From a customer's perspective, the problem is that their product quality is in the toilet now. Due to past injuries and tracking shoe life and injury trends, I ended up rotating running shoes every 200 to 250 miles. Foams degrade over time. However, I do admit I put in 1100miles on an Adidas Adios Pro and kept enjoying them, so maybe there is truth to the durability question. For better or worse, subsequent models didn't last as long due to the upper breaking, which stopped me from tempting fate.

@@mtldragon9860 Yup, the foam absorbs a massive amount of force (3x bodyweight) with each stride. When that happens, the shoe feels "flat" and no longer provides the support that it needs to. For me, this happens before I'm wearing through the upper. I ran competitively in HS and college, and folks hold on to their running shoes for way too long. You increase injury risk substantially by running in shoes beyond when you should, and I wish average runners were more informed.

Jordans is only part of the story. In Europe, Air Max has always been the trendiest shoe lines, but again I see more and more people wearing other brands (Hoka, On Cloud, Salomon, Adidas Samba). I also think trainers (sneakers) are generally a bit less popular than they were and more people are moving towards shoes and boots.

I have not bought nike ever since they got caught using a 12-year-old pakastani boy sewing nike shoes for only 60 cents a day. An Nike denied these claims until they were proven to be true. And when Im in the store and talk to people in general about Nike they all say the same thing " Nike is to narrow and there is no room in the toebox". Once you order, you have to wait for delivery guy or go to a pick-up place. Then if it doesnt fit you have to pack it back up and order delivery back. That people would so easily switch to other brands, with the implication that price >>> loyalty + quality 3. On and Asics are paying retailers better for selling their wares. In the 90ies - when I went to school - everyone had Nike and so did I because I was trying to fit in. After 4-5 shoes falling apart within every two years I switched to Adidas. After another ten years I tried for running Asics shoes and I am very happy with the quality. The shoes were keeping up 5-10 years and I bought a new pair just recently.

Nike then pivoted too hard in the opposite direction in smaller countries like New Zealand. Right now in 2024, the Nike app and online shopping has pulled out of NZ, forcing shoppers to visit Nike stores which have a very limited range of merchandise, while their ties with other retailers remain severed. I used to be one of their most loyal customers pre-pandemic, buying something every couple of months from the app. Now I haven't bought anything from them in years since the app stopped working in NZ.

Didnt help that they wouldn't juat consistently produce nice air jordans. Give me a plain, smartish, black version and theyre my everday shoe. Its needle in a haystack stuff to find a pair that fits the bill.

Quality is waaay down. To many plastic mesh, hard materials...just smells and feels cheap. And the prices that are about 40% above reality

Personally think they should resolve the relationship with retailers again. Try modern advertising such as hosting worldwide running campaigns and introduce a new shoe for each campaign. Get 1-2 major influencers outside of sports to not advertise but record themselves running with a Nike product. Then get sports influencers

Buying shoes online sucks. Sizing, fit and feel is difficult to get right between brands and models. So I either buy two or three of the same shoe in different sizes and return what doesn’t fit or buy one, hope it fits and if not deal with mailing it back for an exchange. For these reasons I’ll always go to a store as long as long as the price is less than a 5% difference.
