Great points coach, but I spend so much time in my head, however my training is coming along well, so my April marathon will be okay. I am having a lot of fun with my training, but all too often I run too hard because I feel like I'm in a time crunch because I'm either on my lunch break or about to start work, that is a me problem and should just work on coping with those stresses, because I'm not late.

One day a time man. You are doing great. You'll be ready come April.

Appreciate this. I find myself on the vdot calculator too much trying to see where I need to be and where I am at

Long time viewer here love the channel. I got a big question maybe you can help me answer. I’ve started running more seriously for about 6ish months now and I’m trying to figure out what to do next. About two months ago I ran my first half marathon: 1:29:20. And I’m about to run my first 5k in two weeks. Can confidently say I’ll run 18:25 but going for 18:10ish. I’m looking to break 1:20 in my next half marathon but I think I need to work on my base (injury prevention and getting my miles up so I can really get after it). I can comfortably run 45mpw, I can hold 50 for about 3 weeks before feeling fatigued (all this experience is inside aggressive training. I’ve actually never really done base training). I was thinking working on base for 4 months then 4 month half marathon training block. What’s your opinion on this? Also if you have a base training plan that you think fits let me know and I’ll consider purchasing it. Thanks for your time and expertise.

Thanks so much for the support Don. I know you are going to run well under the 1:20 half barrier. You are doing great work and training and that 1:29 proves you are capable of it. Yes, 4 months of base than 4 months of specific work is a solid plan.

Freaking hell coach. In my first real time doing 200 meter sprints, I twisted my ankle. Apparently my coordination is a weakness i need to strengthen. The internet, as it always does, gives a variety of a timeline of when to return to training. Anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks. It's just sprained and swollen, but I don't want to lose any momentum this early in the year. Frustrating...thanks for hearing me out.

Hang in there man. Hope you heal up fast. Soak that ankle in epson salt, ice and elevate.

I have the same with positive split. Run crazy first half and not lose the second. 😊 for me it is working but lat 10 - 5 km is hard .

Hi, if it was a hot sunny day. Would you forefit a tangent for a cooler line that had shade, i.e., from buildings & and trees?

GREAT question, cases like I would strongly consider it for sure.

That's what I did in NYC trying to get to the side of the street with the greatest shade.

Running a 1:08 first half before finishing 2:40 is called overestimating your fitness level. Your marathon based workouts should have given you a more accurate estimate of what you could realistically run
@rundreamachieve8 күн бұрын
Appreciate that @trainwellracewell, when I ran my PR of (2:19:35) I hit the first half in 1:07:09 in 2007. My fitness did indicate a sub 2:19 when I ran that 2:40 but not all races are perfect and I was not going after a 2:40 that day in Vancouver in 2010 but a sub 2:19, you win some, you lose some. Thus, the reasoning behind going out in 1:08:43 rather than 1:20. You obviously don't know my racing background but thanks for the comment and wishing you success in 2025.

Hey Nate, I will be doing a 16 week training block for an early October marathon, but I would like to take advantage of that fitness and do a November marathon. How would u deal with a 4-6 week time period between marathons?
@rundreamachieve9 күн бұрын
I wouldn't run two in such a short amount of time. Pick the one you want the most and focus all your energy on that. VERY tough to come back 4-6 weeks later and run another, can be done yes...but I'd put all my energy on one. Just my 2 cents. Keep up the great work.
