As a long-time Dune fan who could tick all the necessary boxes for "feeling in the right to gatekeep the franchise from new fans", I absolutely love how popular the movies ended up being. I fully expected the film adaptation to be a niche success and just be glad it was made at all, and now I'm so glad to see it's become a global phenomenon, memes everywhere. I simply love Dune and want everyone to know about it! Not to mention that now it's even easier for me to discuss the books with other people, because they've seen the movies and are now familiarized with the story and curious about the lore.

It makes shit people feel good. You can insert this with any fanbase or any media. Sometimes in some instances as well when those things get popular/go beyond their end they get ruined/tarnished change. I mean thins literally happened with Dune with the sequels and prequels. Dune should have ended with 6, Harry Potter should have ended with the final books, Amazon should have not gotten LOTR, Star wars should have ended years ago. The list goes on.

It’s because the first one was a high-concept speculative slow-burn political drama, like Game of Thrones but without the sex. Dune 2 is a bombastic action movie with cgi explosions out the ass and a comically heavy-handed religious metaphor. @@R0S3inC0NCR33TI never claimed you said it was bad I just reject the idea that it is in any way heavy handed with the religious themes. You can’t honestly tell me the Bene Gesserit were more subtle in the first movie, they literally appear for ten minutes, explain their plans in the most obvious way possible, and leave. Dune One, while very good, was not at all slow burn imo. Slow burn is like a gasoline trail that you drag a match closer and closer to, and finally light up. Dune One was a giant gasoline pile that you stared at for two hours and then finally it exploded, then died ten minutes later. I’m rambling now but if you want an answer as to why Dune Two is so much better received than the first one, it has very little to do with the action or pacing and everything to do with how rare it is for a sequel to improve on almost everything the first one did by this much.

Kwisatz Haderach is the Bene Gesserit term for their "chosen one" that they are trying to create with their breeding program. Specifically one who will survive the spice agony (in the movie it's the part where they take the water of life...it's known to be lethal to men) that would be able to unlock their genetic memory from both the female and male lineage (the reverend mothers only unlock access to the female line) and who would have perfect sight of past, future and present.

Big fan of Denis since Prisoners. I remember when everyone was trashing Bladrunner 2049 up to release with the same old "Hollywood is out of ideas" rhetoric. I think that movie opened up a lot of people's eyes to his skill. Saw Dune in Imax at the very first show, there were 10, maybe 20 people tops. Saw it in Imax a second time during its last show. It was almost sold out. Usually the kind of stuff displayed in your video annoys me but it just didn't here. The growth this series has had in popularity seems incredibly natural, something which hasn't happened since the jump between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, or, on a smaller scale, Knive's Out. They're great movies with interesting worlds that are coming out in a time when most big movies don't seem interested in either of those things. They are three years apart, as opposed to several months, so lots of new people had time to experience the first movie. The actors are even bigger stars now than they were in 2021, so more eyes are on their projects. People were still afraid of COVID in 2021. You (rightly) make fun of it, but No Way Home was the first big return to theaters. There are a lot of reasons why Part 1 did not hold the same interest as Part 2, but Denis has finally broken into the mainstream. Part 2 was his Dark Knight moment. I can guarantee that The Batman 2 is going to go through the same thing, so if you do get annoyed by bandwagoners, you have two years to prepare.

This is true. I kept telling my family and friends to see Dune, and they were like "ehh wth is that? Some Star Wars knock off?" And now everyone is about it. This also occurred with Game of Thrones back in 2011-2013. It truly shows you how prominent the sheep-like mentality is among the masses and will only entertain the thought of something once it becomes mainstream.
