How Powerful AMX 10 RC Fighting Vehicles “Have Just Arrived in Ukraine”

Sébastien Lecornu, the French Minister of Defence, announced the arrival of the first batch of French AMX-10 RC wheeled tanks in Ukraine on Thursday, 16 March. Source: Lecornu made this statement to the defence committee of the National Assembly of France, European Pravda reports, citing Le Figaro. Details: According to Lecornu, the AMX-10 RC armoured vehicles have "just arrived in Ukraine", and "some of them have already gone to the front line". The French defence minister added that Paris is already starting to plan the shipment of the second batch of wheeled tanks. "I am preparing a series of resolutions for the president [Macron - ed.], because they [AMX-10 RCs - ed.] are starting to get good feedback from Ukrainian partners," he added. Lecornu said in late February that the first AMX-10 RCs would be delivered to Ukraine at the end of next week.

The Leclerc is not an “amx-56”, nor was the amx-10 RC produced by nexter. The AMX-10 RC was produced and manufactured by the Atelier de Construction d'Issy-les-Moulineaux (AMX) for which the “AMX” letters stands for, as well as the Atelier de construction de Puteaux (APX). Then, the Leclerc tank was produced by GIAT Industries, now known as Nexter, and has nothing to do with AMX. Nor was “AMX-56” ever a name for the Leclerc.

It is important to clearify: This is not a light tank. It is classified as heavy armored car or armored fighting vehicle. The Leopard 1 is a light tank today. Also its cannon was made to crunch T55s and older. More modern T-Tanks with Kontakt5 ERA can’t be penetrated frontal. So its also not a tank destroyer. Its role can vary from reconnaissance to infantry assault gun. But that was about it.

Used in a combined arms or infantry support role, this light tank can certainly pack a punch, the main gun using the Nexter improved AP is more than capable of knocking out RF tanks and apc, mobility is key with these systems and Ukraine has shown how adept it is at out manouvering Russia.

"Heavily armoured" not really, it's a light reconnaissance vehicle Also the Hydropneumatic system isn't like an American lowrider, it doesn't just shoot up or down on it's suspension but rather slowly raise or lower And the gun is unstabilized and mostly used against fortifications and not MBT's (and 300mm of pen would only be enough for old cold war mbt's)

It has a laser rangefinder and a targeting computer. What happens is that you lock on target and then the computer fires at the second the gun is in the proper place, even during movement. Its a very original solution

But the French never bothered with getting one on the RC, even the most modern versions of it lack a stabilizer Next to that, it can't use nato ammo since it's a French made gun and the ammo it uses is mainly for made against fortifications

It's a scout tank heavily armed. Designed to harass ennemy recon elements and to act on the flanks of ennemy more armoured battalions like "Yabusame" cavalry. Fast, stealth, elusive. I Read in the pile it can't run at high speed on field. Okay. Like MBT which can run AND BATTLE at 20mph on fields. But the 10RC is designed to run very fast on roads and trails and fighting from roads and trails. Eventualy crossing fields to join another road or trail. Hey. Guys. Who there served really in an army? The reality is not a map in warthunder.

25 MPH on rough terrain is slower than most MBTs . Still it is a useful vehicle if used correctly but it is very vunerable due to it's armor anorexia. The M18 HELLCAT of WW2 could travel 50 MOH over rough terrain it was a tracked vehicle. Obviously the newer French vehicle is better over all but you would think that they would make the AMX faster than a world war 2 vehicle.

Its basically complementary to the Leclerc which is very quick on rough terrain, but the rough terrain speed doesn't really matter in most cases you actually want to take it slowly to let the support keep up with you, its going to be the road going speed that will help a lot, being able to relocate between the different fronts is going to give a tremendous flexibility boost to the Ukraine forces especially in a general offensive or guerilla ambush context. Light tanks are mostly used as offensive recon and to protect MBT's flanks (AMX10's famously did during desert storm) they also could provide infantry support by destroying fortifications or during skirmishes, their role is to bridge the gap between IFVs and MBTs. If provided in numbers and with the proper tactics AMX10's can absolutely be a force multiplier.

Different doctrine and requirements. You can't blame the US for wanting to use an existing platform so that it makes logistics easier. The French have 240 AMX-10s in service. Meanwhile the US has 4,466 Strykers. You're never going to get the same results when you compare a purpose-built platform (AMX) vs one being adapted from a different role (Stryker). But it's also part of the learning process and why having an alliance that features expertise in so many different facets is important

The AMX 10 RC's would not be effective against a MBT but would be against all Russian APC'S and IFV'S not to mention supporting the infantry. Ukraine needs 200 not a handful of them. To date the US will lend 50 Bradley's and about the same for M1 Abrams. Ukraine needs hundreds to push back Russia.

In combat the tank battle isn't a front game anyways.. Its not the job of the AMX to battle an MBT. Its a AmX of frebch light cavalery regiment. The vehicle was hit by IED and strike the middle right and rear right wheel. But he return to FOB. very slowly ^^
