What is meant by the adjective "underrated" in this context? I see that applied to celebrities all the time, and it seems absurd. Is there a rating for celebrities that I've never heard of? Serious inquiry.
@connycontainer9459
@connycontainer9459 Жыл бұрын
@@camplethargic8 Just read in an article '..before the time when he was making straight-to-DVD-movies.', him beeing a good actor. Which implies that his acting talent is tied to the commercial success of the movies he's starring in. Which is something the critics would not do with for example Clooney or Pit, who produce and star in these smaller, independent, often political movies, that are not always blockbusters either. Which are then in turn called underrated by said critics. Also you got all these memes of him taken from various smaller films, that especially when taken out of context, make him look like a maniac. But he sure as hell has a method to his madness and he's taking his role about, let's say a guy who lost his pig just as serious as Clooney, who want's to convey the injustice of the McCarthy-era for example. Which under the auspices of art he should as it's just as important and has as much weight, making him therefore probably one of the current most underrated actors. Though I have to admit, I myself haven't seen most of his movies, especially the more recent ones. Mostly because I myself thought for a long time that he had just lost it. Until I watched one or two and draw my own conclusions.

City of Angels, the movie that when I figured out how it was going to end after I had suffered through a better than 3/4 of it started throwing my foam touchdown bricks and bad call bricks at my TV set. Yes I am old enough to have owned a TV set. I was never so damn mad of a movie in my entire life. I really liked it up until I realized what was going to happen. Andre Bragher play his. Best friend he was amazing so is Dennis Franz. It was an outstanding movie plus it had the Goo Goo Dolls soundtrack.

Who doesn't enjoy a Nic Cage movie? As a matter of fact, the @OfficialNicCage portrayal of an Angel, literally SAVED MY LIFE! I was 24 when my Groom of 34 days, a Professional FF/EMT/HAZMAT rock of a man, was suddenly killed on duty. (We'd been together 6.5 yrs.) Later that night, I spontaneously aborted via miscarriage, our little one. (I had learned we were +/-6 weeks pregnant in the wee hours/after he had left for his 24hr shift...but wanted to wait until after he'd returned safely 28hrs later.) Our teen children, all from his previous marriage, stayed with their paternal GP that night, & never returned to me. I had 5 special & wanted souls taken from me. Our home wasn't the only empty vessel in my life. I was shredded, devastated & completely lost for about 3 months, at the time I caught a glimpse of myself in the bathroom mirror, in the house the two of us had been building by hand. I had our .45 in my mouth, ready to 'eat it'. (I chose standing in the shower as being easier to clean afterwards. Strange...the thoughts that pop up at times of stress.) In THAT 'glimpse', thoughts of religion interrupted my pain. As the Roman Catholic religion has done for many...it made everything worse! In that moment of 'solution'...their idea of Hell ripped apart the thought of where I'd be heading...to some WONDERFUL place my AMAZING, BRAVE, HONERABLE, & SELF SACRIFICING husband & little one would CERTAINLY be...some kind of 'Heaven'. The risk of failing to be with them for a joyous eternity was more terrifying, than suffering however long any solutary existence on Earth would be. So I pulled the .45c from my mouth & never entered THAT room again. Though I'd finished our dream home, returned to my VERY active 911 EMS (NREMT-P/FF) career, & was now also an EMS Division Chief...10yrs had passed by at a snail's pace. I'd spent nearly every day working hard & helping others survive THEIR trauma, yet my off-duty thoughts frequently returned to 'options'. Then, that same year, City of Angels, & What Dreams May Come, were released. While the WDMC storyline was different, the thought of my SOULMATE choosing as the male lead had, terrified me! But in CoA, my life was played out on screen. By the end of CoA, EVERYTHING changed. Thru Nic Cage's performance, I saw how I needed to change my perspective...it was THE ONLY WAY to reach my goal. It's CERTAINLY not been easy...these 35 yrs since my husband sudden & tragic death & loss of our unborn...but Nic SAVED my life. He STILL does. Every time I hear his name, see his movies, or even come across a picture of him, my promise is renewed, &, to quote my Groom...do "WHATEVER IT TAKES" to finish my life term on Earth. It's my duty to do what I Loved so much about him...appreciating EVER MOMENT, no matter how good or bad it may be...because I'm here to do so. If only because he no longer can. Oh...& @StephenColbert was a wonderful help, too. I mean, he DID invite Nic Cage on his show....right? (LOL)

"Renfield" looks like a blast! Personally, I ❤ Moonstruck, Raising Arizone, Kick-Ass, National Treasure (2004). Blue Bliss channel on KZbin has some fantastic Nic Cage art and animation.

He needs to do a one man monologue tour like Mark Twain and later Gregory Peck used to do around the world

So much love for this guy. All my friends growing up had crushes on hunky Hollywood it Actors, give me Nick any day! I wonder if he’s ever tried stand up?

He could just do a 'spoken word' tour telling stories about Hollywood and it'd be enthralling, and probably funny, too.

I don't think I'd ever seen an interview with Nicholas Cage before but he seems so cool. He reminds me of Jeff Goldblum but more articulate. Really enjoyed these 3 videos.

Cage is awesome. Brings so much to every film he's in. He's going to crushed it as Dracula. Excited for his Dracula.

Nic and Jim Carrey are long-time best buds. I really hope they collaborate on something soon before Jim turns too far inward and recluses himself. I think they'd make a great movie or even just a cool short film or skit.
