Always love the Huckleberry shakes at Zip's! Not sure if you saw the Auto Vue Drive-in theater as you were leaving Colville and heading towards Kettle Falls. The original was ruined in a storm a few years back but they thankfully re-built it. I've stayed in Chewelah as well - a nice little place.

You were getting close to my neck of the woods. Colville is 77 miles north of me (near Spokane WA). You missed filming the big letter "C" on the mountain side near the round-a-bout in Colville. Also Chewelah is pronounced "Chew - we - la". I've only lived here 4 years & still learning names. There's a lot of native-American names up here. Washington is a beautiful area especially East of the Cascades. You should have stopped at Zip's...great burgers...never heard of it till I moved here. As for as fuel goes, when ever I'm in Idaho (30-40 miles away) I top off my tank...always cheaper there. Can't wait for the next "talk soon"!

Wow! Talk about memories! I was born in Newport WA in 1961. Right there at the start, right before you go over the bridge (I remember it as an old, narrow steel girder one) over the Pend Oreille River, was a swimming spot where I nearly drowned when I was about 4 years old. We lived a block down the street from where the route goes to Spokane to your left or straight to Usk, Cuisick and Metaline Falls to the North. BTW, it's pronounced CALL-ville. And it's cha-we-la. Father was a forester for the Northern Pacific Railroad when we lived there. Great, beautiful country. Thanks for sharing with us.

Yuk Donald's is a place where the food can upset your stomach and have it growling hungry a half hour later. Good for when you're bound up too...the architecture of Chewelah, reminds me of living in Butte, Mt. The houses and buildings, and being next to the street. Built for snow, warmth, and a basement so you don't need air conditioning in the summer.
