2) Reinvention: reinvention has been debated on rather its a sign of double standards for unrealistic expectations for female artists to continue to be popular or its a great expression of artistic growth, and I feel it’s kinda of more of the latter, to me it only becomes the former based of general public perspective and support. Madonna is the Queen of reinvention she made reinvention not just for female artists but artists overall be more of a sign of artistic growth and embrace the ability of progression and longevity of their careers with it even if it means you may not be popular with it. Madonna took a great note from the Beatles by making sure each new album was different and new and had a concept and it should be noted that in the 1980s the concept album was declining or was only exclusive to alternative rock musicians due to MTV’s over saturation for hit singles being promoted through music videos. Madonna, Prince and Janet Jackson individually in my opinion in the 80s not only brought it back to the mainstream but made concept albums more prominent in pop music, especially when it eventually blew up more in the 21st century, each album Madonna did had a concept and a purpose on telling her journey and story starting with true blue 3) Live performances: let’s keep it real before madge and Mike live performances we know it now would be non existent. Madonna told stories in her live performances and bringing the progressive, avant garde, energy that was in her music videos into her live performances but unlike other artists especially today who let the visuals (props, production, costumes, choreography) overshadow them as performers, Madonna was the center stage of her performances and the visuals were there to hence her talent as a singer, dancer and stage performer. Case in point: Madonna is the Queen of Pop and the 80s was beginning for everything. And that’s on Like A Prayer (that’s my favorite Madonna 80s album lol)

Fashion wise, Madonna single handedly changed the silhoutte for women's clothing. In the early 80s it was all about shoulder pads and oversized clothing. Madonna wore figure revealing outfits as she was getting into fitness in the mid 80s after the Virgin Tour era and wanted to show off her new body as evident in the True Blue era's 1950s glamor. She was a trendsetter in many ways. Not forgetting the hairstyles and minimal makeup. She made the red lipstick a major statement in the mid to late 80s.

Madonna has been named as the most influential female artist of all time by various media outlets. While artists like Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, Mariah, Celine Dion are known for their voices/songs, Madonna trascended to be a pop culture icon that went beyond the music. Her business strategy and reinvention has been followed by a lot artists from Britney Spears to Ariana Grande. Controversy has always been her friend and that's the reason why press stopped talking about her cause they know she wouldn't be hurt. Personally, I like her cause she worked hard, she wasn't part of a musical family (MJ, Janet, Whitney), didn't marry a music mogul (mariah, celine), part of a girlband/duo (aretha, diana ross, cher) and worked with producers on her debut that were all underground producers who are unknown at the time; Not saying other ladies didnt work hard tho but she's always beeb a businesswoman and knew how to take risks. With around 335- 400 est. million records sales (if certifications are updated) she's still the best selling artist of all time

Best selling female artist of all time , yes the Beatles and Michael Jackson sold more in different lanes but again "female". She doesn't even have the strongest voice or sexiest woman alive BUT she still pulled off a fresh, pop and sound and she was able to sing. Whitney had the best vocals but entertainment icon status, sound and evolution, activism and reaching to all types of people and taking risks; she won people over. Sold out all her tours and shows, albums, a number of books, clothing line in 1985. She reached to movies too but film honestly wasn't her thing . Her magical stage presence, dance music, being unpredictable and interesting; doors opened for most pop stars because of her. Huge LGBT activist. HIV/AIDS activist, speaks out on bigotry and racism, Like a Prayer video was about racism so she sang and looked good in the 80s but so much more going on that Janet or Cyndi didn't have which they are great. Best band, Beatles. Vocalist, Whitney. Dancer, singer and #1 album of all time; Michael Jackson. Most successful female artist and queen of pop; Madonna. I'll add as a solo male, Elvis too. Almost forgot. I'm in Memphis not far from where he lived but I'm in my 20s, I never saw him but on screen and he was hot. So was Whitney, MJ, Prince, and Madonna had her own look I wouldn't call sexy but she always had a beautiful smile and some of the most beautiful eyes.

Great video! Madonna's 80s era is always a great thing to look back on, to see how many performers she's inspired by speaking her truth. Have you ever thought of covering pop superstars from other countries like Japan? Namie Amuro dominating the 90s or when Hikaru Utada and Ayumi Hamasaki controlled the j-pop scene that led to Hamasaki's label forcing her to release a greatest hits A BEST the same week as Utada's second album Distance and the press went full force with them as rivals which lead to nearly 3 million sales for both albums in the first week of release?
