Gilmour's guitar work on this album is so creative and emotional. There are parts where it's just searing, screaming rage, and others where it's plaintive, longing melancholy. There's a bit on Dogs where he does three short sequences - each one a different tone and style - and it's one of my favorite moments in all of Floyd music.

@@cancercentral9997 i think he means from a pop and public POV.
@cancercentral99973 жыл бұрын
@@BloodySanjit I see, but still I wouldn't really call it underrated. Atom Heart Mother is underrated I think, especially by the band members. While Atom Heart Mother Suite isn't as good as Echoes, Dogs, or Shine On You Crazy Diamond, it is still often overlooked. But still, the album that does deserve hate is Ummagumma. I think it was just a load of shit, and I got bored and gave up 2 tracks in (excluding Careful With That Axe, Eugene, the only song from disc one I listened to) because it just seemed like on the piano piece, Wright was just mashing on the piano with not much musicality. I may listen to it again, but I don't know if I'll last. Then there were pretentious pricks in the comment section (to be fair, that is for every Pink Floyd comment section) praising it, one person mentioned a bunch of classical pianists and claimed that people would've loved it if it was by them, but because its from Pink Floyd people hate it. When its the opposite, and people praise it because its Pink Floyd. Keep in mind, I don't mind experimental music. King Crimson is a master of what I think Ummagumma was going for. Larks' Tongues in Aspic is what I imagine Pink Floyd wanted, but instead they made Ummagumma. But anyways, thanks for reading this dogshit and pointless novella. Sorry for wasting your time. And by then, Sid who was initially making music before being let go, Roger became the natural successor. I know Sid visited the studio Floyd was busy making the Wish You Were Here album. If he still had any real grasp of anything, he'd have been floored hearing the band recording the Animals album. I myself love Animals over every other album, but not implying anything before or after isn't spectacular. Animals was very aggressive when you read the lyrics; especially on the song Pigs.

I think Waters merely simplified a complex situation- and he did it in his favor. Two of the songs were worked on by the entire band live throughout 74 and 75 so to say that Waters brought in the completed songs all by himself compared to what was started in 74 is bit of a lie. It's like taking the bridge music the band added to live Childhood's End in 73, making it the main theme of the Wall and claiming "I, Roger Waters, wrote that." Up to Dark Side, the band was a lot better at handing out credit on the "Work in progress" tracks {Gilmour, Mason, Waters, Wright} but it all went "me, ME, ME!!!" until it was just "All me, you guys played."

'Gotta Be Crazy' and 'Raving and Drooling' had been written sometime in mid 1974 and were featured on a mini tour the Floyd did later that year. Once they had written 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond', Gilmour wanted to have all three making up the next record, but Waters' concept of 'alienation' prevailed and they worked on other songs to complete what would be released in June 1975 as 'Wish You Were Here'. Meaning the first two aforementioned songs were filed away and about a year later, were dusted off and reworked when the Floyd entered Britannia Row studios to work on their next album. The songs were renamed 'Dogs' and 'Sheep' as per Waters' new 'concept' demanded. 'Pigs' and 'Pigs On The Wing' complete the album.

Love the final cut. Many people overlook it. Much better then the wall i think. But my favorite might have to be obscured by clouds
@patricksommer39713 жыл бұрын
I never liked Final Cut, no matter how i tried. Obscured by Clouds is the most overlooked album in history

@@patricksommer3971 for early PF Obscured is my favorite with Meddle as my number 2

The Final Cut is heavy man. It needs a special mood to feel it.

@@postdan28 that was the album that got me into PF. Not Now John specifically

There are early versions of both "Dogs"and "Sheep". The early version of Dogs (called you gotta be crazy) was awesome. I would highly recommend it. I feel like it's just as good as the later album version, though for different reasons

The Animal's demos exist too o KZbin

I agree that the 74 version of You've Got to be Crazy is great but the 75 version is just toothless compared to versions before and after.

I saw Pink Floyd at Empire Pool Wembley in 1974 before the release of wish you were here. The second half of the show was the full dark side of the moon with an encore of echoes. The first half was three songs Shine on you crazy diamond. Raving and Drooling (sheep) You've Got to Be Crazy (Dogs) I was surprised when wish you were here came out that the other two songs were not on it. Then image when I heard the two songs on animals but under different names.

Great follow up to your review video. I was a very early teen in 1977 and thanks to Animals I was never lured over to the punk movement. Animals had the same anger and rawness but there was no doubting the Floyd's skills as musicians and songwriters. I didn't need to be a rocket scientist to see that most punk bands could barely strum a note. So punk was stillborn for me.

Something which was a huge part of the more rough-edged sound of Animals was Roger Waters' rhythm guitar on Pigs (three different ones) and Sheep. If you listen to those parts, they are clearly not David, and that's a big difference from previous albums.

Snowy also did some excellent work on Richard Wrights first solo album, Wet Dreams, which I HIGHLY recommend

This album is my favorite of theirs... even more so than Dark Side or The Wall. People always seem to marvel at Gilmour's playing on Comfortably Numb... but I'm sorry.. it just doesn't compare to his playing on Dogs. The lyrics and melodies on this album... oh man... they were at top form here before their bickering would start to tear them apart. Thank you for doing this... just found it.

Not my favourite Floyd (see above) but, yes, Animals could (and probably should) have made a double-album. I love your suggestion of chickens, horses and cows. Orwell would've liked that.

I hated Animals when I first brought it. However it is now my favourite Floyd album. The lyrics and songs are amazing and Gilmours guitar playing supports the aggressive songs with some his most stinging and razor sharp guitar playing.
