I left my leaf blower and power drill on my covered back patio which keeps them from getting wet but we had a heavy rain storm and high winds and both wouldn't charge. I was able to fix them after watching this video using a hair dryer, rubbing alcohol, and Qtips. The sooner you take them apart and clean the better your chances. Thanks!

What would you think of just drilling a few drain and vent holes into the exterior of the battery to help it dry out without opening it up

Hey, for next time... you should include 91% alcohol as part of the inital clean up. Its so safe for the board (with a swab that doesn't leave fur) it works as a degreaser and evaporates extremely quickly, taking a small amout of moisture with it

You definitely learned the hard way regarding the screw driver and battery packs. I've done it too. These packs are tricky to rescue sometimes because you cannot easily remove power while working on it. As someone pointed out, douse it with 99% alcohol and brush with a tooth brush to get the coolant film off. Alcohol carries the water away, is non-conductive and evaporates very fast. Any water left will cause corrosion very fast due to galvanic reactions of the powered up board. If you have any friends that Vape, those cells pack a big punch, but they do not have protection circuits built in to prevent over charge/discharge.
@jaylin33213 жыл бұрын
Think this would work for pain old water damage and not coolant?

The video on the tear-down is good, but screwdrivers to corroded circuit boards don't really work. Next time, just use a sledgehammer. LOL, or try a plastic cell phone opening tool or just some q tips with isoproply . Really should have removed the batteries and cleaned the board with isopropyl alcohol 99 percent to start with, and if that doesn't clean, I would use a WD-40 Specialist Electrical Contact Cleaner Spray and the isopropyl to remove WD. Then, use an Amazon spot welder and nickel to replace the stips. But now it's time to get the meter out and start looking for blow crap.
@rcari06873 жыл бұрын
Dude, I was as simple as a toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol, clean everything out, let it dry and put it back on the charger to reactivate the board from safety mode, and/or use CRC electrical cleaner spray, dude it's common sense never use metal against electrical stuff

A valiant effort nonetheless my friend ! Thx for showing disassembly steps. Mine was the larger battery & blower left out in rain lol. Got it in bowl of rice now but it will be better to take apart full to dry 100%. Now charger just blinks both Red fail & Green charge lite simultaneously. Like said, Ill do CRC Electrical Contact Spray + canned air to dry & wrap carefully in dry towel. Should revive it. On yours, Id actually call CRC company ask if their spray should disperse Coolant (which is a form of oil) residue if sprayed heavily. Or consider using a kitchen sink sprayer to wash away coolant, then dry as discussed. We live & learn....youll be wiser 2nd time around. I ask Gods Blessing on all my repairs - HE, God, is the CREATOR & SUSTAINER of ALL things, which includes the stuff we design, use & break lol. So for me thats: - Afoesaid Ryobi battery - Leaky toilet - Mercedes Harmonic Balancer ....I gotta run Thanks again, FixIt Dave in East Texas

It seems . The problem is these battery packs circuit is always powered up. It is NEVER completely turned off. That means as soon as liquid gets in , some of the electricity in battery goes where it should not and battery electronics is kaput .....
