How much power is our S54 Z3M Coupe making?
After owning the Z3M Coupe for a few months we were curious how much power it was making after all these years. It seems fairly well cared for, and Imrans butt dyno is saying its healthy, but lets get it strapped down on the dyno and see what the S54 engine is really doing.

Mine has a carbon airbox, sounds heavier on low rpm’s and more screaming at 4000rpm+ .. it’s a m52 2.8l btw

Should I keep my s52 supercharge engine or swap out for a built s54 that has recently come up?

I have a built S54 in 2002 Z3M with a SMGii swap from a 2001 M3 however I have seen so many people do LS7 (427ci) swaps in the 3 series making huge power, huge powers numbers rather cheaply. Swapping in a e38 (750i v12) differential with minor bushing modification. Forget the transmission they use but thinking it was a T56 6 speed manual but the Z3 are mostly e36 up front under the skin hint the e36/7 but not 100% the same but very close.

I made 381whp and 325tq on a stage 2 AA SC Kit wirh M50 intake mani and everything else stock. I was shooting for 400whp but got lazy in the end. I believe a full exhaust and dyno tune would of gotten me in the 4s.

One thing to note is when all car manufacturers give out HP and torque specs those are at the crank and not wheel horsepower.

Question: isn’t that 322bhp it’s making at the wheels? The quoted 325 from BMW is at the crank I believe. I’m just curious to whether your dyno automatically applies the drivetrain loss percentage and calculates the crank. Otherwise it’s a gorgeous car. Shame we didn’t get that EU spec engine though because our units were way down on power comparatively

Dyno is calculating losses, which is why it says (fly), as it’s crank/flywheel power. USA definitely missed out for the E36 generation.

Healthy numbers, these engines are slightly detuned compared to the E46 m3 ones. Is that dyno the dyno cell you were building at evolve or is it still not finished?

They have a slightly lower rev limit. This is our old dyno, now owned by Dream Automotive. Our cell is making progress again and we hope to have it operational soon!

When bmw said detuned s54 for the m coupe. They put a different exhaust on because they didn’t want it to outshine the m3. Marketing bs. 315 vs. 333
