I think it depends on the school. Once I started high school parents didn't have to call unless it was a long absence (3+ days). If it was just one day the students were expected to email their teachers to explain why they weren't there and to ask what material was being covered so they can prepare for next class.

Murdering comes with the territory - it’s a vampire show. Damon is the only one acting like a legitimate vampire that’s been alive for hundreds of years, seeing people die from age makes lives not that important (especially with humanity being slightly off)

I mean I would agree if we were only talking about humans. He killed his brothers best friend who is also a vampire that’s actually one of his peers and not a food source. Even humans that he forms relationships with as peers he treats as disposable. Most humans don’t even call animals by name if they know they’re going to be food. If he lived amongst only vampires and only experienced humans as food I would get it but there is something sinister and twisted about still having enough emotions to connect with people and build relationships with them but still being able to murder them without blinking vampire or not. That’s the point of his character though he is meant to be dark and twisted ****spoilers* like what he did to Enzo and the fact that he has beef with lots of people because he’s a messed up person. He literally killed Jeremy while he was in love with Elena. His whole thing is redemption so yes at the time being he is supposed to be an effed up individual even as a vampire.

My ship preferences really have more to do with how much I enjoy the dynamic of two characters together on screen and what entertaining or interesting sides they bring out of each other, rather than which relationship would necessairily work out better irl. A somewhat slow burn is also important to me for TV-show romances. For those reasons I personally always prefered both Stefan and Elena with other people than each other.

Gina Torres, who played the bartender, starred in the greatest show to ever be canceled too soon. Firefly is a must watch show! I hated that Damon killed her. She did have a right to kill him in the weird messed up supernatural world grey morals. He didn’t let Elena know that he killsd her though, so he earned trust points. She doesn't realize she got her new witch friend killed by fighting for his life. Alaric was proven not a vampire because of his ring. They had revealed his wife's fate was unknown by him and cops. It is clear he has a theory involving Damon though. Damon is hard to hate, but he tries so hard to make you.

Man, I haven't watched season 1 of TVD in years, but as I've been following along with your reactions, I forgot just how shady Stefan is in the beginning. Everyone talks about how Damon's always plotting, especially in this season, but Stefan's weird and manipulative too. I mean he mostly has good intentions, but it's really weird to find out all this information about/stalk a teenage girl, seduce her, and then continue to keep secrets, only admitting to them once you're caught. Especially because Elena is so vulnerable to that manipulation, as a naive teen alone, but also as a kid who's grieving her parents. It's pretty shitty of him. Rewatching this at age 30 makes it a bit hard to watch actually.

I can show you every single scene from the beginning that Stefan was using different type of manipulation on Elena including: gaslighting, guilty tripping, playing the blame game, deflection, … . Stefan is written to be a master manipulator because of his psychological background and I don’t want to get in to because of the Spoilers, he’s not only manipulating the characters in the show and he even manipulates the audience by the body language he uses but Stelena fans refuse to accept this truth about Stefan character.

It's not mentioned at all but I was thinking that her tolerance for alcohol could have been because he fed her some of his blood to heal her when she collapsed after the accident. Could be why he took her with him to watch over her and ensure that his blood was out of her system before they returned to Mystic Falls to prevent anyone from killing her and her becoming a vampire and needing to feed. Just a theory. As for Damon killing Bree, she set him up to be killed and would have tried again had he not done it. He didn't go there intending to kill her. And yep, Stefan is creepy stalker dude.
