How NOT to WILDCAMP on the ISLE OF SKYE | Overcoming FEAR | POTHOLE ROADS |

We head over the bridge to the Isle of Skye for our 4th night off grid in our motorhome. Our van is equipped with one 85 watt solar panel and a 230amp leisure battery, no expensive powerbanks or lithium batteries, this was during a cold spell in March. We firstly head to our favourite tea room in Torrin for tea and cake, we enjoyed a stunning drive through the mountains on a glorious day. Then we head across towards Staffin trying to dodge the potholes and I try and overcome my fear and anxiety and walk across the platform to view Lealt Falls. We then start the ardious task of trying to find a wildcamp for the night, which is not always easy for someone like me. We try Staffin Bay at first as we saw ‪@PoshcatsCamping‬ had stayed there a while ago. I am quite difficult to wildcamp with as I get stressed out and we show you how difficult it is to tick all of my requirements. I am surprised I ever wildcamp at all and looking at this video I am shocked that my poor husband hasn't divorced me by now! There is something so magical about driving through the mountains and tourist areas in a campervan. Buying local produce to take back and cook in the campervan, or stopping at an independent shop for coffee and cake helping to support the local economy. What a lovely part of the world. We love Skye but like you we are fussy about where we park up. Staffin Slipway is a nice spot but when we first visited in 2017 it was little known to the vanning community so we were entirely on our own in late November. On our most recent visit two years ago, we were late arriving and had the last but one space at the top near the dinosaur footprints. Looks like you found a nice space to park in the end. We loved it at the waterfall viewing platform, it was amazing and Karl got the drone up. Looks like you had amazing weather, it all looked simply stunning. We've parked down there a few times at Staffin. The road is well dodgy but the harbour is really windy, and I mean really windy. It's less windy by the beach. That park up looked nice enough to me lol.

I see Lindsay has said Skye looked Gorgeous, perhaps there is scope for another visit LOL. We used a place near Duntulm, reasonable flat but had rocks behind. That bend at Uig was one we watched a truck reverse a couple of miles then around the bend, no worries LOL Take care and watch those Dolphins, the ones in Japan are biting people.

That was great - well done for walking on to that platform. 👏👏. The scenery is amazing. The Tea Room looking across at Bla Bheinn was in such a spectacular location. We’ve done a lot of Skye. We stayed twice in a cottage North of Uig and took the kids on the beach at Staffin. Such a fantastic island We can understand the nervousness of wild camping spots. Using the David and Lindsay rule 1 where if Lindsay ain’t happy they move on seems to be what we would use. So fascinating following you guys 👍👍 Dave and Sue.

Hi Dave & Sue 👋 Thanks, I’m such a wuss 🤭 We highly recommend Amys Place for your next trip to Skye it’s a beautiful setting & the cakes are amazing too & really lovely folk that own it 💓 We come up to Skye a lot, was back there last week 😉 and eating more cake 🤫 Yeah, sometimes the nerves kick in with wild camping & sometimes I get a gut feeling & there will be a future vlog about that & making sure we listen to it in future. It looked like they had burnt the surface off the road in preparation for laying new tarmac. Your weather looked really good, the last time we went to Skye for a fortnight it only rained twice, once for 3 days and once for 11 days with half a day gap in between, the more mountainous roads were more like waterfalls.

@@vansforthememories I've spent the last two days washing, polishing, deep cleaning and doing all the little jobs that I've put off doing for months so that we can go off to Minehead, Somerset in comfort next weekend (the kids use our beach hut for free while their dad pays for him and their mom to stay on the campsite). I allowed about 4 hours to get everything done and it ended up more like 12. It didn't help that my daughter hooked it up to the electric a few weeks ago to use the fridge for all the extra food needed for her significant birthday and then unhooked it leaving a load of saugage rolls in the ice box. Now that the demountable camper is back on the truck after it's MOT I'm hoping to get away for at least a few days each week.
