If you’ve been in the Dragon Ball community for a while you’ll hear a lot of characters get called frauds. Vegetto gets called a fraud for the dumbest reasons. It seems like Vegeta and Gohan fans are having fraud offs on the daily, but we all really know that Mr. Satan is the biggest fraud in Dragon Ball and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
You see Mark here - oh yeah that’s his real name according to Toriyama by the way - is a fraud by the time we meet him, but he wasn’t always that way. He won his first Tenkaichi Budoukai, the 24th, with his own strength and techniques, but that was probably the worst thing to happen to him. Master Roshi entered the 21st Tenkaichi Budoukai to make sure Goku and Krillin gained humility. It was possible that winning their first tournament and receiving the most prestigious victory in martial arts would make them complacent and arrogant when there was still so much for them to learn.
Mr. Satan is the realization of this. His master was dead when he entered his first Tenkaichi Budoukai. There wasn’t someone to make sure he learned this lesson so he didn’t. He became complacent and arrogant. Even if Goku and the others didn’t enter the 25th Tenkaichi Budoukai there were other threats to his title - like his own daughter. Despite him claiming his opponents use tricks to win or seem flashy and cool he’s the one actually using tricks to achieve his victories or avoid defeat. A man who once became world champion through his own merits was now only holding that title with deceit and the help of others. Yet somehow I think he’s also earned the right to keep his title and he also might be the best example of a hero - by Dragon Ball standards.

I've honestly think I've gained a new appreciation for Mr. Satan. Back when I first got into DBZ in 2013 I honestly really hated Mr. Satan for taking Gohan's credit, and his gimmicks irritated me back then. While he's by no means my favorite character, I've grown to think of him as amusing and considering how he's paid back Goku's family and his concern for Buu I've grown to enjoy him.

In short, we don't appreciate this man enough. Most of the Z fighters like Goku and Piccolo do though, and they acknowledge Mr. Satan not cause he's strong, but because he's HIM. Mr. Satan isn’t a fraud for the sole reason that he did what any of the Z warriors couldn’t: befriend Buu. Since rather than trying to just turn him into a pink paste, since Buu was only manipulated by Babidi into doing bad things, Mr. Satan instead tried to make him see the error of his ways and turn into a new leaf. Which of course didn’t last once both Evil and Super Buu eventually rolled around, but at the very least one weakness Super Buu did have was refusing to harm Mr. Satan since the Majinn Buu part of him still remembers their friendship.

This video highlights why Mr. Satan is one of my favorite characters. He isn’t strong like Goku and Vegeta, but he’s just as much of a hero as they are. He has flaws, but at heart he is a good guy that cares for his daughter and the people around him. While I have some issues with the Buu Arc, I loved seeing Hercule get closer to Buu and the dog, as well as him helping save the day at the end. He isn’t perfect (Only Cell is /j), but he isn’t a bad person. He may not have Ki control, but he’s a promising Martial Artist if he won the 24th Tenkaichi Budokai fair and square. He may be overconfident, but he’s willing to swallow his pride if it means saving the day. I just hope future chapters of the DBS Manga keep the charm of the character.

I'm pretty sure if he was ever given Z warrior level of strenght, he would easily be tied with Piccolo as the "most reliable" fighter.

Honestly what makes Mr Satan such a hero is that, in the midst of literal gods and gods among men, he is just a mostly normal dude. He's very strong by normal people's standards, but he at the end of the day is just *a guy* and as you stated he still manages to work up the courage to do his part when most people would hesitate or be completely frozen in fear. His true power is his ability to be normal but still be willing to do what must be done for the good of others, even with his normally cowardly and vain nature.

This video reminded us how important Hercule was, but we just choose to forget it. Both of the penultimate enemies of Dragonball Z, would have been unstoppable without the few small actions made by Hercule. That's actually one of the things I like about early Super: the Z-Fighters use Mr. Satan as a cover so they can live relatively peaceful lives, Mr. Satan gives Goku the reward money for the heroics he takes credit for, and his credibility with the world gets people to evacuate from dangerous situations so the Z-Fighters can fight without worry.

I want to thank you for this video in particular. I love all your videos but this one was made especially for a character most people would throw away or brush off as filler. My best friend, brother, and I were pissed when Goku saved “Hurcle” (lol )and Dende. We all felt Vageta words to be true. Boy how wrong were we all! A poor writer would have introduced a character like this as filler just to annoy the people. But a great writer introduces characters to push the story further and with an amazing payoff towards the end. That’s exactly what we all got from Mr. Satan throughout his journey.

I'm always wondering why everyone assumes Mr Satan is viewed as weak among the fandom. He's usually viewed as barely above a normal human. Strength wise i view him as a throwback to the martial artists from the OG Dragonball. Basically him being any final 8 tournament competitor. (80-200 power level) he's weak by current power levels but compitant based on normal standards.

Thinking about it at least the Dub Mr Satan i think mentioned spoavirch (the guy videl fought) was a joke in the last tournament. Or wasn't that strong in the last tournament. I think most people just see him as a joke character. While he is most people use that as he doesn't know what he's doing. I just assume that he knows what he's doing in Z bits just in way over his head. Hell he at least tried to help against Buu after seeing what happened in the cell games.

Mr. Satan I like to look at the Ambassador of everything Non-human. Like you said if it wasn't for him in the Kai World screaming at everyone, the Z-Warriors would've been screwed. Sure he's kind of a lot but he proves himself to be useful. I always forget the puppy scene but it brought back a lot of memories and made me realize why I do like Mr. Satan after all.

Well he did save the world at least 3 times. He threw Android #16 head towards Gohan at the Cell games. He befriended Majin Buu and made him stop killing people. He also was a key part in the defeat of Kid Buu by telling everyone to donate energy into Gokus' spirit bomb. He also tanked a punch from Kid Buu and survived being thrown into a mountain from Perfect Cell

the thing that makes mr.satan and videl both great they are both outsiders to the main cast. they bring the prospective a normal person when met with dudes that fly around shooting laser beams and punching craters into the ground. there is also a tad bit more weight to their actions when they know just how grossly outmatched they truly are. Yes the Z fighters are often outmatched but they can at least survive a fight to some extent. if mr.satan gets hit though, he's dead and he knows it. its not like someone like krillin where he is grossly outmatched but can at least tank a hit or 2 if he needs to.

I think people forget about Mr. Satan's legitimate feats in the DBZ Universe as well. This is a guy who not only legitimately won a World Martial Arts Tournament, but is able to pull four buses with raw human strength alone, and can punch holes through steel. He can punch fast enough that his fists become blurs and leave after-images. He has in-universe, in-canon survived being thrown into a mountain by Cell with no notable long-term damage. The man is probably the strongest normal human being on earth. He's just outclassed by the people around him, i.e. the cast of the show.

I have been really wanting to see a What If... scenario where Hercule trains with Roshi before his first tournament, because Hercule was a powerful combatant compared to normal humans, but if he had trained with Roshi from a young age, would he be one of the strongest of the Z Fighters since he would go from being one of the world's strongest to being a member of the Z fighters themselves? I imagine he would actually surpass Yamcha, Krillin, and Tien because on top of being legitimately strong even though he wasn't trained by a legendary master, he's also kind of a giant of a man, dwarfing most of the other humans that are shown around him with very few exceptions, so his natural strength and size would allow him to push even further than what the other three humans are capable of due purely to the physical constraints of their bodies that no amount of training could overcome.

Hercule befriending Buu, with the dog Bee was one of my favorite moments in all of Dragonball. He was a true hero which I in fact didn't like when I first saw it as a younger teenager. Their friendship is one of the reasons I watched the first Super arc when it came out.
