How often should you neti pot? In Ayurveda, you can use a Jala Neti Pot once a day or once a week! Depending on your intention 😜
If you are sick, congestion, cough, cold and flu, you can use neti pot up to twice a day. Once in the morning, once in the evening.
If it's Kapha season (springtime) and you want to keep things clean from pollen and pollutants, you can use neti pot once a day!
If you just want general maintenance of your nasal passageway, you can use neti pot once a week! :)
HOW TO:
1. Prepare solution = 1/2 tsp fresh cracked salt + warm / room temperature water. Mix together.
2. Stand in the bathroom or above any other sink. Tilt your head to one side so that one ear is facing up and the other down into the sink.
3. Insert neti spout gently into the raised nostril and create a seal between the neti and your nostril.
4. Raise the neti pot and begin to steadily pour the solution into the lifted nostril, allowing it to flow out the lower nostril and into the sink.
5. Breathe through your mouth
6. One finished with one side, exhale a couple times to remove any excess
Flip sides and repeat.
7. Follow up with Nasya Oil** - especially vatas!!
Benefits of Jala Neti Pot:
Promotes good overall nasal and sinus health
Removes excess mucous
Clears respiratory irritants like dirt, dust and pollen
Promotes clean and higher quality prana, vital life force
Clear minded head and emotions
Balances the prana vayu, improves intake of sensory impressions
Inhale the goodness,
Clare

Super helpful. I've been doing the neti pot but in these dry winter months, my sinuses have become quite dry. Also, I'm often in ketosis, which tends to really reduce the amount of mucus my body generates. I'm going to try oiling my sinuses as well, and I have a feeling it's going to be just what I need. Thanks!

Safety is #1. Did I miss the mention of sterility? To avoid brain eating amoebas, use distilled water or boil water for 3-5 minutes & use within 24 hours. Neti pots must be washed with soap & water, dried & preferably sterilized for 90 seconds in the microwave.

For Neti pot you'll always want to use fresh purified water and high quality salt, no oil in Neti. Nasya is when you apply a drop or two of oil along the membrane walls of the nose. :)

My ayurvedic teacher always told me not to mix neti with nasya aka water and oil. I think possibly because is could aggravate Kapha..... thoughts?

I learned the same thing. It is best to split the 2 practices up by doing one in the morning and the other at night. Otherwise, it could breed infection. Great video! Keep sharing the wonderful wisdom of Ayurveda!

@@Clareminded Nice I'm trying all of these out too! Today when I tried Jala Neti, only droplets of water was coming out the other nostril and most of the water was stuck and not coming through. I tried tilting my head in different positions but it didn't help. Do you have any advice ?
@Clareminded
@Clareminded 3 жыл бұрын
@@zhennilin5794 if you're experiencing congestion that may be blocking it from going through. However if not, I may try one more time and pranayama, but if not nasya is a lovely practice as well which is gentler. :) I wouldn't suggest forcing anything :)
