Spit-balling a guess, He's Picard's son with some tweaks. She's staying on the outskirts of Federation space because of his genetically augmented status (Outlawed in the federation). She did some tinkering with his biology to try and correct the genetic defect that Picard's family line seems to have. The Irumodic Syndrome (or I hope to God not, but the Depression from season 2). Possibly she used some DNA from Jack Crusher to both patch up Jean-Luc's DNA and provide more of a full brother to Wes. This could also be used as an explanation for his age. Accelerated growth. Doesn't seem like the shady world they exist in would be a place for a baby, so MAKE MY MONSTER GROW or whatever.

For anyone struggling with Jack’s age, I would love to show you a picture of my 23-year old son. He looks 3 years older than his 45-year old dad. People ask me every day if he’s my boyfriend 😂. I don't know. I have a funny feeling that Jack is a genetic manipulation, a kind of test tube baby. Not a clone though like Shinzon. Look at all the genetic coding they use in the closing credits. Just a thought. I think Ed is doing a great job playing Jack. The actor looks much younger than his 34 years on the planet. I'm north of 50 so he looks like a kiddo to me as well 🤣 Picard may be a role model but I never saw him as a fatherly type. I'm so excited to see how this is all going to play out. #TerryTrek!!!

There is a huge possibility the Beverly family are Q and have been the whole time. (atleast 4 generations are possibly Q) Wesley might even be THE (John Delancy) Q several episodes hints about it (Sub Rosa if i recall episode name one of the big hints)

BTW, book Picard's son's 2nd name is Jacques. Which is French for Jack. Also, Holly wood has a long history of having older actors and actresses play younger characters. Stockard Channing was 33 when she played Rizzo in Grease. Rizzo would have been 17 or 18. I played Kenickie in the community theater production of Grease, at around 35 years of age. It happens. Alot. Throw the age of the actor out the window. Useless to concern yourself about that. Unless it is included as filler.

In "The Naked Now", if Data and Yar were intimate, then Picard & Dr. Crusher could, too...and yes, it explains Dr. Crusher's complete absence from season 2 of TNG.

I tend to think that it happened during her missing year of Season Two also. However Speleers indicates that he is in his 20s. So the other place where he fits in (for me) is after Insurrection. Beverly and JLP both had the Briar Patch biological rollback, which also clearly made for some horn dogs. Is there anything in Nemesis indicating that Beverly is serving on the 1701-E regularly, or is she on-board just for the trip to Betazed? Beverly is a bit old for a child after Nemesis, but a 40-45 year old Beverly in Insurrection, with her clock rolled back to her mid-20s would work. Also, the Briar Patch could make JLP super potent and Beverly super fertile.

Y'all are forgetting that women can be fertile a lot longer in the 24-25th centuries. Jack is not even remotely old enough in appearance to be nearly forty. "The Naked Now" was literally the first episode after the Series Pilot; there was no way that Beverly could have been pregnant that long, but concealed it, for an entire season. Back in the days of TV-only, they tended to have long seasons of 26 episodes as normal.

Fair enough "The Naked Now" may be too soon for Picard and Dr. Crusher to conceive a child, but throughout season 1, the chemistry/vibe between Jean-Luc & Beverly was evident. Remember "The Big Goodbye"? Producers could use Beverly's season 2 absence if done right to explain Jack Crusher in his 30s, knowing he was conceived late in season 1. Remember, the vibe was not there after her return in season 3.

That video aged ....well.... Beverly explains it in detail.... In short... it happens 2 month before Nemesis. When Picard has to fight Shinzon, she decided never to tell him and to leave the ship, to save "her son". Thats why she became head of starfleet medicial in the cut scene of Nemesis

Jack being a 20-something being played by a 30yr old doesn't bother me. As far as I can remember people age differently and sometimes the environment or lifestyle they've led can affect how they look like as time wears on; genetics can play into that as well. Ed Speleers's age is not a dealbreaker. As long as it's addressed when Picard and Beverly had their tryst, and it making sense is all that really matters.

When was the age of Jack mention, on screen? I believe that Jack was born while Crusher was supposedly Head of Starfleet Medical during season 2 of TNG, and was conceived while the Hanky Panky was running amok during the "Naked Now" episode... I was trained to use the Occam Razor: the simplest explanation is most often then not the best explanation.

The more I think about it, the more I think her absence TNG Season 2 is a part of this. They could have gotten together before she left at the end of season 1, given birth during season 2, and just never told Captain Picard. She could have put him up for adoption and then for some reason reunited with Jack between Nemesis and Picard.

My issue with ST:P is none of the previous seasons have been carried over. S1 ended with Picard looking for the android's killer. S2 ended with the "lady in red" walking down the street. Not resolved. I REALLY hope they tie everything up by the end.

Actors who have played roles sometimes play characters that are 10 years younger. Some people look a lot younger than their true age. So no problem with Jack being 24 unless they say he is not that age. Great review!

To me it would be slightly more believable that Jack was born during Dr. Crusher's absence during season 2 of TNG. Beverly could have been pregnant and delivered Jack and possibly left him with family or friends or maybe even given him up knowing how Picard felt about children. If you go by the timeline season 2 would have taken place around the year 2365-ish. That would make Jack closer to 50 but everyone lives longer and looks younger in the 24th century. AND you can always throw some temporal anomaly in there to explain things.

It would not make Jack closer to 50, he would be in his mid 30's. There is something like a two year difference between real time and the TNG/Picard timeline. Last time we saw a year it was 2401 which is 38 years after Picard took command of the Enterprise in 2363. In the real world 2023 is 36 years after the premiere of TNG. A child born in 1988 would be 34 or 35 today. A child born in 2365 would be 36 in 2401

I don’t think Beverly told about her about her pregnancy because…at the time was possibly afraid of his reaction would be, the secret completely destroying their working relationship & friendship. Also she didn’t want the crew finding out their big secret & obviously she still had Wesley to consider. She obviously has her reasons. Let’s be honest it was made very clear in TNG that Picard was a very private man.

I'm sure it is perfectly normal in that era for senior citizens to have babies - but not by accident. I think fans are thinking about Ed Spleers age too much. This is sci-fi remember. Picard is supposed to now be in his 90's but Patrick Stewart is only 82. Another example is his girlfriend that he left at chateau Picard. Laris is Romulan and its know that they have a similar life span to their Vulcan cousins. While actress Orla Brady is 61 her Romulan character could easily be 110-120 years old.

I can't get past it. It's firmly established that life spans are longer in the future, therefore people should age slower. From the dialogue in Episode 3 Jack should be about 20 years old yet they have a 35 year old actor playing him. When the timeline was revealed I thought to myself "there is no way this guy can pass for 20." If that's the direction they wanted to go they should have gotten a younger actor.

I was watching reruns of "The Guardian". The actor who plays Nicholas Fallon is Simon Baker. I thought there was a resemblance between Simon Baker & Ed Speleers. The two actors have very attractive while also very stand out face features! Perhaps Chateau Picard will be passed on to more in the Picard family!

Hi Im blind and the first two seasons of picard are AD (audio described) and when I watched the first episode os season 3 it was not AD however when I came back for the second episode it was AD so I then went back to the first episode and was surprised it was AD, does anyone know why the first EPP had no AD when first released then a week later it was AD?? I just would like to know how this happened and could someone please explain why strange new worlds is not AD? Manythanks blind advocate

Frontier days commemorates the first warp flight. They claim it is 250 years later which would make it 2401. Speelers says his character is 10 years young than him, 23 or 24. Doing the Maths would put his birth in 2376 or 7. Meaning that he would have been a toddler at the time of Nemesis. If Crusher left the Enterprise *before* Nemesis, then her deleted invitation *could* have be a try to bring Picard to mean a then toddler Jack.

The first warp flight was in 2063, which would be 338 years before 2401. 2151 would be the launch of the NX-01 Enterprise (which would jibe with the "frontier" concept. But Frontier Day could be celebrating anything from 2151 - 2155 when the Coalition of Planets was founded which would make Speleers "10 years younger" work out fairly accurately for after the events of Nemesis. It was 2401 in Season 2 of Picard and it does seem time has passed since the events of that season.

I saw this coming. Anyone who paid attention to the last episode of TNG would remember Picard belaying Crusher's order on the bridge of her ship, and how she told him that she wouldn't put up with that type of treatment from either her ex-Captain OR her ex-husband.

I just watched an episode where Crusher got kidnapped because she was a Dr. In one scene before they get rescued and lights go out and she says to Picard thay "if we die I have something to tell you" and nothing was said because of all the happenings. S3Ep.12.

More than just a bit. Former Enterprise captain, now Admiral, receives distress call from former lover (who’s also a doctor) he hasn’t seen in years. Go back and look at Crusher’s coat in the first scene. Same collar as the coat worn by Carol Marcus in TWOK.

RENE JACQUES ROBERT FRANCOIS PICARD. Not all people use their first name. I am, one of those people. With his other 3 names, they can all be shortened, Jacq (jack), Rob (bob) & Frank (franc). Having his name told to us as Jack/q could have been Beverley's preference or his own.

When Picard and Crusher were an item... Wesley used to bring them around the history of the universe in a blue Police Box. Picard's son stayed with Wesley for a decade on one of their side-trips so he returned to Beverly a month later having aged 10 years. It's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey... stuff.

It'd be funny if the pregnancy was the reason Beverly took a year off in season two. 😅 Yeah, I'm sure the timing would be wrong for that, I'm just saying it'd be a heck of an excuse. I'm glad to find that he has a son, it makes me think back to how devastated he was to learn that his brother and nephew perished in the first movie and that the family line ends with him. It still continues after all.

While I'm enjoying the show, how they resolve the mystery of Jack's birth will make or break whether it's a well-told story or just a bunch of exciting fan service. That said, you have to admit that Ed Speleers looks like a grown up version of the little blond kid who played "Thomas Picard" in Generations in the Nexus (although nothing like the grown up actor who played him).

Picard did say he and Beverly did try to be lovers. I wonder if she found out she was pregnant but because of things gonig on with them she took off without telling him?

This seems most likely to me. Post Nemesis, they hook up, he makes her a mix tape of oldies, she gets pregnant. She wants to keep the baby but he has been 100% clear to her that he does not want kids. So she finds a reason to break up and has the baby on her own. Then she realizes there was a very good reason he did not want kids when someone targets her baby. So she goes on the run.
