My daughter has 4c hair and it's super long. I found that washing her hair every 3 to 4 weeks works best, because her hair is so dry and loves to get tangled. I add very little product (just a little coconut oil) to avoid build up which keeps me from over manipulating it. I get it straightened it every 3 months so she can get a trim and take all the knots out. I doubt her hair would be as long and healthy as it is (especially for fragile 4c hair), if I tried to wash it more often. Figure out what your hair needs and just do right by it.

I agree with everything they said. But even mainstream shampoo doesn’t fit most white people because there are who’re people with curly hair too.
@kevinfox2985 жыл бұрын
That's true. I'm white, and my hair type's 3b (I've heard it's a Celtic thing, but I don't know for sure). The Sodium Laureth Sulfate in most shampoos is really not good for even European curly hair, but the challenge is finding shampoos that don't have it. I've essentially given up on finding one, since the cheap brand I use isn't destroying my hair and I have a good routine down that makes up for any potential damage (like rinsing with cold water, and using a little leave-in moisturiser). I wouldn't wash my hair with some strange hotel shampoo for any amount of money.

I never thought about hotels having shampoo and conditioner for my hair type, you are right we should demand it! We spend money at these hotels that only cater to straight haired people! You’re hair adapts to your routine. If you wash daily, hair will over oil and needs refreshing. Honestly I think even tighter curly hair types could benefit from more frequent washing since it really helps with growth. For me my hair grows faster when I wash it more often. But only like every 2-3 days dependent on product use and styles. And utilizing co washes and discretion. If hair needs it and it’s only been two days, I’ll do it. I’ve noticed quicker growth than the once a week. I specifically think this has a lot to do with stimulating roots and opening up pores from clogging conditioners and stylers.

It depends on the style, sometimes I’ll wash twice a week, sometimes once every two weeks, sometimes once a month or even longer. You don’t have to wash your hair a lot to maintain its health. My 4A hair is doing great it’s down to my waist and I get it that way by leaving it alone. I’ve gone 3 months without washing my hair and if you take care of it and moisturize your scalp and keep it out of extra dirty situations it won’t stink and it will grow and maintain its health. I get away with washing once a month by not greasing my scalp. I also concentrate my moisturizing and sealing products about 2 inches from my roots that way product doesn’t get to my scalp. With a very busy lifestyle, longer hair, mixed textures and long wash days I can’t do it every week. I want to use as much of my free time not doing my hair.
@wb48825 жыл бұрын
@@misshoneynevercame4832 I can answer that because I have done so many different things on my hair over the years and experienced both itching and none. I have 4c hair. There was a time I pretty much washed my hair every other day to every 3 days for a year. I also at one point tried cowashing(my hair hated that too), but this was with clay or shampoo. My hair didn't grow for an entire year. I got a lot of matting everytime my hair shed. When I tried at that time to go longer than I week it would itch, as it would be bone dry and all the moisture gone. Also matting was still bad. I started using hair grease instead of sheabutter, gel, etc. I found my hair hold moisture longer. That is when the itching stopped. I also learned that just because I do not wash my hair, does not mean I am not moisturizing and sealing on top of old hair. Recently I had been doing the LCG (section old hair, wet hair, leave in, grease(containing lanolin)). So the person may not be washing their hair, but they are still moisturizing on old hair and sealing it in. That is key. Recently I dont even put the leave in. I just put a tiny amount of grease on the old hair, some 100% lanolin, some water, than lanolin, than water, than grease. Then I band my hair on two sides grabbing and adding hair and twisting the long hair band around it and bun the ends like 2 fake cornrolls. Thats my protective style. I wear a silk scarf over it and wig cap and wig over that when going out. My hair has been consistently growing one inch per month for the past two months. Not did an official shampoo (I never cowash, but I do use conditioner after shampoo) for that past 2 going on 3 months. Oh and my curls curl from the root so when I take out the bands it a very defined stretched washngo. But For the ppl not protective styling, and frankly most type 4's with long hair, they seem to do some variation of the LOC method on old hair inbetween wash days. The ones not growing their hair are the ones that do not think they should moisturize between wash days but they also do not wash their hair often enough to keep up the moisture levels, or their hair is fine stranded and they over compensate wash days to keep moisture levels up, and cause overmanipulation (both have been me). I now never get matting. Shed hair slides out with finger detangling very quickly as I'm applying my next GLWLWG(grease lanolin, water, lanolin water grease). Friction is gone. And I don't take out the bands for 2-3 weeks until it is next time to reappply. I Think I might forgoe shampooing and do water only washing, and shampoo maybe once every 6 months. And I'll only water only wash once every 3 months. It goes without saying that this is completely unrelated to showering, which I do at night and in the morning. My hair doesn't itch at all, where as before, if someone told the old me what I was doing now, I would cringe at how itchy my hair would be. my hair would be itchy in braids like at the end of the week. I also came up with this regimen after watching the african chebe women. I realized after watching an extended video on it, and doing a study of some women who had longer (at least waist to tail bone length) type 4 hair, that it was not the chebe, but the fact that they do not wash their hair, but instead remoisturize it with a version of the LCO method, and braid it up, reapplying on their OLD hair every 5 days. I noticed the same with other longhaired (tailbone, waist) type 4 youtubers. Remoisturizing on old hair, and stretching out wash days, or not having them at all (as with the chebe women). So long as you wet your hair and seal you dont need to really wash it that often. I can't speak on the whole, "not greasing scalp thing." I dont particularly grease my scalp, but I make sure the product gets on my hair from root to tip and smooth down.
