Good video. At the time of me writing this, I've played just under 48 hours of Elden Ring. I can confirm that later areas of the game can require more power to run correctly. From my friend and my experience, there seems to be something going on with GPU power and more GPU power allows you to at least brute force through the issues. We think that part of the problem is the trees, because they always seem to be moving like there is a strong wind, regardless of the weather condition. To give some context, I'm using a Ryzen 3700X with an RTX 3070, and running at 1440p at max settings, and have very few stutters (game will sometimes crash). My friend is running a similar CPU with an RTX 2060 and they lowered the settings (forget what they currently have it set to) at 1080p. My friend experiences more stutters and crashes than I do (by a fairly significant amount). We also have noticed a trend that performance seems to take a greater hit when playing with online enabled. We are not sure why that performance difference matters in offline vs online, but have found it to be more stable in the offline state.

Interesting, I too have a 2060 but I play at 1440p high and have not experienced a single crash, stutters sure and at one time a hard stutter where the game time had to speed up to catch up. But for this was wasted money. I can’t stress it, It’s last time i buy a game ported from console. You really shouldn’t bother porting a game from a console to PC if you can’t do a proper port. And this is one of those games. Console and PC gamers is two totally different things. And they havent put a single thaught into how they could optimize the ui just somewhat for keyboard/mouse.

3090 going over 90% utilization to hit 60 FPS. Yep, nothing strange going on there. But seriously, you tested this in a particular area/viewing angle that suffers from horrible GPU utilization bugs. Something in these areas is requiring like 5x more from the GPU than it should, but then most other places require significantly less to hold 60, and previous titles have very similar graphical fidelity while easily holding 60 on toasters. It shouldn't simply be about "rendering a bit more while looking this way" when it's suddenly spiking GPU utilization by 99999%. There's no way it's not bugged. I pray somebody somewhere finds a fix.

I must have seriously lucked out because I have literally none of the issues commonly reported with this game running on a 3070 and i9-10900k. Most of the issues sound like it's more how the game is loading assets on the fly (mainly the stuttering) so I'm assuming running this game off an nvme and 64GB of ram is why I haven't had these issues and would make soooo much sense if that was the reason why many people are running into that issue. To be fair, if that *IS* what the issue is, the devs shouldn't assume people are running high amounts of ram and on a fast storage device. But other than that, using rivatuner, I haven't seen more than ~80-85% utilization on my 3070 so a 3090 literally should have no issues - tis some weird as hell bugs xD

The Alder Lake IPC is much stronger than the i5-8400 and the i5-6500 is much WEAKER due to no HT and MHz speeds. Without a way to FORCE the game to ONLY use the e-core (you can't disable all p-cores) the easiest way to test this is just to disable the e-cores and select the correct amount of p-cores at the correct clock speeds. Jay would have to use ProcessLasso and configure it to only use the e-cores for the games and it STILL would not be accurate.

In my experience, memory bandwidth does affect the performance on this game. Can be verified by using something like an i7-4770 with DDR3. CPU and GPU (GTX 1060) do not bottleneck and are stuck waiting on the RAM.

Oh, interesting. Running RX 6600 and 4690K. With Slow Ass DDR3. GPU and CPU waiting absolutely fits. They are both not fully utilized in this Game. In a few Weeks, this should work fine i guess. You may be lucky, or you may just have lower standards than most, which isn't a slant at you. To be honest, without trying to sound elitest, even if the game ran at a max locked 60 fps in all areas, it still wouldn't be "smooth" to me after I've spent the better part of ~7 years playing every time at a locked 1440p 165hz. It's a noticeably worse experience in my eyes, and it's pretty unacceptable for a game in 2022 from a studio with this level of success. It's sadly just the way Japanese game studios operate. They have a smaller PC market, although Capcom has committed to boosting it's market share to 50% PC by the end of the year, so the next Monster Hunter game is sure to be an absolute hit on PC, and they just don't care about pushing low tier performance, aging engines, and dated fidelity to market. Just look at freaking Nintendo's latest offers. Pokemon Arceus, for how decent the gameplay is and how refreshing the entry into the series is, looks worse than a Wii game from circa 2007 and tanks to single digit fps when you're riding around on the water.

Great vid, but just wanted to point out that when you "emulate" the 8700k (around 12 mins in), it's actually a i7-8700k, not i5-8700k like you stated.

So the Tree Sentinel area is definitely the one with the most stutters but going further into the game, they don't happen quite as often and don't seem to last as long. Thinking it's because that area breaks off to 3 more of them which is going to be rough for a traditionally closed type of game.

I've seen some pretty harsh frame stutters running a Ryzen 9 5900x processor, GTX3080, and 64gigs of DDR 3600. It's always a one and done thing where once the shaders/ textures are loaded things zip right along, but it just goes to show that no matter how much hardware you throw at something...money can't solve all your problems. I'm sure part of this is tied to the 'online' nature of the game features as well - would be interesting to see if there was an appreciable difference with online play disabled.

i7-9700, gtx 980 ti, 32gb RAM - was surprised the game actually ran on my PC. FPS varies a lot, from 30-60 fps (high settings, 1080p) depending on the area and what's happening, but it's definitely very playable. Hopefully future patches optimize the game even more!

I'm rocking a Ryzen 7 3700X still paired with a 6 GB GTX 1060 for obvious reasons. 16 GB of RAM, Elden Ring is installed on an nvme SSD. Game holds stable 60 FPS in 1080p with most settings on high, some set to maximum. Didn't notice any drops, any freezes or anything. Smooth experience. I'm also a keyboard/mouse player in both Dark Souls and Elden Ring, so no artificial smoothing because of controller-based slower camera movement. My brother, on the other hand, has a Ryzen 5 1600, a GTX 1660 SUPER and 24 gigs of RAM. Runs great (meaning constant 60 FPS) in maxed out settings at 1080p, frames only go down a bit when he streams the game via Discord for me to watch. Elden Ring is great. Nothing more to say hahah

Intel I7-7700K at 4.4 GHz, RAM rock solid stable at 2700 MHz (down from 3200 MHz, it was not stable enough at 3200, did not crash or anything, but not stable enough for Elden Ring or Fallout 4) GTX1070 at 82% Power 75 degrees Celsius limit, running Medium Shadows, everything else on High at 1440P, and it dithers at 54-59 Hz, I have a FPS limit in place, so it can not go higher.

Its not just a console port; they truly want an equal experience for everyone, and in a game like this with framerates tied to gameplay, it would be a big advantage if you had more frames, dodge timing, healing timing, atack timing would be wasier ar 120 fps.

“I’m gonna go fight that guy” Yeah I did the same thing for hours before moving on and going somewhere else lol.

You should had gotten the horse, 5 minutes out of the tutorial cave. Stutter gets worse if you ride around fast. 🤔

I was thinking about not getting Elden ring because i thought my pc was outdated to play it. I have a rx 480 4gb with i5-6500. I decided to pull the trigger and hope for the best and was pleasantly surprised. I do not have an overlay or anything like that but I have been playing on 1080p on high settings. It is enjoyable and looks decent. I did however go back to my 1080 monitor instead of even trying my 1440. TLDR This game will run with older hardware.

my brother in law got elden ring to run on his i7-2600 and a gtx 770 (you have to do a direct x file change in the folder but the tutorials are up on youtube) i saw people getting playable experiences with an i5-2400, 8gb ram, and a gt 1030. you don't need a lot of gaming pc to play it.

Fps isn’t capped due to being a console port. 60fps is the sweet spot for the combat keyframing. More fps would be making this game almost impossible to learn timing. It’s a balance thing

no 1080/1440 120 fps? I don't care as much with resolution now because I'm very comfortable with the size of my 21"-24" monitors. Any increase in resolution is not likely to be as impactful as even just 90fps locked in terms of gaming performance, hence why I'm sticking to 1080 for a really long time.

You can play a modern game with a 6 year old card. If that doesn't perfectly sum up the state of the market right now. I remember the point of time in the 10 series lifespan when videos no longer tested it to 9 series cards. Now we've got 3000 series out and we're still checking performance from 2 generations ago.

Over 400 hours into this game with 1070 ftw, Ryzen 7 2700 and 32gig of ram on 144mhz msi 27 inch. Runs like a champ!
