I'm very old school mechanic growing up in the 60's and have never heard of using sandblasting to clean a head that needs to be spotlessly clean before assembly. I have used plenty of sandblaster and can say it's almost impossible to get rid of all the materials after sandblasting. It's the same with brake calipers you never use sand or walnuts to clean them. Any old mechanic will tell you that. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for walking us through processes, learning so much, and really enjoying it. Also terrible turn of events, but at the same time, the content is certainly more interesting to watch/follow. Devin, I've been watching you for a few years and have never made a comment ... until now. The qualities you have are admirable and unwavering. I'm not a mechanic or even like working on my old crusty 2007 Honda Accord V-6 but watching you this whole time is like taking automobile classes for FREE. The knowledge and experience you possess and willingly show us is amazing. But the most amazing quality you have, and have shown is your Patience. If I encountered this I would be tossing parts throughout the show for 15 minutes until I would be blue in the face. The example and the one where you sold an EVO to the 18 year who did not know how to drive a stick shift. You took your time and patiently taught him how to drive his brand new EVO. I wish you taught me how to drive my Mustang when I first purchased it. I ended up stalling 17 times by the time I got home. If you have to, take a few days off to gather yourself but don't let this diminish your passion and drive because I'll continue to watch your builds.

This is new to me. I came on the tuning scene in 2004 when I fell in love with Hondas and Nissans. Never heard of sandblasting an engine for this reason. It’s common for this to happen. If you use soda to blast it. It desolves in water. Blocks get shot peened which are balls off steel which are easier to remove. The proper way to clean everything is to remove every plug and clean with oil resolving solution and circular brushes, either nylon or steel brushes to losses up the stuck media and flush it at every angle , every hold with a pressure washer with a 15 degree and 0 degree tip. If. If a valve cover was blasted, it will need to have the baffles removed so it can bd properly cleaned. There are plugs in the blocks and heads that need to be removed. The crank has oil journals that need to be flushed and brushed as well. It’s the engine assemblers job to clean the engine. I have never received any parts from the machine shop cleaned. It is possible to get it cleaned but you have to understand you can see everything the needs cleaning.

Know how you feel! I had a similar situation where i had to do a full engine rebuild 1500 ks in to my fresh motor with HKS parts etc.. I had a knocking sound which was caused by one piston suffering from 4 corner scuffing, however there was no signs of heat or burn marks on the piston to indicate it expanded due to heat, it was suspected that the bottom of the bore wasn't machined.. Machine shop said they have a strict process so it wasnt them. Workshop and HKS said there was no faults in their workmanship or hardware. It was a crap situation, makes you lose trust in almost anyone/everyone. Workshop covered the full cost under warranty. Sometimes people just drop the ball, especially if its a Friday job.

In the upgrade I agree check the Oil feed line of their was no filter have the turbo checked and honestly Id spend the money and upgrade the motor mounts yes it adds vibration i side but it keeps the motor and trans happy with any type of power especially since your going from 200 to 5-600 hp its a major upgrade. I also never heard of using a media blaster to do a cylinder head always used acid baths to clean them. I also wouldn’t cheap on the oil pump just buy a new one as that media likely caused internal damage. Keep going though it will work out.

I’m surprised to hear you hadn’t wet sanded the paint yet. I usually sand if flat with 1500, 3000 and then put down a last coat of lacquer. Rolls Royce finish style. Did the shop that cleaned the head have a response? Did they at least refund the money for the cleaning? If you can get it local G110 is great for cleaning all the rubber and painted parts. I then use the Koch Chemi Motorplast to finish. Keeps the rubber looking fresh.
