MDMA, the active ingredient in the party drug ecstasy, is being touted as a game-changing treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder. It is being trialled in America-and for one army veteran the drug has been a life-saver.

In America around 22 military veterans kill themselves every day. John served in Iraq during the Second Gulf War. His experiences left him with post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. The mental suffering has been so great but he was suicidal for eight years.
An estimated eight million Americans suffer with PTSD and war veterans are only a fraction of this number. It's a public health disaster costing billions of dollars to treat. There are treatments available but the drugs prescribed are only successful in 20% of cases. For those who don't respond to the available treatment there may be an alternative - MDMA - the active ingredient in the party drug ecstasy is being touted as a miracle cure for PTSD.
The FDA has labeled MDMA a breakthrough treatment and tests of the drug show that it's highly effective. In a recent study over 60% of patients no longer met the clinical criteria for PTSD after the MDMA treatment. For John, conventional treatments hadn't worked. He saw the trial as his last hope. For John the treatment was a revelation.
MDMA was used in psychotherapy in the 1970s but became popular as a party drug in the 1980s and was made illegal. It wasn't until the early 2000s that the drug began scientific testing in America to treat PTSD. Testing is now at the final stage of FDA approval, where around three hundred subjects will participate. If this is successful then the drug could become a medicine.
Rick Doblin has been at the forefront of this research since the 1980s. An estimated 20% of former military personnel suffer with PTSD in America alone. The Department of Veteran Affairs spends about 400 million dollars annually on treating PTSD and other mental health conditions. When you take MDMA it floods the brain with hormones and neurotransmitters that evoke feelings of trust and well-being. Researchers say this allows patients to re-examine traumatic memories.
Like any drug MDMA has side effects and there's a moderate risk of addiction, but it is less harmful than alcohol or tobacco. A small nonprofit is funding the trial as MDMA is not patentable - so big pharmaceutical companies have steered clear of the treatment as it will not make them money. For sufferers of PTSD this new treatment could be a lifesaver.

As a war veteran who is happily married and is a manager in the tech industry, I can say that mdma transformed my life. It's like your brain is a big mush of tangled hair and mdma is the comb that de-tangles all of the knots in your brain. It's like 100 therapy session mashed into one. The key point is that it makes you intensely sensitive but also detached at the same time. This enables you to be honest with yourself in a way that is impossible without it. The reason we can't be honest with our selves is because the truth is painful, many folds times more if you have ptsd. In my 33 years I have taken it 3 times because I am in such awe of it. Once every few years. There is no point in doing it often, as there isn't so much to process in the consecutive months.

Id be willing to bet most of the worlds illnesses.. Most health disorders that are not genetic can be cured through diet and healthy lifestyle alone.. There is also tons of plants and herbs that cannot be patented that have massive potential such as Turkey Tail mushrooms and Cannabis for treatment of cancer.. but like they said it doesn't make money cause its not patentable.. For Profit healthcare removes the entire motive for providing health care in the first place. To genuinely and compassionately heal, and save the lives of all humans and when you can only do that for a profit we have failed at our mission before we even begin.

There was a study about what music goes well with MDMA and they found out EDM was a great for it since your heart rate goes up when you're rolling and the bpm in EDM get in sync. If you ask me what type of EDM you should listen to, I would tell you Trance; it is great match for it, since you'll experience melodic, euphoric, emotional, & uplifting sounds that no other electronic music can compete with. Listen to some quality Trance (not _hard_ Trance) while on MDMA, close your eyes, and you'll be in for a _wild_ ride. :-)

So, PTSD isn't correlated to the intensity of armed conflicts. Compare Iraq and Afghanistan to WW1, WW2, Korea and Vietnam. For the most part, Afghanistan and Iraq were rather one-sided conflicts, with very few American casualties. Yet still, with absolute advantage in firepower, training, intelligence, air superiority and unrivaled logistical support, soldiers get PTSD just the same, even when they are the ones shooting others up.

@@jiggie2429 there's still drugs in Australia. Black market, mdma and meth see almsot the same chemical and react very similar in the brain. There are slight differences xtc is more detached from fear you don't have inhibitions about people. But it's still a methamphetamine. But people forget ww2 era doctor gave prescription methamphetamine same stuff on the street for depression. It's still prescribed today as desoxyn for add and weight loss. Amphetamines like Adderall and vysnse simisr but not as strong. Ectssy makes me feel more warm all over then meth. But honestly it's hard to be in s bad mood on any kind of speed. Sex gives you 200 percent dopamine in the brain. Cocaine 400 percent methamphetamines 40,000 times spikr. This is why xtc meth amphetamines make you feel amazing and get up and clean things paying attention to ever last detail. There's also a difference between drug use and wbuse. Most of what you see on tv is bull like most extreme cases. Most people use meth a few times a day in small doses. $100 150 a week. Meth mouth is from poor hygiene and long periods of dry moith. Saliva protectd you'd teeth and obviously brushing. I've only ever seen a couple users ever have fucked up teeth. Most users who keep hygiene and drinking fluids there teeth are not any different then anyone else's. You'd never be. Shle to tell. Smoking or snorting it can be hid for a long time. The vspor is pretty much odorless. When I use to use I could smoke while I ran water for a shower and it was never smelt by my wife or anyone. It has a slight smell if your bowl is dirty but nothing that would make you think anything. My wife had no idea I used my pupils rarely got huge or pinpoint. A co worker could tell. But my bosses couldn't my parents couldn't my wife couldn't. No one know I used for years except the people in our circle that did it at work. You still eat and sleep. makes you horny as all get out. There are many users for speeds out there. Me and my wife use to take xtc occasionally and it always helped us. It was always good for us. A big difference is with xtc. You more self reflect on yourself and the experience last for s long time afterwards. It can help you find what you need to do. Its s risk buying on black. Market but I guarantee Australias party scene is full of xtc and speed. If sterokds make it through customs for Australia domestic delivery then other drugs do as well. People don't realzise most drugs are run through the post offices. millions of pieces s day customs can't open even 1% of them

Be very careful with the drugs, if you are seriously considering this, please do it with lots of professional support and with emergency medical access if something goes wrong. For some, these types of therapies for PTSD and even drug/alcohol addiction may assist you with positive results, and the best of luck to you, but it is not for everyone and you must still be vigilant about your health ongoing. But for a few, these therapies can cause disastrous consequences. If you are sensitive to drugs in general, are taking any drugs for any reason, or can not tolerate drugs consider EMDR therapy, it is non-invasive but takes a lot of time and work. For someone like me with mental health issues psychedelic hard drugs have had disastrous cognitive effects, I was never been able to tolerate them as a youth in the 70s, 80s.

Its so. frustrating that this is the LAST RESORT treatment.. If this is so effective then why do we make people suffer through every other alternative first.. Theres probably so many people who killed themselves or harmed someone else or their families suffered from a horrible home environment because we make people wait until this is their last hope... Not using this therapy more frequently and more often goes against the entire foundation of Evidenced Based Practice that the mental health and health care industry have been built upon. If there was a choice between a treatment that only occurs 3 times and virtually cures someone VS. a lifetime of drugs that just dull their pain and emotions what would you choose for your family if they had PTSD?!?!?!?

MDMA is dangerous if it's abused, much like prescription opioids. These drugs are useful in medical settings but always have a chance of harm. If used correctly they can help greatly.
@ImGoingSSJ97
@ImGoingSSJ97 5 жыл бұрын
The thing is most people take mdma with breaks of AT LEAST 2-3 months. Of course there's the 5~10% that abuse it, but most take it every 2-3months which is exactly the guideline to get away from the neurotoxicity(which happens only above recommended doses so youre asking for it) and get the most benefit with the least side effects as possible. The thing is even taking into account the number of people that will get addicted, you have to understand current treatments like benzos and the other self-medicatiing like smoking and alcohol is not only much more damaging but lethal if stopped. Benzo withdrawal is lethal seizure, so is alcohol as they both work on GABA. Most ptsd sufferers are prescribed benzos everyday and are dependend, do you think they don't also drink alcohol on top of that to numb the fear response and severe constant anxiety? Alcohol alone is more lethal, but add smoking and benzos which is a common combination.. and MDMA even when taking the addiction into account, is statistically safer than the current LEGAL treatments, and the benefit is just so high, (i mean you're literally saving people from suicide and have a good life again) that the 10% of people that will get addicted, is too little of a cost to not be worth it. It still outweighs the bad. Even if you take mdma everyday, after a week you will not only feel nothing anymore from it, but the comedown will be so brutal you will never take it again, which is kinda cool as an addiction-prevention and doing so you're asking for it. The cooler thing is that people abstain for the 3 months to get the MOST good time out of the experience. Taking every day is stupid and not worth it at al

I didnt do it with a therapist but with close friends. The way i do it is that in every roll I go through multiple converdations and a lot of hugging with my friends, talking about our issues, find solutions etc. But most importantly make each other feel valuable and loved. I also always find some alone time to reflect on my life. In general epiphanies and insights emerge during the roll but also the general calm that comes during thr week allows me to change patterns before things return to normal.

it is. You dont understand the after effects and how therapy prolongs those. You are only thinking about the few hours of the PEAK of the HIGH, and while that feels good, that's not the point, its the exact point where you are able to just.. let go of the constant "on guard" mode and fear, and then as drug fades away, you feel positive outlook on life for quite a moment. For me it lasts 3~6 months, during them I feel no depression and feel completely normal, finally. You havent taken it thats why you dont understand the power of the after effects that last way longer than the high.

Dude, i just dont like it and how i feel on it. I still think it should be legal because that doesnt mean others shouldnt enjoy its medicinal AND recreational effects, but its effects are the least what I needed. The effect of empathy and ability to just .. let go of fear is why mdma helped me. I couldnt do that on cannabis, it actually made it worse, especially social anxiety. I couldntbeon the bus because i felt like im watched. ON mdma i felt at peace for just a moment and thats exactly what i needed. The reason its called mriacle cure because there was NO effective treatment, just some shitty bandaids where the patient still kills himself eventually. Its a miracle cure for SOME and it isnt for OTHERS, so they cant say its absolute miracle cure for everyone, but the reason tis sometimes called that because it has 70~80% of remission, thats extreme compared to current treatments, where only 20% of people get SOME remission, and the 80%? they get NO relief, hence suicide or drugs. Its just uncomparable to current day treatments and no one thought there would be such a success rate its a "what the fuck??" moment for the researchers
@TeaIngyer

ImGoingSSJ I'm weary of it until it's peer reviewed, and independently tested by other researchers. That's how medicine works, do you know what thalidomide is? It's a drug that got approved in the UK with little testing, and ended up causing major, and often fatal birth defects in babies. The scientists held up how good it was at being a mild mood enhancer and sedative, and choose to not even test for negative effects. The next problem was that perceptions change hands, it's a fact. If you perscribe to one person you have nooo idea where that perception will end up, sold on the street, stolen, or given to friends and family. I'll trust this cure if it meets its burden of proof for safety and efficacy, and even then I'd be equally as careful about it as with drugs like opiate painkillers

I've been doing MDMA in reasonable doses and frequency since 2016, I'm a mechanical engineering student and I've read a lot of articles about MDMA neurotoxicity. If you do it responsibly, you're going to lose magic eventually (MDMA doesn't feel that great anymore) and after this happens, there's no reason to continue your use of this substance. It's a relatively safe substance for intelligent people who like to have amazing time 1-2 times a year. In therapeutic setting people take MDMA only few times in controlled enviroment and there is no evidence of neurotoxicity in those people who used MDMA in this trial.

I tried it too when younger and saw braindamage with lot of frequent users, who could not resist using it, especially when intoxicated by alcohol. I agree, that it is a potent drug with strong effects, but very dangereous too. Besides its usually mixed with poison and yiucant tell the dose exactly when used in party settings.

That's why I said it's a safe for intelligent people. This substance will always atract people with no self control and these people will doing line after line and have some level of brain damage because they are not responsible with their use. Simply put, majority of drugs are safe for responsible people and some of them (psychedelics) have potential to make user's life better. People who don't have knowledge and self control need therapeutist or experienced and trustworthy tripsitter to experience these benefits of drug use.
