True that. I do remember owning a 2008 BMW 530xi a few years ago, and the latest Bentley Shop Manual actually listed all the things likely to fail on it !!! Unless he can expose the dealer the money is most certainly gone and never coming back. If he can get the dealers attention by sharing this video and letting the public know the name of the dealership he might have a chance or call Ford and share it with them to see if they can make it happen.
@Ridinfixinman

Why would he need a full refund? Almost certainly the engine needed guides/chains/phasers/oil pump - an extremely common problem and remedy. The problem in this video is that they didn't do enough.. It should have been all the above plus followers and probably camshaft too (I say probably because it was probably already bad when it rolled into their shop)
@Ridinfixinman
@Ridinfixinman 2 жыл бұрын
@Max Power the difference between your problem and his is that you didn't need transmission work, you needed electrical work. This guy most assuredly needed all the work performed AND additional work. If he would have taken it to fordtechmakuloco, he would have recommended/performed all the work previously done by the dealer and because he is more thorough, he would have done followers/cam. The owner of the truck really wasn't screwed out of money, they just didn't fix all that was wrong.

@captainsergeant
@captainsergeant 2 жыл бұрын
@@bustacapp359 There was. My engine was getting noisy, and had timing chain slap. Once I tore into it, I found I had the old style timing chain tensioners with the bad gaskets. The tensioner gaskets were blown out, and the chains had all sorts of play in them. In order to get to that point, you've torn the whole front end of the engine apart, so I replaced everything with Ford parts. The only exception was the oil pump (melling) and the tensioners. I went with the metal Melling ratcheting units instead of using the Ford tensioners.
@D2O2
@D2O2 2 жыл бұрын
@@captainsergeant I did this as well at about 180k miles. Had cold start chain rattle. Once I got into it, found blown out passenger tensioner and broken passenger chain guide. Did complete timing set with melling ratcheting iron body tensioners, high volume pump (MH340), pick-up tube, phasers and solenoids. Cam/followers/adjusters all looked good so I reused them. I am at 230 now and thinking about going back and replacing the adjusters and followers like I probably should have to begin with. Cheaper now then later plus a cam or head.

SOUNDS to me like my 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan did when a rocker arm failed twice on it. After the second failure I disconnected the wires to the oil pump that would throw it into low range once the engine got warmed up when driving down the road. Previously I had about 25 oil PSI at highway speeds, now I have about 65 PSI when driving down the road! I also went from the factory recommended 5x20 oil to 5x30 oil. Since the alterations I have been driving it for about a couple years and it works like a charm!!! I wonder if the Fords also have a high and low position on their oil pumps?

Nice work. Can't believe the dealer let this truck leave the shop the way they did. We have a '05 Civic coupe that we got as a lease return in '08. Wifes car later mine a few years ago (got her a nice '17 Civic, another lease return). Hadn't turned 90 k yet but happily gave it the 90 k service. I'm thinking a couple of months ago that the transmission is acting up (whine, sloppy downshifts, etc). As expensive as the dealer was, i figured i'd bring it to a local transmission shop that did good work for me years ago. Almost dropped the phone when he said it was the cacalytic converter. HUH?!? Ok, do it. He was right. This is just a few weeks ago and i'm overjoyed every time i drive it. Not even 95k yet. Smooth sailing ! Even without todays gas prices, i'd be in love. Its a great car.

What's amazing is that this vehicle's engine has 150k miles. I must be getting old, but it doesn't owe the owner anything if they are the original owner and it's paid for. However, it's a Lariat trim and the undercarriage is not too rusty for a northern (i'm assuming) vehicle. So it's worth it to repair, IMO. Plus the price of new vehicles is insane, especially for the Lariat trim. It's outstanding that there are experts like this gent that can diagnose/pinpoint the issue and then repair it with relative ease. As they say, "Ask a Man who knows" (and then happily pay him for his knowledge).

A Ford truck at 150,000 owes the owner a lot still. you can't expect to say with that many miles, it's paid for itself. I have 350,000 miles on my Ford F150 5.4 3 V engine. Never changed a thing on it. It's all original...everything EXCEPT the starter that had to be replaced at 190,000. Never did a timing job, never any roller followers, etc. It was never opened up for anything. I put in Royal Purple fully synthetic oil 5W-30, and usually a WIX filter, or Motorcraft filter. Orininal muffler, tailpipe, brake lines, catalyic converter. Yes, to brakes, tires, and batteries, and repaired the contacts on the power window buttons. Does it tick a little...yes, a little, but it doesn't sound like a diesel or even as bad as this white truck. What does this truck owe me? At least another 50,000 miles...then I'll have reached my goal. It runs great, and I use it for business everyday pulling an open 16 foot trailer hauling mulch and soils. Best truck I've ever owned.I paid $24,000. And it's been on the road for 17 years with never a breakdown. Original transmission, never slipped or anything else. Just routine fluid changes, and filter changes. Maybe it's because I never followed the owners manual for mileage milestones...always shorter intervals. What does this tell ya? I'm proof.

@@Powerwagon563 I live in Michigan, north of Detroit 60 miles. We have so much salt in the air, wave a meatball on a fork, and it's good to eat. Used to be that everyone buying a new car took it to Ziebart to have it rust protected. Later, the dealer salesmen would say, It's no longer necessary to undercoat.... so I didn't any longer. It comes with the factory undercoat. Frame still looks pretty darn good. When the truck was about 15 years old, it did begin showing signs of rust only around the wheel wells. I must also say that I don't usw the truck in winter as its a work truck and I do landscaping...so I store it outside still exposed to all the rain and snow, but no salt. Just got it out of storage status, insured, and new plate tabs today, April 26, '22. I only waxed it twice in 17 years, and it still looks pretty darn good. The rust around the wheels is very evident...and slightly embarrassing, but it's a work truck, so I don't care. It's making money for me. But the mechanics is top notch, and no internal problems at all. I do use fully synthetic oil, and change about every 6,000. Transmission, original, and hits the marks.

Cam roller follower issue is a big bummer ($$$). I too had a chronic tic (drivers side) on my ‘07 F150 5.4L. Bought it that way with 125k in ‘16 as a wrench told me it was just a fuel injection tic- run cleaner. Did that for hundreds of miles and the tic never left. From purchase to now (167k), had several plugs changed at a Ford garage or private service until I recently suffered a bad engine miss. My now normal wrench checked it out (diagnostic) and said one bad plug, one bad coil and one loose plug. He recommended an entire plug change (with coil) and Champion’s one-piece plug for Tritons. I also asked him to check on the tic issue. Once he installed the new plugs- VIOLA, no more tic. It never ceases to amaze me the current state of (lack) customer service and how important it is to have a good wrench you can trust.

It's funny to think back. I worked for Ford when the 'Modular' engines were first introduced. The MKVIII and big cars etc. Yes I'm old... Early on, depending on issue(s) we took the the whole engine out to be sent back to Ford for dissection /inspection. The didn't want us opening them up. Not a lot, but we were putting exchange engines the cars . Tech's can't be dofuss. There is important Detorque/ Torque procedures to follow. I remember Timing Chain Tensioners as they are oil fed. We love our 4.6 Truck.... change that oil, maintain and take care of your stuff. ALL Cars and Trucks whatever the brand, have their quirks. The trick is to learn, catch them early if possible , fix it (properly) and drive.

I had problems with Selig Ford Dealership in West Allis Wisconsin with my brand new 1975 F-250 4X4. The engine had a noise when cold on a 360 V-8. The dealership finally heard the noise I got a new bare block, they claimed the line bore was bad on original block. I had other issues that the dealership failed to repair. I finally fixed myself the lock out hubs wouldn't always engage. I pulled them apart and polished a snap ring that the castle gear had to travel over to engage, and after I repaired that they preformed flawlessly. I never cared much that 360 V8. I had a 390 in my 1972 F-250 Camper Special, the 390 was a Beauitful Engine and far more powerful and quick. Both trucks had manual 4 speed transmissions .

If the Ford dealer is anything like the one I dealt with, it was not properly fixed because they are counting on brand loyalty to lock in future income from their mark. Either by waiting for the mark's engine to self destruct, then the mark can't help himself from buying a new Ford because that's the way his mind has been programmed from birth ( 'cause Dad had Fords or whatever), or by the half-assed repaired engine lasting long enough before it blows so they can make bank when he pays them to put in another.
