Speaking as a Historian who had dabbled in Martial Arts & Combatives, Research and Analysis clearly shows that since it's founding the USMC has sort out the means to build one of the most comprehensive close combat programs in the world, until the Post-War era only the USMC, Royal Marines, French Foreign Legion and selected Elite Regiments of the French & British Armies have done that on any wide scale institutional basis for Military Services (the Red Army almost got there with Sambo before the War but just missed out wide scale implementation, and is why post war they where the leaders of the new crop), others have attempted but until after WWII only a select few have succeeded and the USMC is one of them.

I'm glad that you kept everything within MCMAP as part of that style instead of trying to piece them out to give him credit for more styles. Just from Castle's timeline in the Netflix shows, he really could *only* know MCMAP and weapons training. We have no indication he did any sort of particular training before he went into the military, and he tried to live a peaceful life after the military (aside from a couple murder rampages), so there's no opportunity or reason for him to learn any other specific style.

I really like all the research that goes into your videos. Spoke to a retired marine a few years back- in his hey day, they actually sent him and his buddies out to other countries to be trained on top of what they taught him- they sent him to Japan to learn Aikido from the most skilled and experienced people they could find. I know Aikido has been shamed by Steven Seagall, but this guy I met was the real deal- he has accumulated a number of wear and tear injuries over the years of training and practice - they really invested a lot in training the marines. Even old and worn, I wouldn't mess with that man. MAY THE PUSH KICK LIVE FOREVER HAHAHA

One thing I know you missed is that we're (Marines) pushed to exhaustion and then made to repeat what we've learned in an attempt to make the response automatic, reducing the reaction time. Whether or not it really was an effective method or not depends on the individual Marine. Some of us thought it was silly, some of us treated it as important. How actually practical it was depends a lot on the individuals ability, skill, and attentiveness to the training. I loved to grapple and we'd grapple every Friday to see who'd close shop. I never had too close unless I went up against our MCMAP instructor who was exceptionally skilled, light years beyond my simple enthusiasm for it could handle.

With the release of a new Devil may cry game, it got me thinking that the main characters are perfect for your series ( well, at least Virgil) Virgil constantly uses iaido sword strikes mixed with traditional kendo/ kenjustsu. And his integration of hand to hand combat would give you some fun martial arts additions. Dante pretty much just jumps around using cool movies to humiliate people but his swordsmanship displays broadsword fencing and action shooting , and Nero is a bit in between, with a mix of broadsword fencing, some kendo, a lot of gun play mixed with a strong integration of hand to hand combat. This is a serious that will be a great breeding ground for future videos.

Also being that the boys often deal with supernatural entities, where a single touch could be deadly they probably know many evasion and dodging techniques. With their knife work its easy to see that its based highly on the military. And from the actual actors, we know that karate is a huge influence. Going into guns and firearms they obviously have tactical training and experience, with combat shooting as a huge component.

I wonder if there is a martial arts style that is all about countering every other martial arts. There are alot of kicks and holds that can easily be broken or countered if known. The push kick can be easily read and easily countered. You can try going under the kick, grabbing the kick/leg and lifting up. Sweep the other leg. And you have you opponent on the ground. If you lock the knee, you can hyperextend the knee or even break it if you are strong enough. If someone grabs you neck. Instead of hitting down on the elbow, hit up on it. You need alot more effort to hit up on it but if done correctly, can do more damage that hitting down. Or just grad the wrist and twist. Or just kick to the knee and break it or just kick to the balls if a guy. So many way of getting out of that neck grab.
@Godzillarex5 жыл бұрын
Sure, both Judo and Jiu Jitsu are heavily based on countering attacks and subduing the opponent with grappling techniques.

@ClintDecker1485 жыл бұрын
Some technicalities; Marsoc types are the only guys that will have extensive hand-to-hand training, cuz they’re one of the groups you send to “grab and bag” terrorists. They’ll be trained in particular to restrain their targets. Regular marine grunts will spend considerably less time-they’re there to take buildings and shoot things. If they have to use their hands, something went wrong. From what an ex-marine told me, their MCMAP grappling techniques are kinda awkward. Another thing to keep in mind is that they aren’t focused on becoming martial arts experts- the point of programs like MCMAP is to give them some basics Incase they’re captured or manage to loose control of their weapon, teach them aggression, and teach them distancing methods so they have room to shoot or stab the guy, and maybe some restraining stuff if you’re doing more police-like patrols. If you’re MARSOC, it’s more focused on disarming targets and more or less literally bending them to your will. Its designed for soldiers with the objective or legal permission of killing/capturing people, including the assumption that if you get into a hand-to-situation, your buddies are right behind you. Frank Castle likes to lone wolf, so he would have needed to make modifications for rapidly engaging multiple attackers.

One of the guys at my Krav Maga dojo who served in the Marine Corps told me the MCMAP curriculum is almost identical to the Krav Maga curriculum as taught to us.

Very cool! They are both CQC systems, so it makes sense that there would be plenty of overlap.

I can appreciate that despite the fact that many of Frank's moves are SIMILAR to moves in other martial arts, you didn't actually credit him with knowing them. Not everyone who can throw a jab is a boxer and so forth. I've enjoyed all of your videos so far. How about V for Vendetta next?

I most certainly will. I know you must get swamped with requests, but can’t help but think you’d have a blast with the Netflix take on Bullseye... but then again, I don’t know if ‘darts’ counts as a fighting style.

I'm unsure if they teach MCMAP outside of the Marine Corps program, but Krav Maga and Systema are both CQC systems that are taught to civilians.

The various moves used in Street Fighter from characters like Ryu(Matrial Arts), Ken(Martial Arts), Zangeif(Wrestling) among others. Well, at least the moves that don't blatantly defy the laws of physics XD

Bruce Lee developed Jeet Kune Do as an open art using whatever techniques or even street fighting. Seems the IDF & the Marines have adapted from the art. The last time I recall this used was in a fighting video game called Eternal Champions with a character called Midnight who in the lore of the game was alive in the 60s taking training in the style.
