What's the difference in pay between a court interpreter and a medical interpreter? I've searched and searched for an answer, but all I can find is that court interpreters earn more, however I haven't been able to find specifically how much more, or at least even an idea of how much more. It's been very frustrating.Thank you.

Hey gracias for the info! :-) How on earth does one become a federal level interpreter?? Lol. I'm trying to become either a translator or interpreter for Spanish. I'm pretty good at basic conversational Spanish but I'm trying to make a living for myself and I have no degree so I'm seeing this as a possible way out to at least get on my feet! And I know the specialization is where the money is at... So I'm not certified, not exactly fluent yet but working on it and I'd like to do legal or court interpretation... It can feel overwhelming on this new track but it's something I'm good at so I want to stick with it and see how far I can go and get back on my feet ya know. And do you recommend any particular certification? I really appreciate the information miss, thank you

Glad you enjoyed the video welcome. So to become a Federal interpreter go to the website in the state you live in: www.uscourts.gov/services-forms/federal-court-interpreters. Keep practicing terminology in the field that interest you legal, medical, get the ACEBO books very helpful, work on grammar read as much as you can get a mentor and shadow other interpreters. Look out for more videos coming soon!

Can you have a full time job by being an interpreter? or would you recommend having two careers?
@ieatgremlins4 жыл бұрын
Hi! I am planning to enroll in an interpreter program. I found two good programs, one from a private institute, one from SF state university. The university program is almost twice as long as the institute. They’re basically the same price. I don’t really mind spending more time in school if it will help me be a better interpreter and also become a more attractive candidate for potential employees. Do you think there is a preference for university programs over an institute? I would really appreciate your help with this as I don’t know anyone working in this field.

Thank you for the information!♥️ I hope you can address my comment!!! I’m truly interested in becoming a court interpreter (Spanish). I live in Texas. I know training can be extensive and I’m sure a bit pricy. However, never mind these two concerns, my main one would be... to actually find a job after my hard work.

Hi Elizabeth lots of luck with you becoming a Spanish interpreter in Texas! As far as you finding a job that will all depend on you and the amount of work in your area. I must say that this field has changed due to COVID-19 but the need is still there we need to see what the new norm will be.

So medical interpreting makes a decent amount? How is having a certificate helpful?
@elsagonzalez31644 жыл бұрын
Hi welcome, so having a certificate always helps to show that you have some training depending on where you live and where you will be working may vary. I am certified both medical and legal some jobs do not require but it has help open doors to say that I have a certification. Call local agencies and ask how much they pay if you are certified to get a better idea, good luck!

Hi! :) if you get hired as a full time interpreter, do you need to be at the court waiting for the next moment they’ll need you or do you only need to be available full time? Also, do the courts really hire full time or do they mostly pay people hourly?

Awesome video! This was so informative! I needed this! However, do you know by any chance if there is a significant difference in salaries between being a court interpreter and medical interpreter? I plan on becoming a Medical Interpreter and I'm trying to search online about salaries but I cannot find anything that seems that reliable. Is there anything medical related at the federal level for interpreting? Also I cannot whatsoever find any information about interpreting opportunities outside the US (particularly in Spanish-speaking countries). Do you have any info/resources that could be useful in helping me determine anything about foreign opportunities? Thank you so much!!
@exactospanishinterpretersl88705 жыл бұрын
Hi Austin welcome! There is a difference in salary not only in medical and legal but it mostly depends on what City/State you are in and how busy you are. Example: meaning the demand do hospitals in your area require a certified interpreter? If you get a legal certification in most cities it is accepted for both legal and medical. I have both certifications but legal has always open more doors including medical. As far as salaries it does depend on your city if you are working through an agency or directly for a hospital, that you have to look into maybe indeed can help. As far as federal level for medical I am not aware, my advise would be is get certified in both legal and medical, like I said my legal has opened more doors in my State then anything else and then get medical. Lot's of luck! I started in NY making 3digits high demand in legal moved to NJ after 911 and still made decent money but took a while to make 3 digits, so do you're homework and don't give up.

@@SeanDonrad1Hi Sean, there are so many companies now with this industry growing each day more and more but it also does depend if you are looking for telephonic work which pays much less but you can do it as a side job, try CLI or Language Line, for on site you have to check what is available where you live!
