Cut to 99% of the comments saying "Okay but now do Dark Story," when Traitor literally said "I'm never doing anything like this ever again"
@TARDISES2 ай бұрын
Plus logically the challenge would fail *instantly.* Iron Gate is an Eggman stage, and Tails demonstrated why that would be an instant failure. Plus... let's be real here, it's not worth it because Rouge has *all* the truly annoying hunting stages. Egg Quarters with that beetle. Security Hall with the time limit. Mad Space with the reversed hints, gravity gimmick and, most relevantly, *it's mostly empty space*
@amethysttvgl16012 ай бұрын
@TARDISES I personally would love to see how he'd overcome the challenges in the more open and gimmicky stages. On the other hand though I completely understand why he wouldn't want to touch mad space without moving with a ten foot pole 😂.
@usrnmntavlibl26662 ай бұрын
Yeah but dark story.
@MarioMastar2 ай бұрын
@@amethysttvgl1601 Probably at least worth theory crafting what's possible. Not spending the months proving it but just maybe seeing if there's a spot where you get softlocked. Shadow doesn't have the bounce bracelet so thus no super bounce, and IIRC, the gravity cylinders in Final Chase are a softlock, but the other stages are probably doable (though not so sure about Sky rail due to the layout of the stage, but hey, Shadow DOES have Ancient light). As for Rouge's stages, I'm sure like Aquatic mine, there's probably a layout that lets her grab everything, but IIRC, one of Security Hall's emeralds are always in a safe so that would make that pretty much impossible even with unlimited time, and of course, one of Rouge's stages is Route 280, which is harder than route 101 and has open sections you can fall out so it'd be impossible anyway. But if just Dry lagoon (debatably impossible but I don't know all the emerald layouts), Egg Quarters (probably as easy as Death Chamber since it IS easier than Death Chamber due to the stage being a giant ring), and MAYBE Mad Space if you're patient enough. Alas, I don't think Flying Dog would be possible since he never lowers himself and Rouge can't get high enough to hit him, and I'm not sure Egg Golem is either (theoretically he is but I think he'll destroy the platform you're standing on before you can expose the bombs in him).

What a crazy challenge! I remember when I completed City Escape without the joystick and it was already annoying as fuck, I would NEVER consider going through hell with the whole story lmao I loved some of the solutions you came up with for the Sonic stages, and god damn the Knuckles ones took an amount of dedication I wasn't prepared to see, huge congrats on those. Egg Golem's solution was just genius, I wasn't expecting that at all, but that Final Rush segment omfg, that shit is proof that god rewards our efforts. What an amazing surprise this video was, I had no clue this was being worked on and had a blast watching it! I'll TAS PC and CG in the future if no one manages to complete those in the meantime, I'm confident I can complete PC, but I'll have to analyse CG first to be sure about it.
@Traitor12 ай бұрын
Thank you Brian! It was absolutely a passion project of mine. My favorite part of speedrunning had always been routing so when I decided on doing a challenge I thought I should do one I know no one else had routed before. It's also the main reason I kept everyone in the dark about the progress of this challenge (no streams or comments about what I was completing or getting stuck on) because I wanted to see what I personally could achieve and if I'm being honest it was a lot more than I ever expected! A little behind-the-scenes secret about Final Rush: Originally when I wrote the script, FR only got to the very beginning segment of the platforming gauntlet. For some reason, months after I thought I was done, I decided I would head back into final rush and I would grind it until I got a more satisfying end. I don't regret that decision one bit hahaha That would be amazing Brian I hope you figure out some ways to pass PC and CG! Something major about moving with Sonic I discovered was that if you jumped and then bounced very quickly after you could consistently get sonic to turn left (I'm not entirely sure why this is). This slight skewing was major in allowing FR to be possible and made much of CG as simple as it was RTA (though simple still means it took hours). In one attempt I was able to use that to get sonic to land on the red block. I'm not sure if that will help you out with CG but I figured that info might lead to something! Best of luck I'll be really excited to see what you come up with!
@brianpso2 ай бұрын
@@Traitor1 Yeah it makes sense now why you kept it a secret, and thank god you came back for FR, that clip alone is already something we know nobody else will ever be able to pull off again lol Yeah I'm aware of the bounce thing, that's a what creates a tasbounce! But in a tasbounce you do that with speed to gain more speed over and over again. We still don't know why it happens, but I hope we figure that out in the future. I'll do my best to complete both stages, but for now the only one I'm confident about it PC, although with the amount of tricks we have I think I can find a way through CG's ending.

42:10 "saved on slot 0" I'm not against saved states at all! But your script so far was about how long things took, being relieved getting to checkpoints, and retrying with those, so I'm a little disappointed you weren't upfront with this tid bit. It's ok though, do what you gotta do!
@Traitor12 ай бұрын
You are absolutely right, I should have been clear about them! In the original script I brought it up in the middle of the intro but was told to remove it because, when talking about how I would use them, the restrictions I had and the purpose behind them it ended up adding 2ish minutes. I still think it was the right idea to remove it since it did not affect the difficulty or results of the challenge but I should have spent the time rerecording some segment of the voice over and adding it in later. Also to be clear: despite hitting save state in Crazy Gadget there, I never loaded the savestate. But I remember in that moment I was definitely panicking about whether I would have to do that insanely monotonous setup again or not. Now that I'm writing this out and checked the footage to make sure I wasn't lying to myself, I could have just removed talking about the rules and just mentioned it was only used in Metal Harbor and Final Rush to skip the extra long deaths... Those being the white fadeout that happens when time runs out at the rocket for Metal Harbor and the really really long fall before you hit a killplane in Final Rush. You can actually see how it was used to skip the death and teleport me back to the checkpoint at 8:16 ! tl;dr I should have brought up that savestates were used in Metal Harbor and Final Rush as a "quick death" function to avoid wasting time just watching sonic fall to the killplane. Thank you for your comment and I hope this clarifies how the savestate was used in the challenge!

A challenge run? Check. Mind melting difficulty? Check. Practiced screen presence? Check. My favorite series? BIG check. Oh yeah. That's a sub from me dawg.

Thank you jpet I'm glad you enjoyed it so much! It really was a wild challenge and probably one of my biggest achievements in Sonic Adventure 2!

Please continue your speedrun tutorials! They were incredibly helpfull and made this game. The first game I've ever tried to learn a speedrun (especially because you give beginner as. Well as pro strats). Great video as always, glad to see a new video, keep up the great work!
@Traitor12 ай бұрын
Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I definitely have the speedrun tutorials on my to do list! The only thing left is knuckles but the script for that is longer than the script for this video so it will take me some time to make 😅

@@Traitor1 oh I bet! take all the time my man the videos are worth it! If I can ask, for big knuckles/rouge levels like mad space and meteor herd, is still better to memorise every location or just say 75% and hope you get lucky (if say your memory isn't so great xD) thanks!
@Traitor12 ай бұрын
@@misterphill1701 I would say to begin with, learning the most common ones is all you need! When I first started running I memorized very little. If there was a piece I never saw before I would go out of my way to remember the piece for the future and over time that's how I learned all of the pieces!

This is the type of challenge that makes me really appreciate the tiny details. I never would have been able to guess that Knuckles automatically targets enemies when he punches.

Hello! I'm here cuz the algorithm. Never saw you before anywhere. I think this challenge is stupid, but I still respect you for being able to do so much. I subscribed. You deserve it

The Egg Golem quicksand pulley was my favorite solution. That boss fight was kinda hype. Why is Ancient Light so wild though? I'm always terrified to use it near edges. Anyways great video, absolutely insane stuff.

Not gonna lie, this seems like it would be more interesting as a tas challenge than rta. It's more puzzle and less rng at that point. To be clear, I am extremely impressed at what you did, just saying that now I wanna see someone TAS this as a challenge tas xD

Anyone who plays the Steam version using a Keyboard is by definition not using the analog stick. That being said, this is still a good video.

Yo wait you dont even have 4k subs? Criminal. If you ever come up with more challenges I love these kinds of videos, but I'll stick around even for the other speedrunning stuff. Commenting and liking for the engagement, hope it helps!
