For scarves, take shower curtain rings and put them onto hangers, then feed the scarves through the rings. You can then hang the hanger in your closet or on the back of a door. Hope that helps!!

Thatgaltabitha I bought hook racks as in double hooks on boards (coat racks?). I purchased four lots and put them behind my door unevenly spaced therefore having 32 hooks which I can double or triple my scarves. Works well for me 😀

Da hast du was vergessen.

Dear Dana, I'm french and have actually lived around a year in Germany. I have to say, one of the thing in my clothes that has changed is ... what to wearing at a party ! One time, I arrived at the party wearing a dress (pretty normal in France), everyone was looking at me like " ooh, you look so chic !" (and of course, all the other girls were wearing a shirt/tshirt with a jean) well I have to say : I didn't feel comfortable at all and from that time, I'm not wearing any dress anymore at german parties ! haha :D

I think it's not just because of moving between the US and Germany but also the time that has passed. You are now 9 years older and you changed your look. Self- esteem (bras) is also easier to achieve when you are older. I recently have found some pictures of myself from ca. 2004 and my "style" hasn't changed that much and I don't care about it.
@DouglasEKnappMSAOM

Been in Germany for 12 years. No it is not just growing older. Germans really don't care about superficial body differences. Lots of people here with crooked teeth for example and the dentists are more or less free here. They simply just don't care as much as in the USA. Life here is much less superficial. The people care more about who you are than what you have or what you wear. You can even get into trouble if your possessions are seen as showing off. Having a great car here will get people looking down on you as a snob.

I think your skinny jeans have less to do with being in Europe and more to do with styles changing while you were away. Most women about 35 and younger in the US wear skinny jeans, and that only really became the style in 2009 and 2010.
@susanholl5994
@susanholl5994 6 жыл бұрын
Julia K agree. Styles just changed with time. I live by San Francisco and skinny jeans are definitely the most popular denim style. Not just for under 35 either. Might be because people seem to be, at least on average, much smaller than typical USA. Veggies and fruit are cheap and walking a lot is mandatory.

For scarves separate them out by season like lighter ones for spring/summer and heavier ones for fall/winter. Change out the scarves with the seasons so you're not overwhelmed with the amount of choice you have. Plus after 6 months seeing stuff you haven't seen for awhile is always fun! The Komplement hanger from Ikea listed in a comment is also awesome! I use it for belts and scarves. I just moved from the US to Germany in April and have found that the style here just isn't 'me' enough. I really haven't found a store I love yet or anything that I can't live with out. But it's ok, I shipped and packed my entire wardrobe here--It'll keep me tithed over until I can go back to the States and go shopping. Also the selection of bra sizes here is just so much better! For someone with an odd size buying bras in the states was always a nightmare. I couldn't find an affordable bra at Target. Victoria's Secret employees would flat out tell me that they didn't have anything that would fit me. I would have to get speciality ones from Nordstroms or an independent bra shop and spend $60 or more on one bra that wasn't very pretty. But here Hunkemöller sells my size for 30Euros and they're pretty to boot!

The thing with the pants I find interesting. In Italy, where I used to live and my sisters still do, everyone and I mean EVERYONE now wears skinny jeans. Here in Germany it's similar, so I kind of assumed it was a... worldwide trend? For some reason? I thought, well fashion comes from the US usually so I guess they wear those too... And since I don't like them very much, I'm always the odd one out xD

Actually in Hungary everybody wears skinny jeans and super skinny jeans (when my bf bought his first pair his parents called them thights:DD) so I assumed as well that it's worldwide. And Ray, I don't know where are you from but since everything comes from the US, we, gullible Europeans, just think that if it's a trend in Europe it must come from the US.

I spent a year abroad as an exchange student in Ireland. It's pretty common over there that you wear a school uniform and that you have your own and very noticeable style outside of school. Bevor i went to Ireland I had a pretty common style like everyone else. I liked to wear black skinny jeans, grey jerseys and nike or addidas runners, but after a couple of months in Ireland I felt like people are judging me for not having my own style or just being very basic and I actually thought I am. So I thought about it and noticed that I always tried to be as ordinary as possible. Even if I saw something that I really liked in a shop i didn't buy it if it was colorful or unusual. I decided to wear what ever I want even if it's unusual and noticeable. Nobody was judging me over there for my new style, they supported the new me. I got so much more self confidence than I ever had before and it feels soooo good. Back in Germany people judged me for my new uncommon style, but I don't care. I mean I accepted their opinions but that doesn't mean anything to me. It feels good not to be forced to follow the latest fashion. I am just the way I am. I love baggy jeans, colorful Tshirts and a big smile on my face.

There are so many ways to organize scarves! I usually just hang them on the same hanger as the jacket or blouse I like to wear them with, but you can also fold or roll them up and put them in a drawer or storage cubicle, or hang them all on their own separate hanger(s) so you have a selection from which to choose. If you don't have space anywhere else, you can buy a plastic container to put them in and slide them under your bed. I hope this helps! :)

when I lived in the US for a year a started to care less about my style. In germany I would always go nicely dressed with real pants and with a full face of make up to school. In the US a wore a lot of yoga pants and in general comfy clothes to school because I felt like nobody really cared. Also the stores where I would by my clothes changed. In Germany I got almost all my clothes from H&M. In the US even though there are H&M stores too, my main store was forever 21.

I just keep to skirts and dresses now thanks, I also have a big disliking for leggins... because most of the time people look like they forgot to put the skirt on I am sorry they are just not a suitable pants replacement in my oppinion (I don't mind if you war them for sports or something) but you do you!

If you take your scarfs and fold them in half and loop the ends through the middle you can hang any where from one to eight on a single hanger and put them in with your other cloths. Also if it's a deep storage area if you take the part of a can that opens it off you can take two hangers ( or more) and put them each through one hole and save even more space.

Scarf organization: My mum gave me a hanger that looks like the top of a dress and when you put the scarves through the hooks at the bottom your scarves make up the skirt of the dress. I love it and it’s not just organized, I even hung it on a hook on the wall because it’s too pretty to be kept in the closet.

Get a hanger that has three or four pieces to it connected you know one hanger 4 slots and do it by color so put all the green ones with on one of those multi slotted hangers if they don't have them your mom can send them to you and then put the red one on another so then that way when you pull out the hanger that has four different slots you can see all your red scarves or green scarves so they're color coded and organized if you fold them you could probably fit at least 2 or 3 if you folded them correctly on each slot so you could have 12 scarves on each hanger

with the scarfs I just roll it up and put a rubber band around it so it stays rolled up, this has three main benefits over folding it saves space, it prevents wrinkles, and if stored in a "standing" position (on it's end) you can store multiple scarfs in a drawer in such a way that you can look through and find the exact scarf you want in seconds without worrying about it being at the bottom of a huge pile

I am currently an exchange student from Germany in the US and I’ll have to correct you on the pants point. I haven’t seen many actual fashionable people wear bootcut pants. Some older people yes but I feel like that’s just leftover from the 2000s. But yes, I did notice the colourful pants are more popular in germany.

After moving to Ireland I became more of a minimalist when it comes to clothing and I definitely own more vintage pieces. Where I live here are so so many authentic vintage places and vintage kilo sales that it is quite common here. Even though apart from that, my style is very different from what people usually wear here, especially to go out. I kept my germaneness for that - no high heels, tight dresses and tons of make up for me!

If you don't have a scarf hanger, just hang two regular hangers below each other (I had a lot of unused space on my closet door, so i used pushpins to hang hangers there. Depending on the scarf size i can fit 3-5 scarves per hanger and i really enjoy picking one out in the morning, especially cause they're displayed nicely)

I would say, some things have to do with changing styles. Leggings and skinny jeans just became popular (again for leggings) in the time you were living in Germany. The straight jeans style was really common before (and I miss the time, I hate skinny jeans for myself). Same with more colour, that wasn't really a thing before.

Maybe it's just cuz I live in Southern California but I see ZERO people wearing baggier pants in the last few years. Like maybe people over 50 do, but no one else. I even feel fuddy duddy in my straight-leg jeans that just go straight down and not flair at all. Literally everyone (guys and girls) wear skinny jeans/pants and most girls also wear leggings instead of pants a lot of times - like literally their shirts don't even cover the leggings at all - it's weird (I can't bring myself to do that - no one wants to see me in those!). I would venture to say that Florida is behind the times.

I store my scarves in tubs/draws, but organize by weight, then colour. So heavy wool winter scarves in one tub, knit versitile scarves in another, silk/light scarves in another etc. I also store many of them in twists. For the silk scarves especially I twist the scarf, fold it over, hold the free ends and let it "untwist" so I have a helix type structure, then place in a knee-high stocking. It's easy to sort through the bundles and once removed I have a container for the stocking so I can replace the scarf later.

Dana, what do you mean with "trying to balance on the U-Bahn", how do you do that? I mean, wherever it goes into a tunnel, there is maybe a foot of room between its roof and the tunnel roof, so how do you fit in there upright (so that you can balance instead of just laying flat)? Anyhow, that is a really dangerous hobby and many have died from it, so please don't do that too often!

It's still highly uncomfortable in heels, especially when you're not used to walking with them, or as Dana said, are used to drive by car and don't actually walk/stand on them a lot. You can quickly lose your balance if the train shakes from side to side (they do that, trust me) and unless you are going for a really wide legged stance to keep your balance, it is very tiring.

When it comes to fashion, I'm a bit of a radical. I think something like fashion shouldn't exist, because it plays with and preys on peoples inferiority complexes, and that is something I can't condone. So I don't even care how people around me are clothed. The only time I even notice it is if somebody is exceptional in some way (like really quirky or even crazy, or just exceptionally "fashionable" as in walking around like a peacock, having lots of paint on their face and stuff like that - but that rather repells me from that person than it could ever attract me).
@caulkins69
@caulkins69 6 жыл бұрын
I've always hated the arbitrariness of fashion. A style that is loved one decade becomes reviled in the next, and anyone who continues wearing it is marked as inferior. Even when I was in grade school, there was tremendous pressure to wear the "right" brand and style of jeans. 11-year-olds should not have to worry about things like that. Neither should adults, for that matter.

RedJoker Those people that need fashion lack self-confidence. In my opinion, it is rather pathetic to need something on the outside to boost your self-confidence (that goes for fashion, cars, gadgets, houses, and basically anything that doesn't come from within you as a person and has nothing to do with the outside world). But as I said, I'm a bit of a radical when it comes to things like that ;)
@Seegalgalguntijak

caulkins69 Yeah, that's the point where I say people that lack self-confidence are being preyed upon by the fashion industry to spend money to continue to boost a fakery of what they are made to think is self-confidence, but since it's fake, it really isn't, it is the opposite.
