Its almost a trend of Boro (3 seasons now) to give the rest of the league a 10 to 12 game head start whilst we find our feet and get all the bad luck out of the way, then suddenly throw the whole thing into gear and put many teams to the sword seemingly effortlessly to roar up the table. What did for Boro last season though was having by far the worst injury list in the championship with a minimum of 7 or 8 first teamers out for a solid 4 months of the season?😮 Without that happening this year, I'd expect our final place in the table to look a lot more like 22/23? But we do love the attractive complete football we play, the polar opposite to when Tony Pulis was here!

Can’t argue with your assessment. It’s probably no accident that fans of most clubs Boro have played so far, have said they’ve been the best team they’ve come up against, whatever the result was.

Been watching the boro since '91 - seen lots of high quality players turn out for the club (Juninho, Ravanelli, Barmy, Merson, etc) - but in terms of having cohesive structured tactical play, Carrick's team is the best i've seen. It is, and has been, very frustrating when things don't click up front. We can dominate teams but not penetrate and lose through a silly missed pass in defense. But when we click, its glorious stuff. With the players we brought in over the summer, and as importantly, retained from last season, i thought we'd sail to the top of the league. It's taken far too long for us to get going, but this season, unlike the last two, there aren't a couple of dominant teams who have already pulled out big leads at the top of the table. Hopefully this season we get it right and get back to where we should be. UTB

There was an incredibly lazy take from a lot of boro fans with latte lath that he didn’t seem interested and was playing bad bc he wasn’t scoring, ik his goal scoring form was really bad but his overall play and work rate has been unreal all season and he’s now adding the goals back to his game which were eventually always going to come around

I've enjoyed watching Boro this season, but I do think one thing you haven't touched on which does remain a challenge for them is when the opposition are organised and sit off. There have been a few games this season where the other team has sat back and not applied any pressure - when that happens, Boro sometimes struggle to break through because they don't take a lot of risks with the forward play and there often isn't an obvious forward pass available. They've been attacking with more intent lately, which is great, but I worry that more organised and resolute defences will dig in and cause a problem and because our back-line is prone to make the occasional error it can tip a finely balanced game in the wrong direction.

Ive watched every game this season. Sunderland and Coventry are the only 2 teams that deserved to beat us. We dominated Watford, Derby and Bristol and got sucker punched and lost somehow. Should have an extra 9 points than what we have. We play teams off the park every game. Tis like watching Man City in the championship. Now the goals are flying in, i honestly think we will be in top 2. Said it all season.

The goals are flying in because we played 2 horrendous teams. If he sets up like he did against Luton with 2 pacey wide players and not mcgree on the wing... playing more direct and not as much rubbish in our own half well probably be a bit more consistent but he always goes back to the possession based crap with the overlapping left back and mcgree cramping azaz.

@@user-bh4gw7ck4d Mate, we smashed Leeds, smashed Sheff Utd and tortured Norwich who were unbeaten at home for over a year and were very unoucky to draw. We beat West Brom at their ground when they were top. Luton might not be doing well, but that team was in prem last season. We tortured them 5 1. We went to Watford and played them off park and let two proper late goals in. XG has been there all season, just havent been putting them in. Doesnt matter who we play. Now all our new players have settled in and our injured players are back.

They have been playing consistently well as the defensive and attacking XG shows, the goalies have had blunders, individual mistakes by different players, it has been said since the results would soon reflect the XG but people were beginning to grumble. They have had maybe 2 or 3 bad games but that is all Boro NEVER make things easy for themselves.

First time I've come across you guys, and firstly, well done! Nice little watch and listen. I would maybe suggest a little more nuisance. It sounds to me like you know your stats and have watched Boro's last two games. Apart from that, your comments were more vague and general than a deep dive. Latte Lath, for example, was dropped for a period. Boro build up in a 3-2-5 and defend in a 4-4-2/4-4-1-1. Overall, it is really good and enjoyable. I will watch again 👍

Playing out from the back is our achilles heel. We're just not very good at it. We give at least one chance away per game by losing the ball in our own third. Oh well, we're still a lot of fun to watch.

A GD of only +6 (17 goals conceded) shows that attacking football does not necessarily pay off. Somehow, the balance of attack and defence must be corrected PDQ.

I mean we beat 2 teams in horrific form. Against decent teams we generally get exposed. Tactically we are actually pretty poor. If Doak gets injured we will struggle

no you don't understand it on the face of it if you don't score goal xg doesn't count but it take into account all attacking play domination shots touches in opponents area which you don't get without domination

@micky1up I perfectly understand it. The thing is it counts chances where there's 2 defenders in thr way or it's a tight angle and not much chance of a goal but in the eyes of XG it's chance. At the end of the day we weren't creating good enough chances to score enough goals earlier in the season. Possession means nothing when you have no cutting edge and we didn't for alot of games this season. XG is a load of bull it's the old if your auntie had balls shed be your uncle. That's why the XG table doesn't represent the current standings unless you believe its all just down to luck.
