I think she knows because she has intentions of overthrowing him and replacing him as the Emperor’s apprentice. Knowing that many of the inquisitors were once Jedi, it’d be natural for Vader to go to great lengths to prevent them from knowing his true identity. She might know this because she intends to be more than an inquisitor. Hence how she was also able to find Obi-Wan when not even Vader could. Finding Obi-Wan and bringing him in would win favor with Vader and help her get into a position to where she can eliminate him. Most importantly, in her mind, bringing in Obi-Wan will curry favor with Sidious

I'd subscribe to a version of the first theory: Obi-wan knew very well that Anakin gained the title of Vader and had heard of this figure Vader existing in the Empire after Obi-wan's and Anakin's duel, but he might have been in enough denial to think that just maybe Sidious found a replacement for Anakin and the title of Lord Vader was passed on.

There is a third possibility. This third possibility is that Obi Wan knew Anakin survived their duel and that the man in the suit, Darth Vader, was Anakin. The dread on Obi Wan's face follows from his realization that Vader has confirmation that Obi Wan is alive. Before this moment, Obi Wan can derive at least in part a feeling that he and Luke are both "safe."

I'm not upset that they reconned the way Obi-Wan learned that Vader\Anakin was alive and well in the least. Now we all got to see in live action the moment that Kenobi realized that he truly failed Anakin. If you think about it, Kenobi left Anakin to suffer and die slowly being burned away, instead of just striking him down with this lightsaber or force pushing him into the lava. I personal think that Kenobi wanted Anakin to suffer and feel all the pain that he inflicted on Kenobi and the Jedi Order 10 fold, until he burned away in that lava. In a brief moment of anger, Kenobi let the darkness in and decided that Anakin needed to burn slowly. The on screen reaction from Kenobi shows me that my theory may be correct.

I don't think in any of the Star Wars canon that there is an indication that Obi-Wan ever had to struggle with a desire for someone else to suffer. Even when Maul killed Satine which is probably the other height of emotional trauma that he went through besides Anakin. There's no indication that Obi-Wan wanted Anakin to suffer. There's every indication to suggest that he just didn't want to kill his brother as he told Yoda.

As Kenobi isn’t a sith and doesn’t necessarily know how the naming works I think it’s possible that he heard Vader’s name, thought Anakin was dead and thought that maybe another Vader had been put in his place. Perhaps he really was surprised to find out that Vader was still Anakin.

I think his 'surprise' at the information was more based on her calling him Anakin instead of vader. Meaning possibly that 3rd sister was more impressed by the surviving anakin than by the triumphant vader. This could also imply that she was one of the surviving order 66 younglings that was turned and inspired by anakin that day instead of killed. Maybe anakins 2nd apprentice?

It could be he knew of Anakins existence but in that moment he had a connection with Anakin and actually FELT his presence. It's a big difference intelectually knowing something and experiencing it. Plot wise the importance is now Vader also knows Kenobi is alive beyond any doubt.

One explaination I could see is that in Episode 3 Obi Wans hears the Emperor restyle Anakin as Darth Vader. Shortly later Obi Wan leaves Anakin for dead and flees to Tatoonie. When he later hears the name Darth Vader used in passing as Vaders public reputation increases throughout the galaxy he might have arrived at the conclusion that Anakin could not have possibly survived and therefore the Emperor must have recruited another fallen Jedi and gave them the same title, similar to how there's been many Duke of Yorks.

I agree, the scene made me think, "how can this be news" but the hiding and and hiding from himself angle is credible, what is important is that this story can only go so far as the sequel has been written , and episode 3 is the cardinal work in the whole thing, you really can't mess with it, the only victory available in this series is absence of outright defeat, The Skywalker twins remain unknown to the enemy and Obi Wan is off grid at the conclusion, His defeat by Vader at the start of that trilogy also needs to make sense as Obi -Wan accepts quite easily what looks to be even more utterly demoralising defeat in the context of the personal history and the situation at the time.

He's been cut off from the force for 10 years scared to even use it incase anyone is able to sense him. He may have heard of lord Vader but wasn't sure it was anakin as he left him for dead. It could have been palatine mocking the Jedi or even some sort of droid which was a rumour anyway. After hearing he was alive for the first time and having just used to force to save Leia, for the first time he allows himself to try to sense him in the force. This is when Vader opens his eyes and senses him back. Obi wan will have sensed Vader's anger and Vader sensed Obi wan fear. Obi wan is worried for himself but also for the two children he has to protect

Obi-Wan heared Palatine tell Anakin he would from that point on be known as Darth Vader and over the 10 years since Obi-Wan thought Anikin died after their battle untill seeing the broadcast in the Cantina...but was still not believeing it so he was in Deinal until Reva Confermed it.. and Obi-Wan had to accept it was true after all.

this is how i see obiwan learning about vader. this is from a certain point of view, obiwan learned that anakin has become darth vader from the security tapes at the jedi temple. so in way darth vader killed anakin, then obiwan believe he had killed varder. it was not until reva the third sister reveal to obiwan that vader was still alive and just incase he did not know anakin is darth vader. that is how i explain revenge of the sith to episode 2 of the obiwan series. so the shock looked on obiwan face is more about anakin/vader being alive. so to reva she thinks she is the first to tell obiwan that vader is alive and he was once anakin skywalker. revea not knowing that obiwan already knew that vader was anakin.

That Sidious was spreading tales of 'Lord Vader' as a way to create fear, by making it seem like he was still alive. But when Reva said "You didn't know?" "He's still alive" Obi-wan realized the truth.

I can think of one reason, or two: She was a child when Order 66 went down. She saw her classmates slaughtered, some who might have been her best friends. She saw her whole world fall apart. Obi-Wan Kenobi, the hero of the galaxy, one of the most legendary Jedi of all time...couldn't stop this. He couldn't save any of them. And worse, his own apprentice is Darth Vader, the man who helped screw over the galaxy. As she sees it, Obi-Wan is the reason why everything's so screwed up right now. She's so twisted up in her own pain and anger that she can't see past it.

There's a whole in this theory as Reva knows who Vader is and she allegedly knows this as she was a kid who saw anakin kill all the kids in the Temple so she puts 1 and 1 together. So how couldn't Kenobi do the same as he left Anakin alive not really knowing if he survived and knew the Emperor was landing. So when the picture of Vader in the cantina he should know for sure Anakin was Vader. Reva wouldn't know who Vader really was if she did she would of been dead. Just say Obi-Wan series is just horrible and stop making excuses for the lack of effort put into the plot and horrible acting.

How would it make sense to separate and hide the twins from Vader if Obi-Wan thought Anakin was dead? In episode 3 Yoda and Obi-Wan and Bail had to have known Vader was alive to make that assumption.

Even if they had thought that Anakin was dead, they knew that Palpatine still wasn't. So splitting Luke and Leia up and hiding them would also have been to protect them from being found by Palpatine.
