I personally don’t find unbelievably in the context of this show. Obi-wan purposefully cut himself off from the force so he couldn’t find out the same way Ashoka did. The way I see it, just because it wasn't mentioned in a book, comic, or on screen doesn't mean they didn't have up to date news on Tatooine and other outer rim planets, it just wasn't a necessary plot point to worry about. As for everyone knowing about Vader even in real life we don't know about every high profile military official during peacetime but during wartime we get to know them like Nimitz, Halsey, MacArthur, Patton, and Bradley to name a few during WWII and Schwarzkopf during the Gulf War. I suspect the Empire considered most of their 20 year run as peacetime filled with skirmishes all over the place. After the loss of the Death Star though, they were clearly in an all out war and not just dealing with pesky pockets of insurgents all over the place, so I can understand Vader's recognition amongst the masses coming to the forefront after these events with no problem, but before that, yeah, he kept a pretty low profile but only because there wasn't a a full-scale war going on instead of some conspiracy theory that he must remain secret yada yada yada.

The ANH scrawl states "Sinister agents." Vader was, until this point at least, a covert operative. Later, it is revealed that the senate is no more and Vader was able to move to the fore. By ESB, we see him regarded by some of the military old guard as something of an indulgence to the Emperor, barely tolerated and inwardly scorned (Admiral Ozzel treated him with the exasperated patience of a parent with an unruly toddler) whilst the likes of Piett saw past the cute, cuddly thing and recognized him as a legitimate threat. There's a book which I believe falls under Legends now which is the Rise of Darth Vader. It's an excellent book and at the end it has a scene where Obi-Wan is on Tatooine and watching Owen, Beru and Luke in Mos Eisley. While there, he sees a news holo that mentions Darth Vader and he askes Qui-Gonn if it's Anakin and Qui-Gon responds that his is. Until that point, Obi-Wan thought Anakin died on Mustafar. Now from what I can tell from Episodes 1 and 2 of Kenobi, it looks like Obi-Wan has been trying to commune with Qui-Gon, but for some reason, Qui-Gon hasn't responded yet. Like you, I've always been under the understanding that Vader wasn't really known about in the galaxy at large. He's known about in the Imperial military and the Senate, but the average Joe on the outer rim isn't going to know about him. Couple that with the fact that Obi-Wan is living a very solitary life, he's not really going to know much of anything in the galaxy. Good stuff man! Glad to see you're still putting out content. @Star Wars Fanatic What you stated works for me. As I see it, Vader acted initially more like as a "secret" agent. He only completed or handled difficult jobs which the underlings wouldn't be able to do, in the 19 years of peace time before the rebellion/war took hold. And you raised a good point about Ezra, Kanan and even Ahsoka not knowing about him. From the Ahsoka novel, she couldn't feel anyone in the force and presumed Obi Wan and Anakin to be dead. Also, Obi wan was living life as a hermit, working, not talking to anyone ( well apart from Owen yelling at him) and didn't socialise in bars to find out out any exciting news in relation to the Empire. Also, Tatooine, before a New Hope was not on the Empire's radar, due to being considered of nothing of importance. So I doubt the Empire would be on the 6 pm nightly holonet news on Tatooine for Obi-Wan to watch.

Alec Guiness was 62 years old when he was first filmed performing as Obi Wan Kenobi in Ep 4, Ewan McGregor was 33 when he played Obi Wan Kenobi in Episode 3 (filmed a year before their release, mind you). There's 29 years difference in actor ages for episodes set 20 years apart. Alec looks significantly older than 20 years passing since his character defeated Anakin. The only reason why Obi-Wan didn't know that Darth Vader is Anakin Skywalker because Vader "killed" Anakin and accepted of his new persona or alter-ego and lived fully on Sith for the time being. Luke Skywalker: "I accepted the truth that you were once Anakin Skywalker, my father." Darth Vader:" That name doesn't mean much to me." Luke Skywalker:"It is the name of your true self, you just only forgotten..." See, overtime people wanted to construct new persona because it could work to change lifestyle, molding a different mindset the mental framework or outside life for survival or being a harsher version of oneself and etc. That's why symbolically, Darth Vader represents nor only anger and intimidation , but live in falsehood and self denial to his new "persona". That's why Obi-Wan couldn't recognize Anakin's new presence, he's now more machine than man....(let you fill the rest of it, lol 😉). Vader was not a secret lol. Him being anakin yes, Vader himself though was well known in the galaxy , but this planet was in the outer rim, so news was always late and slum. This is hut territory, jaba the hut to be exact. Vader was paraded around by the emperor. The emperor wanted him to stop hunting jedi after the first few years and run the business of the empire, to be a political figure more then a hunter. I do see why you'd think this, but the comics, novels , and history shows all of this. The movies are lacking so much in lore, for this you have to read and get more into source material. I actually don't mind the change , we need more stories and characters, but it's still a change from the source. The huts were allowed to stay in power. This was a trade agreement, and they were still under the thumb of the empire, just not as much, that's why the people knew who the inquisitiors were. Vader identity was a secret to all but a few. He was very secret and quiet, but he was known everywhere. He was more a nightmare and scarey figure but still known. That's how Leia knew him , he was involved in politics and sent on missions for the emperor quite often to speak and carry out missions for politics and gain. I do enjoy the horror aspect of Vader much more though. The fear he gives people, the brutally efficient way he kills. This Vader is the one we need.

Well... It took 3 days but I figured it out all be it a little obvious. How did Reva know about Anakin? She was reading Obi's mind. That's why she said "You didn't know?..." That means Obi had a weak mind or weaker mind due to his guilt about Anakin. I think Vader sensed that and is coming for them both.
@wickedremains25942 жыл бұрын
How did she read his mind without direct contact? We see that is part of it she needs to put her hand to their head lile kylo. In this moment Obi-wan would also not have been thinking about Anakin at this point so she would not have been able to sense his thoughts either like vader did to luke.

Obi-Wan May very well know about Darth Vader. I don’t think he’s quite the level of secret that the KZbinr is describing. What Obi-Wan DIDN’T know is that Anakin is Darth Vader. As far as Obi-Wan knows Anakin died on Mustafar. Then Palpatine got a new Apprentice from wherever he pulls them and poof: Darth Vader. And Tatooine is in Hutt space. That’s why there is no Imperial presence until very late/just before A New Hope.

Revenge of the Sith- Darth Sidious calls Anakin Skywalker...Lord Vader in the security hologram Obi-Wan & Yoda watch, plus Yoda says (not an exact quote) gone the boy you trained, consumed by Vader young Skywalker is.

You are not brining up a comic about kenobi that explains he learned about vader still living in a tavern on Tatooine. Also Ashoka learns who vader really is in rebels. Remember their fight where she breaks his mask and she figures it out? Im sorry but your canon answer does not account for actual canon that we have had for years now. Also how does Reeva know who Vader really is. It is possible she knows vader exist being an inquisitor but she would not know his real name and live to tell Obi-wan in fact the only person who ever does manage to figure it out and live is Ashoka and thay is only with help from Ezera using the world between worlds.

Ashoka found out during a dogfight where she sensed Anakin under the armor and freaked out, not during their fight in the Sith Temple, she already knew who he was by that point.

SPOILER ALERT SO DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN EP. 3....... OBI-WAN fights Vader and is pathetic shell of his former self.... as you can see by his cutting off of the force.. I know this is before rebels and his fight with Maul that lasted seconds being the true jedi master he was / is.... What I am worried about with Rebels being canon and Kenobi looking like a soldier with PTSD after the Wars in this series so far ... is will he just turn the force back on and become the Ben we all know and see in Rebels to fight Vader... will he try and find the good in Anakin as Padme mentioned and Vader eluded to Luke when captured in ROTJ.... r will that be for season 2... ??? I feel Qui-Gon may be the key to snapping Kenobi out of his melancholy.... because he ain't doing shit in his condition at the moment except being punked down.

Obi wan thinking Anakin died isn't the problem. They write it as if he doesn't know Anakin is Vader which is just horrible writing
@STARWARS_FANATIC2 жыл бұрын
I didn’t get that impression at all. And if you’re talking about the article that was written, that isn’t what the writer said. They said Obi-Wan didn’t know if Vader survived. The headline was misleading and other KZbinrs ran with the headline. They didn’t read the article fully.
@ShizawnSanders2 жыл бұрын
@@STARWARS_FANATIC dude, the writer admitted to not knowing. Of course he is going to retract after looking the fool. Tons of people think the writing is horrible and for good reasons. The only thing good about this series is how they show Vaders power but even then they made him look incompetent in the 3rd episode. Ewan McGregor is a great actor so of course his acting is great. There are good visuals and cool new places that are shown but other than that the show sucks. Huge let down. Was so looking forward to this and its a huge letdown. Most of the acting is cringe bad. Writing is God awful and so is the directing. You can love it if you want but most people that know what to look for in good cinema think its average at best including me. Disney just wants to put out these properties and say love this or else your just a toxic person as if people can't have opinions. Its BS.

Well since the Empire operated on Power and Loyalty through Fear I'm going to say No, Vader would not be a carefully guarded secret. Palpatine would've paraded Vader around as the Empire's Justice early on to instill fear across the Galaxy
