One crucial thing! When you continuesly open and close the screen (plastic) is running, so it's warm. Even the material (plastic) warms itself by that expanding middle. The cold one, like you would open it every once a while would behave differently. You know, cold plastic breaks when bending. That's why the screen failures are visible only over time.

I think the number of folds doesn't matter that much. It's when it stays folded for long times that plastic is under continuous stress. Add this to your theory: cold screen that stayed folded for many hours will suffer great stress during opening. Does it make sense? 🤔

In the other hand, engineers designing that phone knew that, too. So maybe it is designed to warm a little bit (running small, but significant enough current would suffice, i think), just to keep temperature right.

had mine since august, never dropped or damaged. wokeup yesterday to the crease completely shattered and phone unusable. hours later having left it on my table, a massive air bubble and seperation of screen happened. my phone did not have debris or anything in it while closed and i dont open and close my phone for hours on end, most of the time i use what options i have on the little screen.

Wlasnie sie wyleczylem z foldables, a zastanawialem sie nad Fold 5. Teraz bez szans, zebym to kupil, zostaje przy S22 Ultra... First hand information - today in the morning my wife's Z Flip 3 cracked along the crease. Now something like half of the screen overall is black, half of it (the bottom one) is still touch-sensitive, the upper one is not. The phone is 15 months old... One big piece of s**t. Luckily, it is still on warranty but it seems that Samsung has produced a really crap thing. This means that for a while I give up as far as buying a foldable is concerned while I was actually looking into Z Fold 5. Now there is no chance I will go for it, I'll keep my S22 Ultra...

Mine started to a rainbow line at the centre where it folds. Worst thing is, not even using it that much cus i have my ip13promax as my main phone. So i was surprise to see the damage at the curving screen area. Never again.

Z tego co czytałem duzo zgłoszeń jest po zimie. Fajnym testem byłoby też mrożenie i chlodzenie telefonu podczas otwierania np. klimatyzatorem. Pokojowe napewno da sie ustawic na konkretną godzinę i np zmieniać grzanie na chlodzenie co 40 minut. Wydaje mi sie ze to są te warunki których samsung czy motorola nie bierze pod uwage. Jaka temperatura jest wskazana w gwarancji jako ta w ktorej mozna telefon używać?

Też się nad tym zastanawiałem. Temperatura ma ogromny wpływ na elastyczność materiału i przy niskiej temperaturze łatwiej jest dany materiał uszkodzić. Jednak pojawia się jedno ale. Smartfon cały czas działa i wytwarza jakieś tam ciepło. Wiadomo, podczas intensywnej pracy nagrzewa się bardziej, podczas czuwania mniej, ale czy zimą takie urządzenie może osiągnąć na tyle niską temperaturę żeby miało to istotny wpływ na elastyczność ekranu. Wydaje mi się że takich smartfonów nie zostawia się na zewnątrz, nosimy je raczej w kieszeni czy torebce. Nie mogę sobie przypomnieć czy kiedykolwiek mój smartfon narażony był na bardzo niską temperaturę. Ale i tak warto wziąć pod uwagę ten czynnik i to sprawdzić.

@@DuDzio1995r ja sobie wyobrażam taką sytuację że stoimy i czekamy na autobus wtedy 4 razy siegamy po telefon żeby sprawdzić tylko godzine odjazdu autobusu, odpisujemy na 4 wiadomości, mlodsi to i jakieś zdjecie przystanku zrobią :D wtedy smartfon sie mocno wyziębia. Wkladamy go do kieszeni, tam sie zagrzewa i po 2 minutach znowu sprawdzamy. Nie koniecznie na przystanku ale np idac spacerkiem przez miasto z nawigacją w ręku. Telefon raczej nie podgrzeje wierzchniej warstwy ekranu, a ta folia sie może skurczyć. Ostatnio zginąłem sobie takiego uszkodzonego folda i myślę ze temperatura może miec na niego bardzo duzy wplyw a nawet zwykle śmietki bawelniane z kieszeni jeansów:)

Samsung have done a new Extreme Temperature test on these folding screens it's quite surprising! The fold 5 looses 25% durability when it's exposed to heat and 80% at colder temps

What if the number of folds is not an issue but how much time phone stays folded? I've had my Flip 3 for last 9 months and the screen protector is very visibly cracked and unpleasant under the finger. Screen seems to be ok. I am not using the phone so much so it stays closed for longer.

@@qbo12 I do! Cool factor is high, the folding is actually useful at times and cover screen can be fun to use! Phone is capable, fast, responsive and has very bright display. Just know what you're getting into: thicc boy in your pocket ;) small battery (2-3 charges a day), more fingerprints on screen, crease and potential cracking of screen protector (like it happened to many people, me included). And realistically you need two hands to do anything (can't really pull it out of pocket, unlock, text and put back with one hand, for example in shops). Opening with one hand is possible but rather cumbersome and phone might slip (especially without case!) And fall... But it's a good phone 😎

Please Try it in cold conditions now as the new Samsung experiment for excessive temperatures has failed the devices! The fold 5 was tested at 60c and lost 25% durability and -1 lost 80% durability to the screen so never open it in winter outdoors basically!

It's your luck of the draw with these fold and flips some folds and fold 2,3 still going today whare as the fold 4 and 5 are all splitting! They made the new screen on the fold 5 25% more harder and made a U shape curve in the fold screen to accommodate the full close! Tells you on official Samsung extreme temperature tests site data about what they done to the screens making the crease more of a crease to get the full closed fold! Something I never knew! They explained how they created a U shaped channel for the screen to seat into when fully closed so we will keep seeing bad creases in next gen folds n flips if they are doing this!

Mój strzelił po 6 miesiącach użytkowania. Po kontakcie z osobami, które miały identyczny problem wychodzi na to, że tylko część egzemplarzy dostępnych na rynku miewa takie problemy. Szansa na to, że wam się trafi felerna sztuka do testów jest raczej niska. Niestety Ci, którzy jednak doświadczyli pęknięcia wzdłuż zgięcia często mają niemałe przygody z serwisem. Zaznaczam, że tymi telefonami nie trzeba rzucać na lewo i prawo, aby doszło do takiego uszkodzenia. W moim przypadku wystarczyło zwyczajnie otworzyć telefon z rana w celu wyłączenia budzika. Było słychać wyraźny trzask pękającego UTG, a następnie poszła krecha załatwiając wyświetlacz :/

Motorola testing device ( 3rd party test) looks too fast. If you bend strip of copper fast he break, doing this slow you can make more moves. Fast bending produce temperature, accidental bending also, but material can cool when it stops moving. Testing device must precisely balance between simulate human use style, time ( nobody wait 5 years to see results) and too fast moves ( to not heat elastic parts inside what prevents break)
