This is very wise of you. Because just as you said, young girls are very impressionable and vulnerable. But also, you deserve some amount of privacy. Just because you're on social media doesn't mean people can just ask you whatever and expect you to answer.

I struggled for years, obsessing over numbers, even though the number didn’t really ever change. It just wasn’t what I wanted to see, and my body didn’t reflect what I wanted to see either. After more years of unlearning this, and slowly fighting to be liberated of this plague that gets girls and women, I stopped trying. And weight and fat shed from me when I found a sport I loved to do. I worked hard to improve and only found fun and passion. As I progressed, I reached goals I’d fought for years ago and never achieved. Eventually I even surpassed my goals and reached new heights. I would give a lot to have been this happy with my own body when I was younger, but I also would not have understood the struggle if I didn’t go through it. I can help others now, like you are doing.

Bless you for being vigilante for the young women in the community. We are told all our lives to look or behave a certain way, and trust me it doesn’t go away with age, but your resilience will grow over time. Remember: there will only ever be one “you” in the world - treasure yourself the way you’d treasure your dearest friend.

This needs to be shared more. It doesn’t matter how much a person weighs, if they are healthy and happy. Some people, like myself, have a medical condition causing them to lose or gain massive amounts of weight. There are plenty of dancers who are plus size, and there are plenty of non-dancers who are size 00. What matters is being healthy. I’ve suffered with an ED, and a medically induced problem. Here is the scary thing, people look at me, as a very overweight person, and can’t understand that I am at my heaviest when my body won’t accept food. I have gastroparesis, and my weight increases when I am all but starving. Going on crazy diets can backfire and cause weight gain. I am glad someone is taking time to say that being skinny isn’t the end all be all. Find ways to love your body, where you are at, and if you can’t, please seek help from a therapist and dietitian.

You are a very wise woman Lori. Thank you for always educating the people that watch your videos. I have also learnt a lot from you. Just yesterday l told my mom that to weigh herself daily is injustice to herself. Each person is different and depending on your health, how you eat, you can have water rentention or maybe be lean but have muscle weight. So you might just become despondent if you check the scale daily and see you are a bit up or down depending if you need to pick up or lose weight. How ones body is built also plays a huge role. I am a pear shape & could never really wear my sister's clothes although l weighed less than them. I have always been shown to be overweight, obese on those public scales you get in the malls. Way back when l weighed 52kg as a teenager at 1,66cm height. While l was so skinny, healthy. ♡ I applaud you for not showing the names of the young ladies that sent you the questions re weight.

You’re an inspiration. I’m not a dancer, but as a young girl disordered thinking really tore my life apart. It’s such a slippery slope you don’t realize you’ve gone down until you’re at the bottom. It was never enough, I was never happy until I actually worked through my disorder. If anyone else finds themself in that place, please at least tell your doctor. You can get through this.

Very well said. Thank you for being mindful of the mental health issues that can be connected to food and weight, especially in a world where body shapes and sizes are judged so harshly. Some instructors forget that you need sufficient energy and strength to endure 6+ hours of dancing every day. If a dancer is starving, they are trying to work through the brain fog while also lacking the physical energy needed to dance safely. It is a disaster waiting to happen. 😢

WEIGHT IS RELATIVE.. HEALTH MATTERS!!!! Weight doesn't mean anything. BMI IS BULL!! Muscle mass in comparison to fat mass does matter. Plus, you have organs and bones too. Some people have smaller bones and some bigger and denser which makes them healthier. Thanks for reading my rant😂❤ Love you 🫶

Thank you, a million times thank you. My daughter was a young girl when she became anorexic. She permanently lost her ability to dance well, even after recovery. She has osteoporosis (brittle bones) and multiple heart conditions. She was diagnosed at 13 yo. She lost her passion. In treatment they were often reminded that their value and their worth is not determined by numbers- not the number on the scale, the size of your clothes or the number on your report card, any more than your worth is determined by your shoe size. You are worth more than any number.❤

I think you handle these matters of weight, body image, etc. with a lot of grace and thoughtfulness. The questions featured in this video seem okay, but I've seen a lot of awfully hostile "concern" about your body in other comments, and I'm sure it can be difficult to be under that kind of constant scrutiny and suspicion. I don't know much about ballet, but from everything I've seen you conduct yourself as a brilliant ambassador.

Thank you for taking the higher ground and doing the morally right thing, Lori!! It is something often not seen on social media, where everything is publicised so freely without concern about the impact it has, especially on young impressionable people who are statistically at higher chances of developing an ED (I say this while in steady recovery) You truly are a role model who has helped me get more interested in movement as an adult in a balanced way, because it makes me feel good rather than wanting to lose weight. Every time I take a break from work to stretch my hips I think of your warm-ups 😂 But thank you for just being a wholesome light ✨️ and you deserve privacy for personal matters like weight, even if so much of your life is public. Thanks for sharing what you do ❤❤

I wish more dancers and instructors would promote sports nutrition. From a physical standpoint, ballet is a sport. If you are striving to make the national team in running or volleyball or anything else, seeing a sports nutritionist is logical part of your overall training to help you learn to fuel your body optimally so you can achieve your very best performance. If you want to be a professional dancer, why wouldn’t you do the same?

I’m glad all those young people are looking up to you. You are doing a great job with that responsibility!
