I miss being able to go high impact like this. I injured my spine years ago and had to stop going for body-jarring power/speed. It was always so much fun. But to be fair, injury taught me a lot in martial arts that I'd have neglected. My favorite kick looks like an outside-to-inside crescent kick at the start. You leap forward and throw the kick at a range so close that your calf instead of your heel will hit the target. Then you turn your leg and bend your knee in midair, like a butterfly stretch. It's basically a right hook around your target's guard, but thrown with your heel instead of your fist. I would practice by jumping into an exterior corner and pushing off the wall with my kicking foot to spin back around, since landing one of these against a sparring partner might not feel too good. Nobody could ever block one of these in practice, ever. These days I don't even kick at all. Thighs/knees/shins to calves/thighs mostly, and more to bear weight or take balance away than do damage. It's so different from the flashy kicking I did as a youth.

I classify Kukki TKD as having 10 Basic Kicks (all performed using the rear leg) along with Common and Uncommon Kick Modifiers. 1) Front Kick / Ap Chagi / 앞 차기 2) Turning Kick / Dollyeo Chagi / 돌려 차기 (aka Roundhouse Kick) 3) Side Kick / Yeop Chagi / 옆 차기 4) Back Kick / Dwi Chagi / 뒤 차기 (not the same as Back Turning Side Kick) 5) Axe Kick / Naeryeo Chagi / 내려 차기 6) (Whipping) Hook Kick / Huryeo Chagi / 후려 차기 7) (Scorpion) Hook Kick / Nakka Chagi / 낚아 차기 8) Twisting Kick / Biteureo Chagi / 비틀어 차기 9) Inward Crescent Kick / An Chagi / 안 차기 10) Outward Crescent Kick / Bakkat Chagi / 바깥 차기 From here, each of the Basic Kicks (done using the rear foot) may have one or more common or uncommon modifiers applied to them. Here are some examples: Front Foot Kick / Ap Bal Chagi / 앞 발 차기 - The front foot kicks while the anchor foot does not travel. Example: Front Foot Front Kick / Ap Bal Ap Chagi Fast Kick / Ppaleun Bal Chagi / 빠른 발 차기 - The front foot kicks after the anchor foot travels forward. Travel → Chamber → Kick Example: Fast Side Kick / Ppaleun Bal Yeop Chagi Cut Kick / Keoteu Chagi / 커트 차기 - The front foot kicks while the anchor foot travels forward. Naturally a Yeop Chagi in WT competition. Chamber → Travel → Kick Example: Cut Turn Kick / Keoteu Dollyeo Chagi Tornado Kick / Dolgae Chagi / 돌개 차기 - A 360° back turning kick, with the first leg coming around to serve as a feint, impedance, or distance tool before the other foot delivers a kick. Naturally a Dollyeo Chagi, but can be applied to other kicks. Example: Tornado Axe Kick / Dolgae Naeryeo Chagi etc.

When you are done learning these... try some Contemporary Wushu kicks. Like the horizontal Butterfly Kicks, or something like the running, jumping, reverse spinning crescent kick. Those dudes can reach some insane Vertical Heights. One of my favorite Demos, is a Shaolin Front Fall, where you start out standing vertical, and allow yourself to fall forwards, flat on your chest. I used to do it over concrete. Some people land on their hands.. but I kept my fists balled, and landed on my arms that were in front of my chest. Shaolin "Head Rolls" are fun too.

TKD kicks are very useful to know. My first BB was in Chung Do Kwan from a first-generation in the US Korean man. He was very tough, but then he learned boxing in Japan. TKD now, is far from what it was back in the day at most schools. Sport TKD is the worst of all. ITF can be decent at some schools. Even though TKD means the foot hand way, most schools seem to forget about the use of the hands or minimize their functionality. In reality, to be a real fighter, hand techniques should be used way more than kicks. Perhaps I missed it, but where was the side kick?
@volentipugnum4045
@volentipugnum4045 Жыл бұрын
One thing I will say about sport TKD and "mall karate" style schools is they are still ok for some basic training. The thing for people to do is take it serious and practice hard at home or in private sessions at the Dojang.

@@Docinaplane I learned the "question mark kick" from one of the hokiest schools. They were giving out black belts to anyone that would pay the monthly fee. However, I asked one of the Korean instructors for private lessons and she made me stand sideways against a wall and throw a full front snap kick, but then in mid strike roll it over into a roundhouse kick. It took a long time but it's a beautiful kick to know.

To anyone that wants to learn the "Question Mark Kick" stand sideways against a wall. Throw a fast snapping front kick. Do this a few times and then start turning your kick over and making into a roundhouse kick. The reason for standing against a wall is because you want to learn to keep the kick coming straight up, looking like front kick but at the last second roll it over into a roundhouse.

Already the first technique: rubbish! When doing frontsnap kick you hit with the ball of the foot! Because the target is not towards the ceiling, the target is right in front of you and you want your energy to go forward, not upward. Trying to kick somebody in the stomach like in the video will only get your foot injured. Also with the other techniques: why making the foot long? The foot is much more prone to injury when kicking like that. This is not as prominent when kicking pads. But kicking an oponents body? Than you will feel the difference. Plus you can kick much harder and do much more damage to the target when hitting with the ball of the foot. But aside from that: a good teacher.
@johndough8115
@johndough8115 Жыл бұрын
The front snap isnt for the Abdomen. Its a Groin kick. As for so called foot injuries... that is why you do "Conditioning" training, to toughen up the skin, tissues, and bone density. Far too many people train with a mere heavy bag... but that alone, is not going to be sufficient for proper conditioning.
@johndough8115
@johndough8115 Жыл бұрын
Additionally... while the ball isnt bad... I personally prefer to use a Toe-Stabbing kick. That said, you need a lot of specialized training + conditioning, to get a very strong toe impact, without damaging / breaking your toe. The benefits, are a much longer reach. As well as a more precise and Concentrated level of damage.
@ralfhtg1056
