Star Trek: Picard Series Finale Review - Embracing Legacy and Fandom's Clamoring for a Star Trek: Legacy Series
The beloved Star Trek: Picard series has come to an end after struggling to find its identity during the first two seasons. However, the show finally embraced its legacy in the third season and blossomed into a rich and fascinating story. Fans are now clamoring for a Star Trek: Legacy series, and while some would love to see Jonathan Frakes take the captain's chair, there is still excitement around the idea of exploring Jack's relationships with his father's former crewmates. The impossible can happen if you want it badly enough, as Picard Season 3 has taught us. Even if this is the end of an era, we are grateful for the chance to be a part of it. Thank You Terry Matalas!

That's how the CSB should have done the StarTrek all along! Other Seasons and shows, like Discovery as the worst example, did horribly wrong about what Gene Roddenberry imagined. But Picard Season 3 felt, like the Writers finally decided to follow the Vision, and finally made a great show.

After watching this adventure and getting introduced to Captain Shaw, the scene with Tuvok and Seven was one of the best ever. Here is Seven's mentor Tuvok from Voyager, about to give her the consequences of her actions. Seven who has let her frustrations with Shaw and Star Fleet be clearly known, is about to resign. Out of no where, Tuvok gives us Captain Shaw back for episode 10 and just about has me and does have Seven in tears. And with that, Tuvok in his Vulcan logic perfectly says, "resignation denied! CAPTAIN!" OMG, what a perfect scene.

@@williammitchell4417 actually it's beyond that emotion chip. because that chip was destroyed in their last feature film. Data's emotion is a product of advance android tech by Soon's (if i spelled his name right) ancestor. Which is an acceptable solution because in TNG there was an episode featuring Data's "mom". She was so advance as an android, she herself never knew she wasn't human. Skin, eyes, emotions, hair...etc. So the tech is there. I didn't think Patrick Stewart had a performance like this left in him. To put it bluntly, his age made him seem frail in the early episodes, yet here Stewart shows why he's a legendary Royal Shakespeare Company actor; boy does he bring it! This rivals his great performances, with the intensity of his 2010 Macbeth for which he won the Peabody Award. Stewart joined TNG knowing nothing about the cultural influence of Star Trek or its iconic status. Stewart didn't want to sign the 6 year contract but did as he was sure the show would quickly fail and he'd return to his London stage career with far more money than he made as a Shakespearian actor.

I loved that everyone came back and that everyone seemed to enjoy it. Maybe it took two seasons of Picard to get everyone on board. I know from interviews not every member of Star Trek had good times on set. The original janeway left in a day. I get that sometime work is hard but we do it any way but i felt like after this others that said no might now say yes. Mulgrew was an avid no before but says she’s enjoying it now.
@laurarules3642

I know Patrick Stewart is in his 80's now but you're absolutely right about him looking frail, weak and I hate to say it decrepit in all seasons of Picard. I know growing old is part of life and it will happen to us all (if we are lucky) but you'd think with all the tricks, camera angles, editing and good direction they could reduce it so its barely noticeable. I mean Clint Eastwood is nearly a 100 and he is looking is age but he manages to disguise his age as best he can in his movies. I mean you can't hide how old he looks but he doesn't look tired and exhausted all the time like Patrick . In some scenes it looks like Picard is stumbling about. But then again in The Irishman they used all the latest de-ageing technology of the time to make the cast look younger (I personally thought it just made them look weird) but even though they did look younger in the movie they just couldn't conceal the posture and body language , they had young abnormal computer generated faces but they moved about like OAP's and the scene when Deniro at 80 beats up a man half his age just looks laughable

@shauntempley9757 Жыл бұрын
@@laurarules3642 Having Picard an old man is great for Star Trek. Only here do we always hear of the human experience. There is no greater way of accepting that than showing a character through the course of his adult life when he appears. This not the sequel trilogy of Star Wars. This is more like Power Of The Doctor in every way, including the entire existence of that era.

Outstanding job! It would have been imposible to honor 38 years of Roddenberry legacy for me, but they sure gave it their best effort. i also watched TOS ( live - first run) in the 60's with one of my aunts when i'd visit in summers in Huntington, WV. She was a science ( advanced physics theory) proffesor at Marshall University and and she would make it all seem possible one day from a scientific perspective! She would also be certain to point out the references to societal implications and race, sexism and peace over hate! She helped a 7-9 year old understand completely what Gene was really trying to say! Gene wrote the shows for my generation my Aunt would say! us old people won't change but the lights, strange creatures, phasers and space scenes were there so we'd watch and eventually see that hidden message erupt from the scripts as we grew! Today is a sad day for me but i'll try to go back and remember why Gene started all this and we've so much yet to learn from his message! THANK YOU TO GENE, EVERY CAST MEMBER BACK TO TOS AND OF COURSE MY FAVORITE CAPTAIN SIR PATRICK STEWART YOU'LL BE MISSED

When Seven is ready to resign Jeri Ryan is a brilliant; she's overwhelmed with emotions, yet remains so understated and intense it's remarkable. Shaw of all people makes sure Seven finds her true place in Starfleet as a Captain. It starts out sounding like an insult yet is the highest praise: "She's reckless, she's unrelenting, doesn't give a damn about protocol or procedure, however She is Brave, and Loyal, and the book that she writes it going to be great, and the rules that she breaks, maybe they were broken to begin with". Watching the recording Seven finally understands Shaw. She believed he selected her as First Officer to torture her as an ex-Borg; the truth is very different. People are complicated. Shaw has PTSD because of the Borg, yet he holds Seven in the highest regard. Jeri Ryan and Todd Stashwick are both brilliant actors. Jeri Ryan has said repeatedly in interviews how amazing Stashwick was and how much she loved working with him; the two have already become very close friends.

A huge part of Seven's story is that after she was liberated from the Borg Collective no one outside of Picard and a few others could truly understand her, and many hated her because while they might intellectually say they understood they couldn't truly comprehend what she had been through and forgive her. Yet as the assimilated Titan crew enter the bridge to kill everyone and the signal is broken Seven immediately forgives all of them (which means on some level she finally forgives herself), and now everyone under 25 will say "I am Seven". I live in one of the top 10 worse places to live in the UK. Its full of addicts , crime, poverty and a really miserable place. I'm 44 now but when I was in my late teens or early 20s me and my friends hung about in a local community centre. It was designed to give youths a place to go and keep them off the streets getting up to no good. It had a drama class and only a handful of people ever turned up and we would sit about smoking joints, drinking alcohol and just clowning around. None of us took acting or the arts seriously, if we had a supervisor there (which was rare) they'd force us to do plays and roles and stuff. Anyway one cold and miserable winters night the supervisor was babbling on about a visitor that would be dropping in and none of us paid any attention or cared. Anyway it was Patrick Stewart , none of even knew who he was because we didn't watch Star Trek and I think TNG was only in S1 or S2 at the time . Anyway he exuded wealth and class but was down to earth and great to talk with. We acted a while with him and he left. It was something to do with the performing arts that was funded by the national lottery EDIT: Just realised I replied to the totally wrong person here, sorry about that

Too much to write about this great show, but Frakes as Riker gives us a meta-commentary. Riker is so funny, especially dealing with Worf. To Riker Worf is the ultimate Klingon warrior but his Zen-like quest is mystifying especially as he says crazy things like how they're "friendly energy" and how he will make a threesome with Picard and Riker. It leads to Riker to respond: "do you even hear yourself?" and "we are all going to die", but my favorite is, "I don't understand the world anymore". With that, Riker gives us the ultimate meta-commentary on the awful Star Trek before Terry Matalas.

Good job to Terry, the cast and everyone involved behind the scenes, this entire season was the best Star Trek in 20 or so years. This final episode in particular is an absolute masterpiece, perfect send off for the next generation and opening ways for the new generation. I did feel very emotional many times throughout this episode, I did shed a few tears during that scene with Jack and Jean-Luc aboard the Cube, as well as the last few scenes. The post credits scene in particular made me so happy because I hated what they did to Q in the last season. I really hope we will get a show with Captain Seven, Number One Raffi, Jack and Sidney aboard the Enterprise G going where no one has gone before🖖

Sense they defeated the Borg for the last time. The new Star Trek Series should be about repairing the relations with Changelings and Starfleet. The changelings cause the mess with the borgs and almost cost the planet Earth. There has to be a lot of personal grudges that needs to be repair. Maybe this new show is about taking the new enterprise to the gamma quadrant explore there and them finding away for the Changeling and Starfleet to become peaceful to each other. Like with the klingons.

The results from Enterprise-F with Admiral Shelby's command are no different from other ships in the fleet. Seven's command and Titian did a better job in resisting the Borg compared to Shelby's command. Admiral Shelby's "by the book" approach is not good enough for STO's Battle Group Omega.

They said "Planetary shields are down, space dock has fallen" and it looks like space dock lost it's shields and took heavy damage. Space dock doesn't appear to be destroyed (likely disabled along with the planetary shields) so the Borg can attack their intended target with the highest casualities, the cities of earth. Given the amount of time it takes to build a single ship I don't think they would be able to build something as big as a new Space Dock from scratch in just one year.

Fascinating... as Spock would say. I know that many fans didn't like Season 1 and 2 of Picard, but I immediately absorbed it and recognized its true potential. To me it was a refreshing renewal of old glories, who did bond together with new ones without any effort. Of course the 3rd is the finest of them all, since it has that added thrilling feeling from the start. I certainly didn't expect the finale's outcome, including the coda at the end of the End Titles. I was convinced that our heroes would blast off into a grand finale that meant into oblivion, but lo and behold, surprise surprise, in a twist of fate and in a moment's glance, when one would have expected everyone being consumed into a vast explosion. hence by now, vaporized into space, what we get is simply amazing. I was stunned at the outcome, that to some might seem a bit of a stretch, but to me it was simply a pleasant and comforting revelation. We simply could not loose our dear friends who accompanied us on their adventures throughout these 30+ years. And so there is hope still. Especially hinted by the mentioned "coda" at the end, when a familiar face reappears, that was actually supposed never to return, approached Jack Crusher stating that a new trial was about to begin. Those who know TNG know what I mean. and to me that means, somehow, that there will certainly be a continuation, probably with Seven-of-Nine in a new series of adventures. I am sure that Jeri Ryan would be the ideal new Captain commanding the Enterprise-G, and who knows who else will join her into those adventures. My only hope is for good and original writers to come on board and enthuse us into a completely new set of interesting stories. And again, it might also be that some of our old friends, if not all, will have cameos, or guest starring appearances in it. The formula has revealed itself as successful, and yes, I count to find Kira Nerys, Captain (now Admiral) Janeway, Tom Paris, Quark and Chakotay among others, being dragged into it as well. But everyone knows the saying: "If wishes were horses", and therefore I wouldn't hold my breath on that, and yet miracles are known to happen... so let's wait... These will be the new voyages to seek new life and new civilizations again, and once more explore what man hasn't as yet explored... Make it so! Engage!

I could tell it was him by listening to him, but I didn't see it in the credits. Anton Chekhov (spelled a bit differently) was a playwright. I thought that was an amusing accidental reference. Speaking of which, they might want to rename the USS _Chekov_ to the USS _Pavel Chekov,_ since Anton Chekov will also likely be famous as the President who saw the Federation through Borg Scare 3: The Search for Jack.

What I like about this finale is not only all the Easter eggs within but how they Borg here was a single amalgamated ship with but a few Borg left. If I remember correctly, they were named dropped on a Discovery episode as being gone by the beginning of the 25th Century! So I can now imagine also that one scene on Lower Decks where the children were in class being told of the Epic Engineer Miles O’Brian, with 2 of them being most likely 'Jurati' Borg! On "Q" returning, I would have thought that Wesley should have been there, but IMHO Why not have Q2 instead! The kicker is that he is John Delancie's real son, who played Q2 on Voyager and would have had an interesting change in direction here. I Love this homage to so much Trek over the last 50+ years.

I cried, I laughed, I was filled with awe. Born in 65 I grew up with tos and I never thought anyone could take the place of Kirk as captain of the enterprise but tng won me over and captain jean Luc Picard became captain my captain. I learned so much from star trek. Gene Roddenberry was such a visionary and yet I not sure he could have envisioned what this show has become to so so many people. This was such a fitting end for the the next generation crew yet I think somehow they will still be somewhat involved with the continuation of the new adventures of star trek. I'm already on board for Captain 7 and the new crew of the Enterprise G. This was such a beautiful way to say thank you for all you have done Captain Picard for the lives of millions of people. Seeing that ship brought more tears to my eyes than almost any other scene in the entire show of Picard. Only one last thing to say, Warp core is on line, ship stands at ready. I don't even know that I've settled on Joe. Choosing a name is still so difficult. SEVEN: Tell me about it. _(smiles)_ So, what can I do for you? JOE: I need you and the _Enterprise-_G to come to Starfleet Medical right away. I need help with something, and only you can help me. _Beat while Seven thinks._ SEVEN: Very well. We will see you soon. _The_ Enterprise _warps to Starfleet Medical. SEVEN and RAFFI beam down. THE DOCTOR is waiting._ DOCTOR: Come with me, please. _THE DOCTOR leads them down some hallways, and through a double door._ SEVEN: This is the morgue. DOCTOR: Thank you, Captain Obvious. There's someone here with whom you are well acquainted. _THE DOCTOR opens a drawer to reveal the body of Captain LIAM SHAW._ SEVEN: Captain Shaw! DOCTOR: You're two for two. As you know, he suffered a nasty phaser wound, which was his cause of death. We have had him in cold storage for a year, waiting to give him a hero's burial. SEVEN: You mean, put his corpse in a photon torpedo casing, and shoot him out into space. DOCTOR: Well, not quite. However, I had a different idea. Why can't we revive him, using your nanoprobes? SEVEN: Because, as you know, I can only reanimate necrotic tissue if it's been less than 93 hours. It's been an entire year. DOCTOR: Since we've had him in cold storage, there has been almost no decomposition. Besides, what would you lose? A few nanoprobes? You can just make more. RAFFI: You can bring people back from the dead?? SEVEN: I did it once, to my regret. _(Looks at THE DOCTOR, but is speaking to RAFFI.)_ I'm not in any hurry to do it again. RAFFI: Why not? You could give him his life back, since he gave it to protect you and your friends. All of us. SEVEN: The last time I did it, one of _my friends_ had his entire belief system thrown into chaos. I don't want to do that to Captain Shaw. RAFFI: Why not let him make that decision? SEVEN: By the time he's able to make that decision, it will already be too late. RAFFI: We could always just kill him again. SEVEN: Not funny. RAFFI: Wasn't supposed to be. _More tired of RAFFI arguing with her than anything else, she puts her right fist up to SHAW's neck. Tubules extend from her hand to his neck. Grey lines decorate SHAW's face for a moment, then disappear. After a beat, he gaspingly inhales, and opens his eyes another beat later. SHAW looks around, obviously confused._ SHAW: Where...where am I? The last thing...I was on the _Titan,_ and... _(Shaw puts his hand on his chest to find the phaser wound healed. He looks up and sees SEVEN and RAFFI. Says, more to SEVEN than RAFFI) What are you doing here? _THE DOCTOR interrupts._ DOCTOR: We brought you back from the dead. SHAW: How long was I...? DOCTOR: A year. You didn't miss much. Just Picard and his crew saving the entire galaxy, with Seven's help, of course. You were a hero. You _are_ a hero. You gave Picard and his crew the time they needed, to escape. SHAW: How did you bring me back? DOCTOR (in an uncharacteristic moment of humility): I didn't. Seven did. She used her nanoprobes to heal your injury, and bring your vital functions back online. SHAW: BORG nanoprobes!? _A look of discomfort shows on Seven's face._

You were undoubtedly right about this season being very good. And certainly Matalas was the right man for producing it. But about him being the right man to make future Trek I think you're wrong. We need someone capable of doing the Roddenberry bold move of taking us to an advanced future, and not keep obsessing with the past and keep tying everything to it. And we also need a showrunner who love futuristic ship looks instead of despising them. What he did to the Enterprise-F was shame, very disrespectful. And making the Enterprise-G an old ship with that renaming was a step too much too, doing a disservice to the titan as well.
