To be clear, the ending of MK11 is NOT setup for a hard reboot. If MK12 continues on from MK11 in ANY WAY, it's a soft reboot. A hard reboot would be starting completely fresh with no story connections to past games.

I hope MK 12 will give a better character analysis to previously forgotten character's. Since now Nether Realm Studio's don't need to add Liu Kang and Kitana into the New Era. I think it would be cool if The new time line would tell the story of the original MK , with Kung Lao as "The Chosen One" , and Melinna as Shao Khan's only child somehow. Heck we could delve deeper to Mediterranean god killer's or having the original Sub Zero alive but the little bro who became evil(as unlikely as this one be.). Heck why not make Raiden Mortal while Fujin head honcho. At this point anything could happen. i just feel that we need to set aside the new MK character's (Future kids) and Overused one (Special Forces)[sorry Stryker] while we focus more on something else (The Original roster {except Liu Kang}can stay). Just make Sonya and Jonny not a big as a vocal point[not that i don't like them, but i feel like they have enough spot light for now]. Mabye I am just hoping to much.

Those visions also include Shaolin Monks, even though Shaolin Monks have a lot of inconsistencies with original timeline. And there is also as well a lot of events in MK9 which happened without Raiden's interference. At this point MK9's Armageddon being separate timeline where every single event happened similar to yet different from original timeline makes more sense. Taven was probably killed by Raiden in that timeline explaining his absence on a Pyramid and appearance in Raiden's vision.

Yeah 'cause time travel ALWAYS revolve around multi-verse, that's why EndGame worked, although Marvel Studio did plan this 11 years ago, thus making a great movie. Netherrealm however chose to go with Kitana and Liu Kang invasion, then suddenly felt the need to add a fucking time lord and abandoned what would have been a more solid idea. Time travel stories dont need to involve multiple universe. These things can work together or completely separated. Multiple universe can work as simple as "there are other universes" But time travel is complex. Not a single Hollywood movie made it work like it should. First, because they set different rules. Time travel works different from movie to movie, so you cant really tell which one is doing it right. Second, the only logic time travel story is the one that involves a closed time loop. The kind of story where the main character travels back in time and creates a paradox after changing something. Then the story will repeat itself forever. I'll explain it. Lets say, I want to kill Hitler. I go back in time and I kill him before the Nazis become a thing. When I travel to the present, the world wouldnt know about Hitler/Nazis. I myself shouldnt be able to know about it, I did, then I would keep memories of the timeline before, and it simply has no logic. If I change the past. I get memories from the new past, not the one before changing things. So I shouldnt be able to remember Hitler/Nazis. And that means I wouldnt have any reason to travel in time I the first place, creating the paradox. So time itself should be restored. Hitler/Nazis would be a thing. And I'll would see myself traveling back in time to kill Hitler... again. That's the only way time travel works fine. No inconsistency. No plot device. Pure logic. If you mess with time once, time will mess with you forever. So fuck your Endgame and their shitty "I have seen 14 bazilions of endings". If you change one thing, then you affect everything that comes after that.

I hate that that's the way out of everything now, instead just saying "the timeline was reset/changed", "a different universe", "a different multiverse", "a different dimension" it's LAZY if it doesn't actually do anything to the plot. I knew it was going to be shit as soon as 'time travel' came up about this, even before it was released... With the hundreds of different ways that they could have taken MK11 with the different endings for classic mode alone... this should have never been a necessity to begin with. Anything would have been better. The last thing a game series should ever copy are bad habits from comic books. Now the mortal kombat universe has very little in terms of interest, because now it opens so many problems for the characters. A lot of the characters such as Superman, Batman, and other characters are 'different' in their incarnations with these multiple... time-line... universes? Hell, we saw it in MK9 with how the characters pre-MK9 were rebooted/changed/different than their newer incarnations... now they are doubling down on it by making DOZENS, if not hundreds of new variations. Why did they double down with MK9? It's not like they didn't throw ideas in the wind that they could have used. Let's look at ones that could have possibly happen. (even if some of them are mediocre/shit, it feels like a better alternative than... this). 1) MK9 introduced Jade being possessed by someone from a 'dreamrealm'? 2) MKX showed Shang Tsung coming back through Ermac 3) MK9 showed Ermac coming back as Jarred 4) MKX introduced through multiple characters the idea of a reverse Mortal Kombat (Earthrealm invading Outworld) 5) MKX and MK9 introduced the concept of Reptile coming back with others of his kind 6) MKX introduced the concept of Kung Lao and cousin helping eachother to redeem Kung Lao 7) MKX introduced the concept of a Dark Raiden, albeit maybe different than old Dark Raiden 8) MKX introduced Tremor as some kind of Earth Demi-God 9) Goro was hinted at that he would return/be the new Onaga through the Comics 10) Emperor Jet Lee ruling Netherrealm 11) Noob Saibot was sucked into the tornado similar to Scorpion, leading to possible Noob = Elder God champion 12) Kenshi and son rescue Tarven, protagonist from Armageddon Among other things. Hell, they could have thought of anything else. ANYTHING else. But no, MK would be better if there were hundreds of universes created VIA Timeline fuckery.

Just some of my thoughts. I'm pretty sure there's was a time gap between the MKX comics and the main story MKX game, so they might be 5 years apart. Cassie's time displaced interaction implied that one of them didn't do the same, so her graduating early in the noncanon timeline could be possible. "Go back to the nineties" might not be meant literally, but just as a reference towards the outdated look on younger Kano. Kronika mentions that she lost count of reseting the timeline, which means that there might be more timelines than the ones we saw. Armageddon's already seemed to be set up for Lui Kang to fight Dark Raiden, if Lui Kang's soul was restored to his body, so Kronika probably had an issue with Zombie Lui Kang and Dark Raiden's actions tampering with her balance.

Good video, but I'll admit to having some issues. It's a nice idea that the timelines we see in that montage took place inbetween Original and Current, but I don't think that's what the were going for. It also makes it sound like a cop-out for why the retcons and continuity issues exist. It also feels like it makes the Original Timeline even more irrelevant since they wouldn't matter even to the Reboot Trilogy anymore. I'm not against the idea, but I feel it needs more to sell me on it.

I fully agree that MK11, X, and 9 feel so different from the end of Armageddon that the drastic timeline mashup fully feels like Kronika started messing with things and lead to MK9 starting the way it did (and Jade's mk9 ending has the first indication of Kronika existing). It would also explain a lot if the MK9 events were just the last in that flash sequence of humorously named liu kang and raiden fights.

I don't think the writers give a fuck about what's going on. They probably told each others: 'Hey since we've put our stories into a dead end, let's make everything so fucking mess up and also have cool fight scenes with great graphic so no one bothers explaining shits, thus fooling them that we're doing a good job on story telling and characters development, setting the story to ANOTHER reboot cause you know nothing fucking matters'. And somehow that worked...Well at least not to The4thSnake.

The series should’ve just ended right there. MK9 was a great follow up and served its purpose as a recon of the dumb shit between MK4-A. Unfortunately, Midway/NetherRealm doesn’t know how to make a good post-Shao Kahn ruling Mortal Kombat, and they end up jerking off with half-baked ideas instead of focusing on improving what does work and not change their mind on the story halfway through, despite creating a setup at the end of MK9, 10, and (I guess) 11. They should just stick with Injustice and give MK a long overdue rest.
