About Etta May:
Etta May has performed her brand of clean-comedy on Oprah, Showtime, Comic Strip Live, MTV, and as a guest commentator on “CBS Sunday Morning,” Winner of the prestigious American Comedy Awards “Comic Of The Year,” and so much more. In addition, she headlines the successful all-female comedy tour, “Etta May and the Southern Fried Chicks,” selling out theatres all over the country. Think Blue Collar Comedy Tour with better hair and a bigger attitude! In addition to television, Etta May is a regular on Sirius-XM Comedy Channels and the syndicated Bob & Tom radio show.
Born and in Bald Knob, Arkansas, Etta May grew up alongside nine older brothers, who referred to their baby sister as “the human sacrifice.” Etta May’s parents - her father, a potpourri farmer, and her mother, bedridden by constant childbearing - didn’t realize she was a girl until she needed a training bra.
She met her husband, Delbert, an aspiring truck driver, at a friend’s kegger. From across the yard, their eyes locked in a loving look, you know that stare that lasts a moment too long. Nine months later, she was blessed with a boy, and three more kids followed. “That’s where my comedy comes from. I just wait for my husband or kids to do something stupid, and then I write it down.”
Before finding success as a stand-up comic, Etta wandered from dead-end job to dead-end job, including a 10-year stint as a school bus driver. She says she learned how to handle unruly kids by Armor-Alling the seats and slamming on the brakes all the way to school. Her theory: “Kind of hard to pick a fight with the kid in front of you when you’re just holding on for dear life.”
Then she decided to take a chance on herself and follow her dream. Lots of hard work and drive, and a few years later, she wins “Female Comic Of The Year” at the American Comedy Awards. It’s the American Story we are all told that you can become anything you set your mind to in this great country, and for Etta May, it worked!

My parents found out that my brother and I were being bullied at school and my dad taught us how to throw a punch. The rule they gave us was “ don’t you ever start a fight, but if some one hits you, put them on the ground.” It didn’t take long before the bullies left us alone.

Had a similar situation my dad's advice to me was fight if you have to, you may get in trouble at school but not from me. Once they found out that I was willing to fight back they left me alone.

I started 1st grade at age 4,in Nov. I turned 5, and from 1st grade all the way through 12th I was bullied and disliked. When time came for our class reunion I told everyone that contacted me " I spent 12 years around you all and was not liked by anyone, why would I pay $75.00 to spend the evening around you all again ? " I went out to dinner alone and enjoyed some live country music and had money left.

I basically did the same except I let them know on the Facebook group they set up. I had alot of people come forward saying the same people who bullied me bullied them as well and they were glad someone finally came out and said something. I only wish I had said something when it was happening.

I don’t go to my high school reunions (nor would I go to community college reunions if such a thing existed). Instead, I travel somewhere alone. My take on class reunions is this: If I haven’t tried to contact someone at all in the past 5+ years, there’s probably a reason for that.

😂... that's great! I was bullied all the way through school. But I was quiet and shy and didn't do anything. Looking back I wish I had.

Loved this story ❤🙌🥹 What a good dad ❤️🙌 It’s sad how once you grow up you can see the bully probably came from a not so good home with not so good life ❤ when we are kids we only think of our own problems 🙌❤️ I personally hope Brenda Brown learned some valuable lessons because there are millions of Brenda Browns in middle schools all over the world !!!!! ❤🙏❤️🙌

I understand... I was bullied too.. By older sisters.... They told everyone I was the milkman's daughter, and had a penis. I would take off running, slamming the screen door, and go for blocks with my Dad at a short distance behind me. The last time, I ran away, a Doberman was also following me. I heard my Dad's change rattling in his pocket, and the Doberman's chain collar. Never feared my Dad, feared my mother would whip me for banging the screen door so hard. Sitting on the curb, next to me, was my Dad. I cried beaucoup! He sat and waited, til I stopped crying. He was a 10 meter diver, football player, boxer, and wrestler. He carried me home, silently. No one ever saw him get mad. Grown, I remembered telling my mother everything, daily. My sisters didn't want me spilling the beans. Glad my precious mother lived to be almost 99. She was my precious listener.

As a person with autism, I’ve been bullied not only at school but I was also bullied out of every job I ever held in the past. I know precisely what you went through, ma’am. I do have quite the “revenge” story with one of those bullies. So, here goes: When I was a kid, I had a bully (we’ll call him Brad for this story) and he used to pin me against the wall demanding my lunch. This went on, day after day, until one day, I eventually decided I had enough. I got tired of going home from school hungry because of Brad and his shenanigans, and I soon discovered a bottle of extremely powerful laxatives stashed in a medicine cabinet at my house. So, I had the smarts to set up a trap. I packed TWO lunches-one for me, one for Brad. When packing Brad’s lunch, I mixed in the ENTIRE contents of the bottle of laxative-every last drop. The next day at lunch, as if on cue, Brad pulled his usual ploy for my food, I handed him his lunch, and he gobbled every last bite. I’ll bet you can see where I’m going with this one. In just 2 minutes, Brad rapidly stood up and was about to run to the bathroom but didn’t even make it out of the mess hall before we all heard (and saw) this explosion come from his pants. Brad pooped his pants in front of everybody in the mess hall. And because there was no evidence that I was the one who spiked his stolen food with laxatives, I never got in trouble with the school. But, understandably, that particular bully never picked on me again-nor stole another lunch-after that.

My oldest in 2001 was a champion wrestler n judo. He was small n wirey, but quick. He had mentioned a problem at the middle school, when he came home with a black eye. His dad being the HS wrestling coach in the same district told him. To stand up for himself and "I'll back you on it". Huzz was 3'rd shifter so the principal rang him at home. Dean went in. As the other kid, 6 ft tall was being loaded in the ambulance. All banged up. He told the school, "hey, WE don't have a problem. YOU have a problem" and how our son's black eye was from that huge kid yesterday, now in the ambulance. YOU can't handle the bully, HE DID. He defended himself. And he will NOT be suspended!" And then huzz took him to burger King.😂 Then the ER cuz son broke the metacarpals in his right hand. And baseball was just around the corner.😂😂😂

I know how you feel. I was bullied off every job I ever held thus far. That’s why once I start working again, I am getting out of debt as fast as possible and saving at least half my net income in a high-yield savings account, so I can retire early if needed.
