You mentioned that a higher-quality imported food might be more expensive. But I would say that Lithuanians perceive that a lot of foreign products are worse quality than the Lithuania production. (I don't say that it's better or not, but that's how people perceive it). That's why on so many products you have the Lithuanian flag saying "pagaminta Lietuvoje" because it is like a quality sign. A good 15 years ago, or even a bit more, it started some kind of craziness about the "natural food" and people would be reading the etiquettes of every single food product to check whether there are any artificial preservatives or flavours and the food industry reacted accordingly creating massively food products with no or very few artificial components and promoting it as a "good and natural Lithuanian production". I remember, my first time living abroad was in Spain, and the first time when I came to a Spanish supermarket (it was the good old MERCADONA!) and I started to read etiquettes, I was frustrated because I didn't know what to buy, as all of the products had so many different artificial components :D :) . The ecological sections had not been so widespread yet. If you pay attention, Lithuanian production can even sometimes be more expensive than the foreign one. It's always the case with Polish production, but also with other foreign products recently. The only thing that is really clearly cheaper would be the fruits and vegetables, I think? And a more expensive foreign brands are basically the posh brands, I would say?

From a volunteer perspective getting no more than 250 eur/month, when accommodation (+/- food) is provided, I would say it would still be possible to survive here, but not to splurge for sure😅

Hello and thank you for the video. Correct, in Lith we don't say "bedrooms", we just say "rooms". 2 rooms apartment, 3 room, 4 room, 5 room - not bedrooms. Because they don't have to be the actual bedrooms for sleeping. If we would tell to a local person (in our language) that an apartment in post-communism multifloor has 3 bedroom [triju miegamuju butas], he could be confused for a while 🙂 When we buy houses or flats, no 1 cares what you will put in each room - a bed or a couch with tv. Also, one room apartment is not really a studio. We have studios, too. Studio is one (1) space with no inner walls except for toilet. And 1 room apartment will have these: separated entrance, separate kitchen with walls and a door, separated toilet and bath, sometimes a walk-thru space called "hall" and then the actual living room. Balcony, too. It is absolutely not a studio! I used to live for few months in a studio in Northern Ireland. I know what studio is. These one-room apartments in Lithuania are WAY better than just a studio. Personal experience 🙂

I was an erasmus student in vilnius nine years ago in 2013. And lithuania used to use litas. I am from Türkiye 1 litas was equals to 0,75 türkish liras 9 years ago and it means ı could buy one beer for 1 türkish liras. As your saying one beer is like 3 euros the chipest one it means at least 50 türkish liras. What happened to Lietuva and the Türkiye 1 beer got up 50 times. I am very very shcokking it cant be real for sure!

Definitely. Sharing an apartment and living a little bit further away from the city centre are easy ways to reduce monthly expenses.

I think the best bet is to work IT in Vilnius or Kaunas and live in a refurbished commie block apartment, good wages and a nice apartment that doesn't cost as much as the new modern ones. That's my plan.
