This is a video to address some very common questions I get - What's the lowest wattage it can run at? Does it run on cloudy days? Does it need to be reset after it shuts down due to low power? I address all of these questions in this video.

I've been looking at this playlist and I started at your 1 year video for the EG4. I'm doing a "skoolie" build and I think this would be a fantastic solution to my cooling needs over a traditional mini split. I hope you see this because I would love your input on what you would say the Minimum amount of Wattage would recommend dedicating to the EG4. I'm going to dedicate a percentage of my panels for the EG4 then the rest for my battery bank. love your vids you've got a new loyal subscriber now!

I can't afford one right now, but this explanation is what makes me want to buy one, and I will soon. I am off grid in Jamaica and have a little window unit that does OK with the setup I have, but it does require a lot of manual adjustments for me. I will wait until the SOC is at 100%, usually around 11am, then turn it on. Typically when the day is sunny I can go until 4-5PM and still be 100%, then I either turn it off or make up my mind to run on battery into the night. I think I'll get this EG4 mini split and have it run independent of the system I have now, even if I have to get it's own battery, just so I really can run it without any concern about it pulling from my current setup. A big bonus is how low watts it will run at, in sunny Jamaica I see no problem using this unit.

Thank you for this wonderful video on the EG4 Hybrid A/C. I purchased the 12000 BTU but have not set it up yet. Still need to purchase the solar panels. Which is my question. I had listened to another youtuber introduce this almost two years ago and he stated that he had x4 400 watt solar panels and that you would need at least that much to run it during the day with no problem. Would you say that is about correct with your experience where you are? The math equation when calculating solar and the technical jargon are not my specialty. You demonstrated that 140 watts coming in would be the bare minimum? How does that translate to what I would need in regards to solar panels? The x4 400 watt minimum? Thanks again.
@SmitHVAC.
@SmitHVAC. 4 ай бұрын
4 x 400w is the perfect number for best efficiency, you can get away with less but most people like to connect the maximum allowable solar so it can run better in poor sun conditions

There has been little to NO power savings/efficiency gains for 99.5 percent of all window units or small ac systems since the 1940's How can that be? They say theres 25 percent savings, but no, btu per watt is just about the same, or 1-200 watts less when running the full load of a say 15000btu window or mini split unit (which you can state, they work exactly the same. Efficeincy differences are ONLY from heat radiated inside of the physical metal parts and seals and insulation from the outside of the window unit) What window units of decent cooling capacity draw A reasonable 700-800 watts??? These compressors get hot as hell, they should not be exposed to heat because the copper windings will increase resistance, lower efficency, then get hot again and lower efficeincy again because of getting hot. There are hot gasses in the compressor, yes, from the heat cycle of the refrigerant. But the motor should be ambient. Not 150c. The fans too on the units are pigs, the window units expecially. Mini splits might have good to very good efficeincy, if they are dc fans but then they need some stupid, gonna burn out in 10 yr controller) I know these controllers are cheap and built to break. The engineering departments add complexity unessesary and then they break because one crappy part. And then theyre obsolete and non repairable because its an exclusive part or the part is not accessible to, ort the boards straight up fail and take out all the rest of the parts inline so , basically i can prove that they are junk AND I will DEFUND. THe fans should not get hot either, low efficeincy run of the mill units have crappy syncrohnous ac motors with the capacitors that always fail, why do they heat up, and heat up again too from being hot. Copper is only efficeinty in a motor IF IT SAYS COOL!!! THe things use 1200 watts 15k units will mostly all at best take 1200 watts. The things could be using 50 watts for the fan and 700 watts for the compressor. THis means, cop of 5 or 6 or more, Theoretically its like ten, BUT why are they barely scarping by with 3?>?? It should be called energy efficient only if the motors arent running BOILING HOT 100c 150c they are terrible. They are the worst. 1940s, they had the same shit. GOD DAMN!!!1

People make those with window AC’s, they trick the temp sensor so it runs constantly, getting the room colder than designed. Thank you so much for this video. Been watching some videos about combo/solar mini splits and I wondered how little of solar panel it would be possible to get by on for some occasional solar cooling and heating. So this means you could run this off 4 cheap 100W panels from Harbor Freight or Amazon then, huh? Can you please repeat this video in the winter and see approximately how many minimum watts are needed to heat? Thanks! I’m wondering/hoping that I can some day out 4 100W panels on the roof of a 7x7 resin shed to power one of these mini splits on solar only for portions of days. Wish they made a 9k BTU version that would use even less power to make this even more likely to be possible for me.

9k most efficient, decreasing efficiency the higher you go, and adding extra heads decreases efficiency of a unit. I wonder if there are there are greater losses running two units over one with two heads. With two separate smaller units you get redundancy, ease of installation and repair. Adding more complexity to a single unit and cost of recharging (every 5 years recommended) because very high skill level required of tech who may not have a lot of experience working on a manifold. Just try to find a tech willing to work on your unusual Chinese brand, hybrid unit, custom install, unwarranteed DIY installation without having to trade your firstborn or get on the down-low with the Mayor to get: insurance, local permits, inspection certs and warranty requirements. With two smaller units with single heads there are configuration advantages through simplicity of installation and externalities relating to DIY install. Also, you could turn off one at night. Or only run both when you're on AC. But don't listen to me I eat meat.
