The gunman fired from a nearby rooftop and was quickly taken down by Secret Service agents.
The FBI has now classified it as a potential act of domestic terrorism.
President Joe Biden condemned the shooting and expressed sympathy to his opponent, in a rare break from the animosity between the two men.
Could this mark the beginning of a perilous period for political violence in America?

These speakers all come off as saying there is nothing wrong with our political system and that it is not corrupted. It certainly is. Not in the way the right weaponizes it, but in terms of seriously lacking in actual democracy. Money talks, and the American people really do not have a say in the vast majority of government policy. Capitalists vicariously dominate politics through the two-party system, and the structure of the government more generally.
