She said "not really" I said "oh nice", walked right up to the fries, grabbed two large boxes of fries and just walked out with it when the other kitchen employees weren't paying close attention. I turned back to the cashier as I walked away and she just smiled lmao. It's called auditing a class. You get the education, but no record of grades, credits, or a degree. I don't know of any College that doesn't allow auditing. I'm shocked that this isn't common knowledge. I've known about this since the 70s. I learned it from College Counselors. Rent, borrow, or buy your books... and show up. That's it. But..! If the job you want requires "The Sheepskin" --- The Diploma --- You're spit out of luck. That's what you're paying for. The Certification.

Actually, you pay for the extras that make the book learning & lectures worth while. And, of course, you pay for the connections and opportunities. MIT has been giving away it's coursework for almost 30 years now. The course material is great. But it's less than half of what you actually learn in most courses. The other half comes from the labs, and the research you get to do. None of which you can do by sneaking in or reading online. It's certainly true that you can get a good education for free by being motivated and using MIT or Harvard free materials. But it objectively won't be as good as what you get by matriculating. And that leaves out all opportunities that attending give in the Real World. I'd strong suggest anyone who wasn't able to get in to such a school to avail themselves of the materials. That's just smart. But it's not a substitute for attending.
