I think it may make a bigger difference for a sumo puller than a conventional. In sumo, the bottom half of the lift is hardest, which is where the deadlift bar helps by allowing you to start in a slightly higher position, but in conventional, the top half of the lift is hardest, where it doesn’t matter what bar you’re using.
@basmca1
@basmca1 2 жыл бұрын
This also combines with a generally smaller grip of the sumo deadlift making the bar flex even more. And a sumo deaflift is a shorter movement to start with, meaning that every centimeter less that the weight has to travel is a bigger % of gain.

I remember someone breaking down the stances and looked at the IPF versus feds that allow a deadlift bar and what they found is that the IPF has much more conventional pullers at the top of the pile than feds using DL/noodle bars. Iirc on a stiff bar it basically seems like a none factor while on the flexible bars sumo pullers are way out in front

I bought a DL bar for my home gym last year. It doesn’t make the pull feel easier. In fact I lose 10lbs off my max with it, because the whip. It feels like you really need to pull at a particular speed to get the right momentum for it to “help”. I still enjoy using it, though. I imagine at really high weights the flex makes more of a difference.

I think different lifters bennefitt from certain bar more than The other. I follow more Strongman, so my main example is Iván Makarov Who prefers the stiff bar and has pulled 490 on that bar while his best Pull on a Deadlift bar is 475. He simply gets more out of the stiff one, maybe due to he been stronger off the floor while weeaker at the knees where the whip of the Deadlift bar becomes a factor. Same for the Elephant bar, wich has more give but becomes a shaky nightmare for pullers.
@chrism45

It definitely depends on the weight and grip width as well. Sumo pullers will get more since their grip will be narrower.

it would be interesting to do a comparison between an axle bar with straps deadlift vs. powerbar deadlift. i wonder if there is a big difference there. given that with the axle there is zero whip and the bigger diameter puts the weight slightly further out in front...
@apointtomake1517
@apointtomake1517 2 жыл бұрын
Deadlift bars are smaller in diameter (easier to grip) and the main point of contention (with sumo especially) the bar is able to travel further until all of the weight is actually off the floor. The more plates you have on the more that effect is magnified.

Is it an issue of momentum? If you can pull a deadlift bar off the floor faster, then you have more momentum. This momentum can carry you all the way to lockout, if you can deal with the whip. Your lockout is faster with a deadlift bar, than if you pull off the floor slower, with a stiff bar. Does this make sense?

@@LiftingVault Well considering they gave him 3 white lights for a failed lift he could be a paper champion. Not watched hes other lifts, either way this gives a bad rep to powerlifting as overall which i think is sad. Powerlifting should be something good and something people should be able to be proud over, if i was not into strongman and old school bodybuilding i might got into arm wrestling and powerlifting. But if i had got into powerlifting early before this stuff started to happen i would later on have to wear my head down in shame cause of what powerlifting is becoming and it is just getting worse time over time.
