Pajamas can help your toddler learn HUNDREDS of words.
You don't need fancy toys, flashcards, or apps to help your toddler learn to talk.
Use things you already have around your house.
This video is an at-home toddler learning activity. I share how pajamas helps toddlers learn new vocabulary.
Hey! I’m Adrienne, Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist from LearnWithAdrienne.com and you want to help your child:
☀️communicate clearly
☀️listen well
☀️gain life skills
Speech and language strategies used in this video:
☀️verbal routines
☀️modeling
☀️labeling
☀️nouns, verbs, adjectives
☀️repetition
☀️sensory exploration
☀️joint attention
In my KZbin videos, I teach a variety of strategies to help children learn to talk, but in my online class for children, I teach much more in-depth, revealing the actual step-by-step system I use with my own speech therapy clients to get them from saying only a handful of words to talking in sentences and having conversations. My online class is structured with checklists and printouts where you can track your child's progress.
So zooming out, my KZbin videos teach the “what” and my online class teaches the “how.” The goal of the online class is to give you the skills needed to plug in the speech strategies into your daily life with your child and to implement the building blocks, strategies, and concepts during meal time, car riding time, play time, outdoor time, etc.
Here is more info about the class so you can see if it would be a good fit for what you are looking for with your child.
The Steps to Help Your Child Learn To Talk: www.learnwitha...
P.S. For safety, always fully supervise your child when doing activities that I recommend in my videos.
Video Description: How do I get my toddler to follow directions, to obey, to listen to me? In this video Adrienne, a Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist who works in Early Intervention, shares tips for getting toddlers to learn new vocabulary. Using simple toddler activities, parents, caregivers, teachers, and speech-language pathologists can learn how to help your toddler talk more and understand more language so that they can communicate better. These tips are helpful so that they will be prepared and ready for preschool, kindergarten, and life beyond the classroom. These tips are strategies for parents, caregivers, grandparents, babysitters, childcare professionals, and speech therapists that you can apply right away with your toddler. Strategies include: following directions, comprehension, repetition, colors, vocabulary expansion, verbal routines, and prepositions.

Thank you for introducing how to help kids learn words through the little things in our daily life which I haven't thought can be linked with language learning. I am a TESOL student and I am interested in early childhood language learning. It is important for parents to create a language-friendly environment for their kids. I really appreciate your series of daily things that help kids learn and It is easily accessible for the parents. As for the pajamas, I think kids are easy to learn from them because they love the images and colors on them. In that way, parents can take kids' hands to feel the pajamas by introducing the parts of the pajamas.

Thank you for another great video! I credit you for helping my daughter, who just turned 18 months, with her language. She can now say her ABCs, count to 10, say and spell her name as well as says hundred and hundreds of words. I used tips from your videos starting quite awhile back, they and you are amazing! She now brings me books everyday that she wants me to read to her. We don't do screen time and I think that is also key. I take her on stroller walks and point out things we see and repeat, repeat repeat words throughout the day. I also speak often in simple or just two word phrases. She says a very small number of two word combinations right now. Thank you again for instilling the love of language in my toddler. I will continue to be an advocate of your channel, recommending it to moms I come across on forums and social media. Cheers!

You are so kind...thank you for your sweet comment! It's hard when our kids don't pay attention, but just realize that whenever you are talking to your child, even if he or she isn't looking at you, they are still absorbing what you are saying. Just like we can listen to the radio while we wash dishes or listen to a podcast while cleaning, kids can play while listening to what we say. Every word you say is planting a seed of communication :)

Thanks, Adrienne, your details are great! Yes, clothes should be a big part of learning languages. When I teach young kids in my class, we always talk about our clothes...colors, fabrics, reading the tag, etc....One thing I can recommend for parents is specifically choosing clothes that have lots of pictures, designs, and/or English already printed on - so you can talk even more!

This is great. I’ve been using your methods on my 18 month old who only has 2 words (No and Coco)...I was wondering about your thoughts on screen-time? She actually says coco for Cocomelon that she loves to watch on KZbin. It’s so hard to limit her screen time in this pandemic, and when she says COCO I feel bad not granting her wish.

Definitely will use this! My daughter just turned 1 and is a babling queen lol so I'm sure with the right tools like this we can get that first word soon! Although she has said da-dee (daddy) a few times because those have always been her favorite syllables. I did t watch your book reading video yet but when I try to read to my daughter she just wants to take the book out of my hands and flip through it herself. If we are both on the floor I'll sit a little away from her so she can't reach it but then she'll see something else like another book and go for that. Any tips on how I can read a whole book to her with her full attention? Or is it just something she'll have to grow out of?

Hey Jessica! Great to hear from you! I'd recommend watching the videos in my "Reading to Toddlers" playlist and the strategies I teach there will help you. Also, google "attention spans for 12 month olds" to adjust your expectations about how long her attention span should be...its a lot shorter than you may think! :)

Wow thank so much. That's really good idea. I'm from Indonesia and been watching your videos since I was pregnant 😅 My baby is turning 19 months this July and she understands quite a lot of instructions and words. But the words she says still not 50 words yet. She likes describing things with onomatopoeia. But is that something I should worry about?

I have a two year old daughter who is very behind in her speech. I’ve been doing the techniques you teach in your videos, blue prints and had her in speech therapy before the pandemic but have seen very little progress. Would you have any tips on how to motivate child to speak as a toddler? I can see she is getting very frustrated with not being able to communicate and if I’m being honest, I’m getting very frustrated not being able to help. Any advice would be helpful!
4 жыл бұрын
Hi, as a pediatric speech-language pathologist, I highly recommend that you try to get your child back into speech therapy (even if it's via telehealth right now because of the pandemic). A therapist that is assigned to your child can really tailor strategies that work best for you and your family so you'll hopefully see some progress. Hope this helps!

Hey Court Mart! So glad you are enjoying the videos! It sounds like you are doing a great job of looking for resources that will help your 2 year old daughter learn to talk! You are definitely on the right track. After reading through your specific question, there are so many things that you can try to help your child talk more. I tried the food project with my nephew today. He grabbed the whole box. He didn't want to do academics. He pointed for me to leave. Then I went to the front yard. And then he came out to the front yard, running in front of me. We ran and ran. Then we came back inside. And then I only grabbed the lemon and ice cream. Then I said lemon or ice cream. He wanted the lemon. He is 3.5 but still doesn't talk fluently. Any magic formula to make him talk in 2 weeks? That's my goal. I'm trying really hard to help him.
@Beyourbest88
@Beyourbest88 3 жыл бұрын
It seems like he is looking for gross motor stimulation (running). Perhaps try to introduce that more often and then he may be more receptive to talking and having a conversation after he’s gotten some of his energy out. Also, children notice when we are trying to get them to do something, so creating a warm, kind, peaceful, patient environment where they feel comfortable making mistakes is also important :) Sometimes little ones get shy with us! And it’s important to make a safe space where we are inviting them to interact and be with us but aren’t pressuring them since they can clam up and become unresponsive. Good luck!
