So here's the thing, normally the Constructors would not matter, but it does due to the teams in question. McLaren and Ferrari, the two longest running teams in the sport. Neither have won any championships since the late 2000's, both have experienced horrible low points in the years since and gone through periods were you weren't sure if they would ever really make it back to the top. For both teams winning the title would be a statement that their team is back to title winning ways. That the bad times are over and that they can dominate the sport again.

Very true. Ever since the hybrid era began it’s either Mercedes or Red Bull, two relatively new teams, that have won championships. Now that the two oldest and most successful teams are actively challenging for the constructor’s championship, we can say that the old guard is back. Next year will be a much more exciting prospect with McLaren, Ferrari, and Red Bull all close with each other in terms of car performance.
@michaelcourtney49698 күн бұрын
The thing is that the constructors has hardly been contested for the past decade. It's usually won by one team who is miles ahead
@renegerritsen61785 күн бұрын
For fans, the constructors does not really matter, usually, but you are right that 2 of the 3 teams in contention have not won that championship in a LONG time. I think McLaren deserve it more right now, as they have really made a major step forward this season. However, they have also bottled so many races and lost so many points, that you might argue that it would be a good wake up call if Ferrari could catch them and be WCC this year. McLaren still has a chance next year.
@aleskatic4315 күн бұрын
For fans not but for every F1 team employee and owner it matters a whole lot. Every team employee (between 700 - 1200 people) gets big bonus if they win constructors title and nothing if they win just drivers title. From marketing perspective I'm sure title brings a few more 100 millions into the buget. So I would argue it's not really clear which title is more important at the end.

Why do the F1 fans look down upon the Constructors' Championship? Surely it is not so prestigious and flashy as the drivers championship, yet it is for the whole team on track and back to the factory. Also it is more substantial, in terms of money. And of course, it is included among the achievements of an F1 team. A humble opinion from a tifosi of Ferrari.
@aoife11228 күн бұрын
But that's not true... the WCC is a tool to split the FIA prize money, the difference between P1 and P2 is what? 9 million dollar? Sorry, but that's "chickensh*t" in the grand scheme of things (and it will cost the team wind tunnel time allocation). If a team has a world champion driver in the car they can literally write their own numbers on the checks the sponsors will happily throw at them. No sir, the WDC is where the REAL money is, always has been, always will be. If anything, winning the WCC but not the WDC is a damning testament to their drivers failing to land "the big fish" despite having the best machinery at their disposal. (From a Tifosi who was NOT celebrating in 1976, 1999 or 2008)

F1 is ALL about the constructors championship, not the drivers title. Winning the constructors title is hugely profitable for the teams, and finances all prize money which is only paid at the end of the season. As far as the race director being sacked goes, nobody is mentioning the elephant in the room which is the red flag fiasco in Brazil. That looked 99% contrived in an effort to derail Max. The trouble was, they can't penalise the weather, and Max had the last laugh on everybody, especially McLaren. My question would be what would have happened if one of the cars that were allowed to pass a stricken car at racing speed had gone off & collided with the AM that looked as if it was deliberately driven into a travel trap by the hopeless Stroll. Remember Jules Bianchi? That red flag should have been deployed immediately. In my opinion, it was manipulative, and played a big part in the sacking of the race director. We're talking about driver's safety here, not internal politics.

As a former F1 engineer, the constructors has always meant more to me than the drivers and this year is no exception. In fact, if anything, it is more relevant this year with how much things have developed and chnaged. I've also been a fan for 4 decades and drivers come and go regularly but team loyalty endures.

loads of fans support a team and whoever drives for the team...so they also care about WCC...

It comes down to the type of fan i guess. There are driver fans and team fans. The team fans would care about the constructors.

It’s a good point the more heritage teams like McLaren and Ferrari constructors do mean a lot to them while some of the new teams like Mercedes and Red Bull the stars name versus the aforementioned teams

I think the team championship really shows the best team not the driver championship won with maybe the best car.

Did Tommy just say "There COULD have been moments where the Red Bull was the 3rd best car"?????? It's been 3rd best for a while now mate, and has even been 4th best on occasion. Red Bull has been slower than McLaren AND Ferrari at pretty much every race since the summer break

Had a listen to Crofty for about 3 minutes, and even when praising Verstappen or maybe because of it, I got tired of his BS. It's boring, doesn't make a point and makes a 180 on all he's said before. Skipped to Tommy, much better, watched til the end

For the fans, if your team takes the constructor championship it's like a consolation prize - actually, it means absolutely nothing but you can brag about it to let you feel a little bit better about the lack of ability from your team and favorite driver to win the drivers championship title. Ask me, I am a Mercedes fan.

@@madeovstarstuff I know that, you know that, the F1 community the teams, and drivers know that, but that's not the point. For fans, the result and the excitement is the driver's championship. Although everyone knows the real deal and the prize is the money connected to the constructor's championship the prestige is connected to the driver's championship and that outcome is all everyone ever remembers.
