Next will be good to talk about higher compression with E85 tune. why a lot of builder doing 10.5.1 or 9.5 Vs low compression on E85. Also why if you go higher compression you need to watch out for regular gas because knocking. Just something for good tuning talk. Thanks joe for all your videos.

A knock box with head phones is the best if its accurate.i used one once and it was amazing how much more comfortable i felt pushing the motor .

When you reach knock is it typical to then increase fuel (check knock/power), if no knock advance timing, repeat until power increases are minimal or until knock or decrease in power is seen? I imagine with pump the limitation is knock so you’d try to hold off knock with more fuel until it can’t be avoided or the gains are super minimal. Not sure if that’s reality when actually on the dyno.

Another great video! Timing is what i fight with the most on my car. And without knock sensors its kind of guessing game. Ive ramped it up to 23 degrees at 5500 down to 16 degrees over the years. But a usually stay at the safer guess.

I would be interested to mess with an external knock monitor. I've got Bosch flat response knock sensors setup with my ECU, but I have never done any audible listening which seems valuable like you mentioned vs. looking at a graph/log. Honestly surprised it was only down 30hp with 10 degrees. Do you think the difference in power would grow if you did the test at a higher boost level?

Very minimal honestly. You can swing it +/- 10 degrees and see no change, or very minimal change a lot of the time

@@JoeSimpsonAtTempest obviously a street car runs part throttle 90%+ of the time. it would be interesting to see how much advance could be dialled in on smaller throttle openings. it also determines how a car feels on the road ie lazy or responsive.
