I'm impressed with what you did on building the motor build with pinning and welding the fly Wheels. Changing the compensating sprocket and changing over to a chain drive was a smart move to handle that HP and torque. If you going to build a performance motorcycle do it right or don't do it at all. It's a beautiful bike.

Awesome breakdown John. Those CVO’s are truly amazing and certainly unique but at the same time, they aren’t as complete as a custom build as you just described and explained very well. I’ll stick with my old-man TC88 (2003 FLHTCI) because it’s what I enjoy putting around without scorching tires and burning up the pavement. Too old for that anymore but still absolutely love what you did. Stay safe and hope to meet up at some point when you guys travel this year.

Fantastic finished product. Im in your camp and always have been in my Harley purchases. CVOs are beautiful and come with all the bells and whistles but the problem is it’s the same bells and whistles that every other CVO has. Building yourself does end up at the same price point but it’s a 1 of a kind. Doing just a stage 2 on a 114 you will walk a cvo all day and a custom paint job can be had for obviously less than yours cuz that’s crazy top of the line work but still be incredible.

She’s a beauty. No doubt about it. If I had to make the choice between buying a new CVO or building a performance rig. I would spend a few extra bucks and build to my taste. By the way, the paint job is spectacular. Much nicer look than the wrap you had which I personally didn’t like that much. Good luck with her. Be safe out there. It’s becoming a bloody nightmare riding in the cities these days.

I have a 2020 SGS. The first thing I did for performance was install the Kraus inverted front end with fly Moto bars and install some Ohlins on the rear. Because performance is not all about the motor. Also installed Feuling oil pump camplate and lifters and the Feuling crank breather. The motor is staged 2 with an after market breather and Bassani mid length exhaust. Still have the Harley tuner. If I upgrade the motor some more will install a TTS tuner. Will probably add Berringer brakes and rotors. If your lucky enough to have the money there is so much you can do. It's addicting. Good Vid I enjoyed it.

The big difference is the blue book on the cvo will book out very high when selling it . Your bike is great and I have done this before ,but when you sell they give you very little for all the upgrades. The banks loan money on the value in the blue book . Yours is very special and you have to sell it to someone that will appreciate all that .

John, nice build, great content with tons of info. Silver Back is worth every dollar. Your numbers are spot on. I have a 2018 SGS with another $44,938 in parts and labor on top of the cost of the bike. The difference being in a Kraus KRT Inverted Front End Kit at $6,800 plus $2,190 in Beringer Radial Calipers all the way around (add those items up & they come out to $9,000.Subtract that from $45,000 that would have put me at $36,000)and in lieu of the custom paint I have $4,575 in BST carbon fiber wheels and $2,000 of Fusion Ceramic Coating for entire stock bike plus coating on all new applicable parts off the bike prior to installing (comparable in cost to your $6,000 in paint). All that makes for a night and day difference over stock. Every month & every year there are more and more big performance builds getting completed . I finished mine in July 2021. Patience is key guys. Plan on 6 to 9 months for a big build. John get ready for lots of questions whenever you go where there are large numbers of enthusiasts

It's perfect!! I would rather have your custom HD Road Glide instead of a CVO because it's a one-of-a-kind! Personally, I would never sell it or trade it because to me it's priceless and it's BEAUTIFUL!!!! There's just one downside to a custom bike. What is it worth on the used market or as a trade? @tax905972 Жыл бұрын
Other issue, a CVO is a factory bike so it’s value remains intact. Their also limited . Their protected with the warranties. You can also get the extended warranty while the bike is under 12 years or 75,000 miles. God forbid you total it, you will only get the value of the bike before the upgrades, plus maybe $3,000 , unless you had the insurance company reappraise the bike with the new options which will cost you .
@michaelofiara97322 жыл бұрын

Awesome design & execution of the build. Impressive torque (156) & power (154hp) from the 130 cu. in. Stage-4. One upgrade I can think [with the power level] would be a beefy (stronger) transmission [re: Baker], just for additional piece of mind, reliability (although stock trans. if fine, dependent on how ridden, etc.). Weight reduction by going with carbon fiber wheels, expensive but significant weight savings. Audio upgrades? Although the sound of the 130" engine through the Khrome Werks exhaust system is sweet (and looks awesome in the dark chrome finish). Magnificent bike that can be ridden anywhere, anytime without issues. Tom M. Hawthorne Ca. '21 RGS (Snake Venom, Black Pkg.) & '06 CVO V-Rod (Red, 6k orig. miles).

My 2019 RGS performance bagger cost me $62,000 after all said and done but only worth $12,000 Blue book value. Just like customizing a car. Don't get upset if you try to trade in and they only offer Blue Book value no matter what you have done to it. Good luck trying to sell it to an individual. Not many buyers out there with that much cash. So if you start to go down this road, take note that you own that bike for a very long time. Stuff ain't going to be covered under insurance either but there companies that offer extended warranty on everything on the bike. DON'T FORGET TO INCLUDE LABOR when estimating building it out.

Not being a "Harley guy" doesn't stop me from loving this build. Been watching it evolve for over a year now, well done... Silverback is all Show and Go! 😎. I'm mostly an off-road rider, but I do have a lightly customized 13 Victory Cross Country stored in the bike shed that's in need of a new Power Commander or some other tuner atm. Its very solid and in great condition for its 72k miles, I keep tossing around the idea of putting $10-12k into the bike to make it awesome but its an older bike, Victory is gonzo and I don't do all that much road riding... just can't decide on this. Until I do, I'll watch others' builds... Got pop over to Holy Shift now and finish watching Sandy do that stage 2 cam install ;)

Hi John……. I would have gone in a different direction and probably saved money over what you came up with the 58,000 and change. First the 2021 road glide CVO goes for 41,400. I would not have bought the Road glide special I would just have bought the Road glide standard. I would’ve done all the changes you did to the bike but I would’ve added one more thing. I would’ve added Advantage Black stretch bags & dominator rear fender and then did everything that you did which would’ve been the same cost you spent. The way it’s would be cheaper you bought a road glide standard at 20,000 and change instead of spending 22,000 like you said. But back then in 2020 the 20,000 standard would’ve been cheaper than probably $21,000. I don’t know how much this way of building it would’ve saved but I suspect you’ve spent probably about 5000 or so less overall.

Going this route instead of CVO, you can also do it over time as well...where as the CVO you are dropping BIG BUCKS on it right out of the gate. Also, everything you did to this, I would still be wanting to do to the CVO minus the controls and paint....so there is still a SIGNIFICANT investment even after the cost of the CVO. The only negative thing is that we all dont have that badass engine builder nearby that is going to stand up for his work so that search can be significant as well and there is also the 4-6 month wait time to build it all...
@redrider01512 жыл бұрын
@@CYCLEFANATIX I always laugh when someone says "But your return on investment when you trade this in will be horrible compared to a CVO"...when at the same time they are investing an extra 15 grand for the CVO right out the gate...and you get the same zero return on all the aftermarket stuff you put on the CVO :D At least with this, you can sell private party and do just fine (if and when someone decides to let go) Thats the other thing, the more personal you make your bike, the less the likelihood of you wanting to let it go anyhow....(this is why I simply slapped an S&S motor into my 2015 and kept it vice trading it in on my 2021....) The margin that Harley is pulling on those CVO's is simply INSANE...little different paint scheme, little different wheels, 2 extra speakers and an amp, and different Harley foot controls...extra 15-20 grand!! they are laughing all the way to the bank...IMHO...

The paint job is nice, suspension upgrades are good, bars, wheels, all that stuff is cool. But anyone who buys a HD for performance is nuckin futs. Any 750 rice rocket can run circles around a stock HD. So you put $5000.00 plus into the engine and guess what, any 750 rice rocket will still run circles around you. If I wanted performance I would keep the engine stock and take the $5000.00 and go buy a good used !000cc rice rocket, and then I'd have my long distance hauler and a performance bike.

Brother, if you ever get tired of Silverback, just make more room in the garage and keep it if for no other reason, for nostalgia purposes! This build is about as perfect as a bike build might be… personal preference, I might do away with running boards and go with forward controls… I have never been a fan of running boards or heel shifters! Lol. Bro, I think you’re done, no need to make it anymore hotrod than it is, it seems very rideable, and not a NASCAR you’re trying to take to the grocery store….. yet I think it’s still in that space to take comfortably on a 600, 700 mile road trip, am I wrong?! An absolute show quality bike, but you could take it out and run an Iron Butt Gold; I would! What air cleaner are you running? I also looked on Khrome Werks and didn’t see the black chrome exhaust…. Is that a one off special build for your bike? Get that bike on the cover of Baggers magazine!
