Garshana shows us how to do a lymphatic drainage massage using a dry brush or silk gloves. The Ayurvedic remedy of dry brushing helps cleanse the lymphatic system.

The lymph needs daily cleansing because it does not move on its own. It is our body's sewer system and should be kept clean. In order to keep our lymph healthy and active, it needs daily deep breathing, exercise, garshana (dry brushing) abhyanga and a whole food diet.
Benefits:
- Removes ama (toxins) from the body
- Improves overall immune health and energy
- Stimulates blood flow
- Exfoliates the skin

How to:
- Start at the top of the head - circular motions
- Face (if desired or save for later)
- Neck and shoulder with long strokes
- Long strokes on the limbs, circular motion at the joints (hands-to-center)
- Abdominal - clockwise motion (natural path of digestion)
- Lower back, hips, butt - circular motion
- Legs, bottom-to-center, circular motion on the knees, ankles
*Apply lighter pressure where the skin is thin (underarm) and more pressure where the skin is thick (soles of the feet)
Don’t practice garshana if:
- You have a skin condition like psoriasis or eczema OR a sunburn, sensitive skin, open cuts, or sick.

Namaste beautiful soul! I only found your channel today and love the two videos I have watched so far, but noticed it has been a bit since you posted. Are you still creating videos?🙏🏽🤗 I have a few quick questions, I did study Ayurveda back in 2008 at the CAISH in Toronto, but one thing that wasn’t discussed was the cleaning of the dry brush instrument you use. I have a hand held bristle brush with massage nodes that I purchased but haven’t used yet because i am trying to find answers on how often to clean it and how to clean it. Can you help with this? The second question is about time of day. I know from training these are all part of a morning routine but, some of us have more time in the evening, and that’s also when i shower. Can I do the dry brush, Abhyanga oil massage at the end of the day before my shower and pm yoga practice? Can I do the dry brush in the morning if I am not having a shower?? I appreciate any suggestions. These parts of my heritage are amazing but not always sustainable in modern times especially for commuters lol.

You did a great job explaining it all! 2 items to share, if helpful: 1) we would do this with applying chickpea flour or Veda-recommended herbs. (It has been a long time, so maybe I am getting ahead of another lesson? 2) I was always taught that you should leave the oil on for as long as possible up to 12-24 hours depending on recommendations by the Veda. It is less comfortable, but gives the oil time to both absorb & cleanse/exude.

Hi Claire! Thanks for the video. Super informative. I have a question - when I learned about dry brushing years ago, I learned to dry brush from the feet to the head. Is there a difference in the order you dry brush?

Hi Hannah! Yeah for sure, great question. It can depend on what you prefer and also where you've learned. Both are totally fine. From my understanding, it's about the direction you want to move and expel the energy out of your system. Many believe that energy exits through the head and therefore some may go from toe-to-head. I personally believe that energy can also expel through the feet, and this is the direction I was taught. neither one is wrong or right, just whatever connects to you the most. :)

The lady who introduced me into lymphatic massages said to open the bottle... so start with the head, neck, torso, just as showned here and move from feet to belly to arms. The kidneys will work along to eliminate, so I always try to go towards the kidneys from the bottom of the body.
