Someone speaking English as native speaker and switching to perfectly native Finnish mid sentence messes up my head big time. Cool project! Definitely going to follow. Wish you all the best and good luck!

I'm following one Brit-Finn who does the same, but rarer, and it's bit jarring but so fun. :D Same as I watched my favorite foreign band visiting Finland and around them the camera picked Finns speaking and it was absolutely jarring. Hearing Finnish, reading English subtitles and trying to hear their native language to get hints that the subs are leaving out.. :D

I know what you mean! I got used to it as my dad worked for a Finnish company here in the UK for years, and then I did too, and we often had people over from Helsinki (although I never got to go there). Year later, one of my wife's friends is Finnish and especially after a few drinks was in the habit of randomly spouting something in Finnish that she couldn't recall the English idiom for - you got used to waiting for her internal translation to catch up!

Want to get some fish easier? Buy a small (or large) fish trap. Finnish word is katiska. Relatively easy to set up. Check it once a day during a summer so trapped fish won't go bad. Using katiska may require permit from local authorities wh own the lake area.
@PeterErikson-rd5tj3 ай бұрын
What are you going to build for fall and winter? You could build a small starter cabin from vertical logs .Use a thick pitliner plastic to seal it. and put a wood stove it. Lake a trapper cabin but. vertical logs.

30k€ seems like a pretty sweet deal. Good luck and I’ll be following along for sure. 🎉
@jo_nathan_nation65445 ай бұрын
Yeah, but the zoning kind of sucks and probably contributed to the price. You would probably be paying roughly the same thing in the United States in the northern Midwest. I don’t know what their acreage is (my guess is under 5. Probably around 3 tho), but it is smaller and it does not have any easements into the property. Not to mention there is zero utilities and it’s vacant land. $32k for this property is a reasonable price. Something like that in northern MN would be about $40k-$60k but we have an economy crisis and a booming housing market. I just purchased an 20 acre lot on a private lake for $80k. It is a vacant property but it has no zoning restrictions, and it has an easement with full vehicle access. I have 1400’ of shoreline and my own private cove. I can get utilities from the road. So when you take all that into account his price is what I would have expected for a 3 acre island that has several restrictions.

This is going to be fun watching you develop a whole bunch of skills that you don't really have yet, but the is the time of life you are in tight now. I have a couple of suggestions/observations. 1. You don't chop wood with a saw' you fell it, rip it, or buck it, mostly. You were bucking it (cutting across the grain). You only chop wood with a blade, be it an axe, machete, or knife. 2. When you are building something (like that sink stand) remember that you should always make sure to level it and square up the angles at the corners so that the gravitational force of the of the load on it will be directed through the center of the legs to the ground or floor. So, you should have a large speed square on your island. If the legs aren't perpendicular under load, there will be a lateral force which will try to collapse the table into a parallelogram with the opposite side almost touching. 3. Triangles are much harder to collapse than rectangles because. in practice, for any 3 specific sides, there is only one shape they can make. That's why you should put braces between each pair of legs to keep that sink from collapsing in case of significant lateral pressure being applied to it.

Note for choosing the saw: buy a good one. Husqvarna or Stihl lower end professional model. I assume you might have to do a lot of that, and using a crappy saw is yhtä tyhjän kanssa, if you know what I mean. For me it’s definitely been worth the investment.
