I assume you're from Canada. Growing up in Toronto, multi-lingual households were the norm. Growing up in the 90's French classes were simply an academic milestone; virtually no one actually learned french from those classes or the french immersion school. I ultimately learned to speak french once I left the country, but grew to appreciate how culturally rich and diverse the Canada I grew up in was.

I grew up speaking German and Spanish with German being my dominant language. After years of living abroad, I feel most comfortable speaking English though. I live in Canada and am about to have a child with a Canadian. We are planning to raise our child English/German but it is also important to me that it will be exposed to Spanish as that is just part of my identity. Do you recommend that I speak both German and Spanish to my child or introduce Spanish later? My partner unfortunately only knows English. When I zoom out and imagine my child in 20 years I want him to be fluent in all 3 just like me :D

Totally up to you! I think if it were me, I would think about the contexts of who in the extended family speaks what languages. For example, if grandparents and aunts and uncles all speak mainly German when you’re with them, it seems like starting with German and introducing Spanish later could be an option. Or if your best friend speaks Spanish and you know she will be around your family a lot, then it would make sense to speak both German and Spanish. Children are great at code switching based on who they are talking to. You really can’t make a wrong decision. You can also start one way and then change your mind over time. Best wishes as you figure out what works best for your family!! Exciting to have so many options of languages!

Awesome! I was a bilingual public school teacher for 15 years, mostly first and second grades. I was amazed to see Spanish speaking only children learning to speak and read English in a single year in my classroom, while continuing to enrich their native language through content area instruction in Spanish. One of the secrets of my success was the use of the 1987 Riverside Basal Reading program that systematically taught high frequency vocabulary in interesting stories with repetition of the target words. I now do private tutoring using the 1938/1957 Alice & Jerry reading program. I also taught SEE (Signing Exact English) to my bilingual students for reinforcement.

I particularly love the content on systematizing your week in order to be more spontaneous with other things that bring you joy. I also love how she encourages mothers to pursue hobbies in the midst of motherhood. Getting to create a intentional family atmosphere of love, peace and joy is truly a beautiful thing

I love the GIADC, it is like a curriculum for moms to learn to run their homes. I seriously wish it had been around when I was a new mom 12 years ago! There have been tons of things I have learned from Katy and her mom, but what resonates the most with me is running my home like a business to leverage time in order to spend it with my kids. This has been a huge game-changer for me as I now have 7 children.

The GIADC has given our family the gift of peaceful "being with" during a season that could be chaotic. With 3 little babies 3 & under and one on the way at the end of this year, we are so grateful for Katie (& Elisha's) creation of this community. When I joined, I had no idea that the clubhouse existed, and this platform made it possible for me to completely delete my other social media accounts and invest my intentional online time into a community of like-minded, Christ centered, intentional women who desire to pour themselves out for their families and husbands as Christ did for us (Philippians 2:7-8). Thank you, Katie & Elisha for creating a platform and practical life insight that gives back to our family the gift of margin to invest in relationship with Christ, so that I can then outpour from HIS well of living water. By grace alone! Grateful is an understatement!

I joined when I had just had my 3rd baby and here we are two years later with baby number four and I am still using so many of these systems. One of the most recent ones being meal prep! I have been following Katie for years now and her content truly changed my life. It gave me a vision for family, It made me fall love with being a mom, being a homemaker and being a wife. It's crazy for a couple years now people have been saying to me I radiate with joy and then the Now that We're a Family KZbin channel always comes up in conversation. As a gift my husband got me to get it all done club and I've been blown away with the experience. The women on there are incredible and the extra content Katie keeps providing is amazing. Truthfully, the thing that has changed my life the most is all their book recommendations and her interviews with her mom. Also in the get it all done club setting up an afternoon quiet time and also starting dinner around lunch has been a game changer too. 😊

Hi Adrienne!! I’m so glad you are partnering with the GIADC! I’ve been a member for about 3-4 years I can’t remember when I joined 😅 but it’s been the best thing ever!! writing dates on leftover containers with dry erase 🤯 genius! I’m also so excited to learn more about your sign language class!!!
@LearnWithAdrienne
@LearnWithAdrienne 4 ай бұрын
Oh man, writing dates on leftover containers with dry erase-amazing, right? It's those little tips and tricks that make all the difference in our day-to-day routines! I previously used a piece of tape and sharpie, but then I thought about how I used to write my to-do list on my mirror with dry erase and one day I tried it on tupperware and it worked so well! Let me know if you have any questions about the sign language class :) I am in the process of potentially tweaking it a bit it to be more geared toward homeschoolers specifically (originally, I branded it for my fellow Speech Language Pathologists back in 2016 so they could use sign language with their speech therapy clients)...so email me at [email protected] if you have interest in the homeschooling version of the class specifically :)

We now moved from Brazil to France a year ago. I am noticing my boys pick up more French words than Portuguese. We established with my husband to speak at home in Portuguese. I am speaking to them in both languages, but my mother keeps telling me that I can only speak to them in French and my husband can speak to them in Portuguese. But it’s feels inatural to speak only French with my boys. I was raised with Portuguese all the languages of love was in Portuguese to me and it feels strange to say it in French. I loved your videos it really clarified a lot for me thank you!!!

I speak Portuguese and French, I was raised in France and I learned Portuguese with my mother, as she is Brazilian. At home I would speak Portuguese, and I would speak French at school and with my father (he is French). I learned English at school initially but when I was 20 years old I moved to London to study, and lived in the Uk for 10 years. So today I speak Portuguese, French and English. I have twin boys they are 2 years old. I spoke to them both languages French and Portuguese since they were born.

Wow Adrienne I'm so glad I stumbled across your channel! Thank you so much for your videos and free guide! What a wealth of great resources for parents wanting to raise bilingual kids. I've been trying to work out the best way to do this with my 9 month old. I am native in and most comfortable with English, I also speak French and Arabic. French comes more naturally than Arabic, especially language around the home. I want to be able to connect with my bub on the languages that feel most natural. The thing is, we are living in an Arabic speaking country until he is 2.5 years. I see this as a great time to introduce him to a new language. I know I'm spoiled for choice here I just can't work out if I will confuse him by speaking French, Arabic and English over the next critical two years. His dad and older siblings speak English with limited Arabic. My 10 year old wants to learn French too.
