hell we already have 2 toukiden games on pc, and the second one's port was allright, now we just need a true monster hunting experience that pushes the boundaries with what pc has to offfer, cant wait to see what both of these games bring to the table. Also monsterhunter world is comming early 2018 for consoles, pc will be a later date so could be as late as the end of the year.

Apples every game has their good points and their bad points. most people that know about dauntless come from monster hunter. that means that monster hunter has a bigger weight towards a game that is still unplayable. while its true that the dauntless game is still in alpha what do we have? 3-4 monsters vs countless old monsters + (2+N) new monsters? theb theres the guild system in countless with their benefits ti the active hunters. as far as i know the guild system never works as it should in a multiplayer. bigger guilds tebd to have better benefits (either because the number of players male it easier or cause there's a required number of players to get a particulsr benefit) which makes bigger guilds "the best option" while personally i found that bigger guilds are cold, mathematical, and at the end boring (most of tye times you have to improve by yourself, or being babysit/carried by others. while small guilds are more humane and warmer. where everyone helps the others cause of the same level of gear and proximity. as i said i dont know how the guild system is going to be implemented but its an added drawback for me. as you can see i havent said that one is better than abother, but i stated 2 points that incline my personal taste towards the game. (and thanks i haven't talked about the feeling i get from the videos in both games)

Especially now that it's on multiple "real" consoles and PC with awesome graphics and new features that make this already great franchise even better. Plus, 90% of all MH entries have been successful and are one of the top if not the top games in Japan. I don't get why people get so irrational to the point where they deny that possibilities are possible... much less why start an argumment over which one is better on this section like stated by the OP(lie, i understand, it's just one of those things i preferred i didn't). Kudos to you 5Ermacs for keeping your cool in your first arguments and properly explaining a completely valid view on all of this, i cannot say i invested as much time on MH altho i was familiar with the franchise since the first, the way multiplayer was done or the complete lack of it, along with the lack of an immersive plot, always had me investing just a little but always urged to give the game more of my time(bought the 3ds just to play MHU4 cause of MP system improvements and loved it), but refrain from remarks such as "it'd be hillarious if MH flops ass"(probably one of the lines that put Clash on the offensive so you're not really wise on all of your statements either regardless of how you felt when you wrote all of that), i know the possibility is there and you dont actually mean that but i have quite high hopes for this one and that the system improves, even if just a little, from the previous releases. Quite frankly i got familiar with dauntless, like previously stated here, because of monster hunter and was only planning to use it as it's substitute and see if i could convince my friends to play it with me from time to time...with that said i want both games to have complete success, just like i'm sure all of us here desire so let's avoid pitiful remarks and judgement of values otherwise we'll turn our small community toxic quite fast and although i'm not familiar with our community that's the last thing i desire if communication will be active. While I don't think that it's strictly "either or", this will most likely divide the playerbase. Anyone that plays games like Monster Hunter knows that these games require quite a lot of time investment. Sure they have a choice between the two, but I doubt people are going to be playing both at the same time. But I do believe the Dauntless team saw the MHW video and really decided to step up their game and try to develop much more interesting stuff now.

The problem is that dauntless was going to be (for me) the replacement for Monster hunter on high end (PC, PS4 etc not 3ds) but Dauntless is a MMORPG and will have microtransactions whereas Monster Hunter World, if you have read all the interviews it will be a classic Monster hunter, meaning offline play and solo possibilities with the 4-player coop as traditional MH games have had..and no microtransactions. That is massive for me as a massive Monster Hunter fan

I hate to say it but MHWorlds announcment to me atleast, has completely shattered Dauntless' chances of becoming popular, even though its free. Monster Hunter is already a AAA Hunting game, with infinite replayability. We have no idea how Dauntless will hold up to that fact, which leads me to beleive more people will still pay the $60 for a garunteed great game. Especially that MHW is on 3 platforms. Ive played the Dauntless alpha, it has a LONG way to go to even compare to even an MH demo to be quite honest. I feel a little sorry for Phoenix Labs trying so hard to just almost immediately lose half the fanbase because of this new MH announcement (they didnt lose half the fanbase, just being dramatic to get the point across)

D35TR0YM4N Not saying I dislike the free content- but the "dlc" you get on the recent MonHun games on the 3ds (probs the ones on the Wii/Wii U too) came on-disc/cartridge. For example, you could edit your save easily in generations (a friend of mine did) and could access "DLC" content before its release. MonHun's approach to DLC is great, but at some point the "DLC" (that technically came with the base game) runs out and honestly I'd rather have continued expansions in addition to some freebies. Anyways I'd be surprised if they didn't start releasing DLC expansions- after working out the game engine for PC and two consoles no less. To me what would really suck (and what many, especially the PC and western markets they are targeting would not stand for) is if they tried to re-release the game as a "Monster Hunter World... X" which is how the true added content has usually been added in MonHun titles, mainly in Japan but also in the west (Though not on same consoles so understandable) with MH3/MH3X. Going the MH Frontier expansion route is something I'd really look forward to.

In monster hunter you can mount on top of the monster to attack it, in dauntless you can't, and in monster hunter you can craft bombs for hunting, and you can also craft traps and in dauntless you can't. In monster hunter you can watch monsters fight and in dauntless you can`t.

I doubt it. There are many free games I know which handle micro-transactions really well. IMO, Warframe is a good example. The only thing that you need to spend money on is fashion frame (the true endgame) but even then, you can get 90% of cosmetics without having to spend money, be it trade chat (the bane of my existence) or platinum giveaways. I have a feeling that dauntless will be like this, micro-transactions only necessary for cosmetics. I sure hope so, at least.

I have 2 things to say about that. Firstly, they're founders packs. Of course there's gonna be something there to make you stronk early. Also, to me all those things are just to speed up your progression through the game so I don't really see them as p2w. Fevir himself made a video that goes over the founders packs. Secondly, I don't think that founders packs a representative of what will be in-game. We'll have to wait and see what actually happens, I just hope the micro-transactions will be reasonable.

Dauntless is just.... Unlucky. They was supposed to fill this huge gap that was left blank by mh. But then mh itself unexpectedly come with all of its greatness and accidentally shoved dauntless out of the way. And no matter how well dauntless turns out, it will never be the great "mh substitutes" that it was promised. As for the fans... Yeah, we all know that most fans are stupid. Rpg fans might love many rpg games, cuz they finished one game, and they want to move on to another stories. But other games...? Remember fifa vs. pes every year? Or cod vs. battlefield? J C fighting dark souls bosses a hundred times until you have enough Materials to craft New stuff and then fighting stronger bosses a hundred times until you have enough Materials for even better equipment so you can fight even stronger bosses and so on and so on... its basically only bossfights but these fights are so good you dont need anything else

Imagine you take a mission, enter huge map like dark soul (lets say from the first place in darks soul 3 to firelink shrine, one place connected to other place), with less dangerous small enemy, and usually only one big boss, which move from one place to another place. You hunt the boss for money from quest, material carved from the boss (fang, skin, scell, etc) which you use to make more powerfull weapon and armor, so you can kill more dangerous boss. You also gather material from mining and plant, to make item. Basicly like all other survival game, but no perma death. There is mission failed which happen if you die certain time during mission

J C No, it's not about fighting dark souls bosses, your character is a hunter, you have diferent weapons and armor types. You get in a quest to hunt a monster, you are in a map where there are small zones with loading screens between them, the monster spawns and moves between the zones, you need to find him, then you engage in a bossfight pretty intense but(depends a lot in the monster) not as hard as some DS bosses could be, if you learn a monsters patern it becomes very easy to avoid being hit because of telegraphing. You hunt it down and kill or cap'im, then the quest's done, you get materials from the monster. Those can be used if in necesary quantity to forge weapons with the same characteristics as the boss, or armor with similar defensive capabilities. Then you hunt harder bosses then you repeat time after time after time for the fucking plate or gem you never get fucking drop because it's 2% odds. And that's it, combat is satisfying, the armor/weapon crafting is a very rewarding system that's gonna make you feel acomplished, and the game has hundreds of hours to offer just to go threw the game and kill all monsters. I do recommend you try a MH game MH4U would be a good entry for you, but you can wait for MhWorld cuz it's probably gonna be the best MH game released to date.

If you want to get into them and you have a PSP or something some of the titles go on sale for around 5-10USD. Just a word of warning, Monster Hunter's learning curve is similar to something like Dota 2 or Counter-Strike, you will be incredibly lost and being owned for a long time. You could skip this phase by downgrading to another fun series, God Eater, but you'd be missing out on the more unique play styles and depth Monster Hunter offers.

MH is way way easier to learn compared to dota. pretty sure you can understand the gameplay after few hours of playing. meanwhile, dota took me like 2-3 weeks to understand just the gameplay. hell, after 4 years of playing im not even sure if i understand all the heroes in dota.

Jeff Reyes Dauntless is a free game though so it will need to have some sort of micro transaction to maintain itself, the question is if the can make them in a balanced way so that people will want to buy it but not feel forced to or get left behind.

Good insight. I was thinking along the same lines on Dauntless coming out first and building some community before MHW's release, but didn't really figure whether or not it would be hurt by the competition somehow. But forgetting the whole competition part, having more than one game do help raise awareness to the genre a lot. Even if one would blame the already built up fad, up until not long ago the moba genre was just a bit bigger than a niche genre like hunting/action/RPG games. Then we had all these new mobas release, and LoL and DotA 2 kinda of establishing themselves as pillars for the genre while others like Smite and HotS would give an alternative take to it. Nowadays the genre is just as popular as any other classic genre that's been out there since before I was born. What I'm trying to say is that, besides Dauntless, Monster Hunter and God Eater (which already has a game on Steam), we might see a lot more games like them being developed by western studios in the future, and maybe finally get a better genre definition, because "action role-playing game" is just too generic to define it. In any case, I will play both anyway. It's just as it was said, I'm a Final Fantasy fan and that is why I even got into playing Tales, Atelier, Persona and all kinds of JRPGs. And the fact that I'm a MH fan is also why I wanted to play Dauntless, so from the very start MH is the reason why a lot of the people wanted to play Dauntless anyway. That is proof that as much as they compete for a stable playerbase, similar games also sort of help each other too.

Since the Battleborn marketing kinda took on Overwatch for no reason (like Usain Bolt smack talking Tom Brady), it made it an Overwatch or Battleborn situation. Overwatch wasn't overpriced, so it won. (it was also, inherently, a better game). Dauntless, while not having the best marketing, is certainly a league above battleborn and it's gonna be free. It's more of an Overwatch-Paladins situation. Paladins, by the way, is still alive and well. Well, this comment turned out longer than I was hoping for... hmm

5Ermacs monster hunter DLC, as far as the main series I have played, always are free to download. They range to monster battles, tags for your name, and special palicos. The only thing you have to pay for is the eventual G-rank inclusion via another game, but that can be skirted by just waiting for it to come out. If you were a real fan of monster hunter you would already know they have this formula in place. They release the full game. After a while they release the updated "ultimate" version with G-rank included. Some times the original will not come to the west so we only get the G-rank included version. Sounds like the opposite of milking the consumers. I don't know how the development process works to require so much time to add G-rank and come to the west but i have faith in the team, especially since MHW will be a main series game.

On paper your points make sense, but even a vocal minority can really change a game's community going forward, especially given one is a f2p game. Well all know no matter how fair the monetization is, thousands and thousands of people will tell everyone they can how "p2w" it is, and inevitably how Dauntless is "ripping off" MH. I am going to stay with Dauntless because I have played it and I like where it is headed, I think the truest test will be what are we offered aside from just the core experience of slaying behemoths.

ill say this as a fellow hunter : I have not played any other monster hunter game than monster hunter tri and mh3u. I absolutly loved mh3u and was very hyped for mh4 , but thing is , now that my eyes were used to good graphics I decided to not get a 3ds. The only problem I have with your little rant is that it wasn't Nintendo keeping Monster Hunter, that was Capcom's decision. You seem to forget that the rest of the world exists and Japan has a very different market from its western counterparts. In Japan, the handheld market completely dominates because a lot of Japanese people have a workaholic nature, so they are on the go a lot. That's the biggest reason Monster Hunter has continued to be on 3DS, not because Nintendo is locking them down. They were free to make it on any system they wanted, and 3DS was their comfortable home which made them a lot of money.

I like MH. Dauntless seems like nothing me. IMO you show up where there is a monster about 2 or 3 times your size, dodge roll till you're close, and hack and slash. There are finite differences between that and monster hunter. Like: prep work, strategy, and exploration. Dauntless is on flying islands FFS. You know it'll just be an instance more like vindictus than anything.

i do believe that the player base of these kind of games has been expanded thanks in part to the Soul series. Both are action adventure RPG, with similar gameplay concepts related to boss fights (where MH only has boss battles). When I played DS, I really felt that MHtri had prepared me for it's kind of gameplay. Perhaps this can help these games reach a larger audience, and even expand the love for this wonderful serie.

In MHWorld, a new feature implemented where (since the maps are now more open and dont have any load screens) you can go to your offline quest, but if you're having trouble with a boss monster, you can send out a signal (an invite to online randoms) to other hunter who wants to help, teleporting them to your quest, making a seamless transition from offline to online quest (da same as a DarkSouls co-op mechanic) . In the older MH games, the offline campaign and online campaign are completely separate making it a huge pain.

As a Xbox owner, I'm so happy to see monster hunter coming back to consoles but...one of the things that made me stick to monster hunter was the fact that I could pretty much play it anywhere. I wasn't restricted to my house and could play it either in that mall or maybe in the train. I mean, I'm not planning on pre-ordering anything yet. But the main reason I'm more excited about MHW is the interactivity of the environment. I don't know how much of it was scripted stuff, but watching things like the monster hitting a tree and knocking it down, or the sudden waterfall, etc. was really awesome, and something new that I haven't really seen in the genre.
